After learning about the current state of the station hospital, and indeed most hospitals, Jiang Ling only accepted a symbolic 500 points. Before the war, these hospitals typically utilized artificial intelligence or other intelligent diagnostic and treatment services. Doctors played a relatively limited role, and therefore, their experience was limited. Now, many doctors are essentially forced into a new role. Furthermore, most of the current patients are "luminous patients," which are extremely rare to encounter in normal times. These half-baked doctors, caught off guard, have killed many who should have survived. Thus, a war without the smoke of gunpowder has begun. The survivors have learned from their experiences, and the remaining ones finally have a glimmer of hope.
After leaving the hospital, Jiang Ling belatedly realized that these half-baked doctors would eventually die from radiation-induced cancer or complications, and she couldn't help but admire them. She didn't feel like she'd sold the medicine cheaply. Even if the doctor was just acting, she'd been willing to be deceived. Now she regretted not bringing all the medicine with her. If she had, she could have stopped by to see the allergy sufferer's family.
But it wasn't much of a difference, the only difference was that he had to go home more often. On the way home, Jiang Ling's phone suddenly rang twice. After taking it out, he saw the screen flashing yellow.
"Is this an emergency notice from the site security department? Do not go to the fourth residential area?"
After receiving the notice, Jiang Ling sped up her return trip. If problems arose in District 4, Districts 3 and 5 would naturally become evacuation points. With an average population of 30,000 to 40,000 people in each area, the evacuation areas would be overcrowded by more than 50% in a short period of time, and chaos was inevitable. By the time she reached her home, she knew she was late; many people were congregating at the connecting passage.
"What's going on? Why is the passage blocked?"
"Have you seen my little treasure? Have you seen...?"
"I'm hungry, is there a place to eat?"
Jiang Ling squeezed through the bewildered crowd and finally reached her building. She looked up and saw two people from her home, leaning on the balcony, watching them. Some people were watching the scenery, while others became the scenery. Jiang Ling waved vigorously, but the two people seemed not to notice, so she had to use her telepathic ability to send a message in her head: "Look downstairs! I'm back!"
Now, the two finally made some movement, but it was just a little movement. There were too many people gathered here, and they couldn't make them make way for them. Huang Yun was the first to react, pulling out her terminal and motioning to Jiang Ling.
The call was quickly connected: "Why did you come home just now?" The first thing that came out was Huang Yun's scolding. Jiang Ling had heard it for decades and she felt very familiar with it.
"What happened in District 4?"
"It seems someone turned into a mutant, went crazy, and messed up the air circulation. Now the oxygen level in Area 4 has dropped to 11%, and no one can enter anymore."
"When did this happen? Why did I only receive the notice now?"
"The internet says that this happened last night. Everyone in the control room was killed by mutants, and it wasn't discovered until the shift change this morning. They had to get rid of the mutants before they could repair the machine. It is said that it wasn't until the oxygen alarm in the next area went off that they realized there was a big trouble there." Jiang Wenwen once again played her due role, and no one knew where all her information came from.
"Has the mutant been dealt with now?"
"Not yet. This time it seems to be a Class III mutant. They don't know how it became like that!"
Jiang Ling was about to ask more about the information they had gathered when a sudden, booming explosion erupted from the connecting passage. The crowd gathered near the entrance immediately began to disperse without order. In that instant, many people, frightened or slow to react, were pushed down and trampled by the crowd. Jiang Ling quickly sought shelter in a dark corner of the building. In the event of a stampede, one must never panic and follow the crowd.
The crowd completely ignored the volunteers trying to maintain order and quickly moved away in a fan-shaped pattern, leaving behind several people lying on the ground wailing. Some of the braver ones reacted before they ran too far and used the walls of the suites as cover, half-crouching and holding their heads to hide.
The explosion sounded from far away, gradually getting closer, and finally reached the connecting passage. An object slammed head-on into the locked explosion-proof isolation door. "Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
While the explosion-proof isolation doors within the site weren't as sturdy as the nuclear-resistant doors at the entrance, they weren't some scrap of metal that could be easily broken open. These isolation doors were typically thirty centimeters thick and bidirectional, with two doors typically installed per passage. They were thicker than typical bank vault doors, but they also needed to block gas and liquid leakage, so their actual protection was based on their gas isolation capabilities.
Jiang Ling took advantage of the crowd to disperse and hurried back to her home. As soon as she entered the house, she shouted, "Quick, close the windows and curtains!" She saw the two idiots at home still standing by the window, watching as if nothing had happened. She was furious and said, "Why are you two still in a daze?"
"What are you afraid of? Even if it knocks one door open, there's still another one! We can prepare for it later."
Jiang Ling had no remorse for the older generation's laxity and stubbornness, so she went into her room and got the crossbows herself. Armor-piercing and explosive arrows might be helpful, and the crossbows could explain some of the damage. She didn't want to expose her superpowers unless absolutely necessary. Her own power was too powerful, and it was hard to guarantee she wouldn't accidentally injure anyone.
The banging sound lasted for several minutes, and no one knew what was happening on the other side of the door. Some people ran out from their hiding places after the banging sound stopped, cheering as they ran.
However, within Jiang Ling's sensing range, the larger light spot at the end of the passage seemed to have broken through the isolation door, and it was quietly approaching another isolation door.
The cheering crowd seemed to have stirred the emotions of the people around them. Some of them tried to take off their clothes and throw them into the air. Ironically, they completely ignored the people lying on the ground and wailing. Only a few people who had retained their sanity at the beginning quickly ran to the open space and dragged the injured people one by one to the wall.
"Say it again, Mom and Dad!" Jiang Ling saw through her perception that the mutant had come to the isolation door, and there was no longer any line of defense thirty centimeters away that could resist this monster that had killed countless people.
Huang Yun pulled Jiang Wenwen with a smile, and the two of them reluctantly moved away from the window.
"What's that expression on your face? Why are you smiling?"
"Hmm?" Huang Yun touched his face and suddenly realized something was wrong. Jiang Wenwen, standing nearby, was still grinning, a stark contrast to the injured people downstairs.
