The dazzling light shone over, causing Li Wenjia's pupils to sting a little. The drone was still trying to save itself.
Li Wenjia released his right hand.
The bowstring presses against the arrow, converting its elastic potential energy into kinetic energy. During this brief acceleration, the arrow inevitably bends, but the tail fins attached to it stabilize its trajectory.
The bending of the arrow shaft provides new energy, and after a complex transformation, this internal energy causes the arrow to begin to rotate in mid-air.
The trajectory is almost a straight line, and the acceleration of gravity does not have much effect in such a short period of time.
The black scorpion's stinger was incredibly tough, easily breaking through the drone's plastic casing. The streamlined arrow, along with the compressed air surrounding it, poured into the fragile power battery.
All this happened in an instant, and Li Wenjia faithfully recorded it all with his superhuman reaction ability.
“Go, go, go!”
A second later, Changgu, having confirmed the outcome of the battle, immediately led Li Wenjia away from the battlefield. They did not return the same way, but left from another staircase.
After circling a long way, the two of them crouched down in a low snow hut. Listening to the explosions in the distance, Li Wenjia felt unsatisfied.
"How did I fight?"
"You need to practice more. I missed by two centimeters and almost missed the target."
"What should we do next?"
"Wait till they come over. Look over there. The thunder and fire are starting to gather."
There was no need to look out; not far away, the disturbed drones gathered together, their colorful lights flashing in unison, looking like a fireworks display.
"They won't be leaving here any time soon, so our return route will be safer."
"How long can it last?" Li Wenjia expressed doubt.
"Before dawn... they'll arrive, let's go."
The two set off again, but this time they were no longer cautious. They quickly crossed the rubble and reunited with Shattered Star and the others in another neighborhood.
After putting his shoes back on, Li Wenjia finally no longer had to endure the stinging pain of the gravel on the ground. Changgu also had a relieved expression on his face.
"Brother, what did you do before?" On the way, Li Wenjia finally asked this question that had troubled him for several hours.
"Are you talking about me? I used to study synthetic agricultural management at the Agricultural and Forestry University." Changgu laughed self-deprecatingly. "With that major, you're unemployed right after graduation. Back then, everything was fully automated, so there was no such thing as synthetic farming."
"But he really likes that major," Broken Star added.
“Yes, I was originally planning to pursue a PhD. But when it came time for the interview, my advisor informed us that he was quitting.”
"Why?"
"He was fired, meaning he lost his job. He was only 50 at the time, and I don't know if he's still alive now. I haven't been in touch with him for years."
"So exaggerated? What happened next? Did you choose to study a new major?"
"Yes. I later studied automated agriculture and took a lot of drone maintenance certifications... There was no way I could finish learning all that stuff. By the time I finished, I was already in my 40s." Changgu wiped away a tear of bitterness. "Then the war broke out. Synthesis and automation are gone. Now it's pure manual operation."
"This..." Li Wenjia held his forehead and sighed.
That was certainly the case before the war. Artificial intelligence permeated every aspect of life, and the vast majority of people couldn't get a proper job. If they wanted to work, it might take decades of hard study before they could even get one. That society didn't require hard work; it only required genius, true genius.
Of course, if that society were to exist today, it would almost be called a utopia. When the majority of citizens were no longer exploited, they instead unleashed unimaginable productivity. Things were truly changing rapidly back then, and those with nothing to do and enough to eat always yearned for something big.
As a result, those technologies that had once been dormant in history were discovered by people, and then began to shine again in unexpected places.
In other words, the world at that time needed creativity, and Changgu was actually trapped in a misunderstanding. Perhaps, when he figured this out, he would live a little easier, just like he is now.
"By the way, is this your first time drawing a bow?" Changgu recalled the scene just now.
Li Wenjia nodded. He had only played with a crossbow before.
"Oh, is that so? Then let me correct you. You're a great player. You're a real fucking genius."
Shattered Star walked forward and patted Li Wenjia on the back.
The group chatted cheerfully, and before they knew it, they had passed through the ruins of the city and arrived at the tunnel entrance again. Their path formed an arc, and to the left of this arc was the bomb crater filled with river water.
In other words, they passed through a corner of the city along the edge of a nuclear bomb crater.
"You can cross the river from here. This tunnel leads directly to the mountain on the other side. You can walk faster; it's safe here," Changgu explained. He took out the half-burned torch, relit it, and continued on his way.
The people were moving quite fast in the tunnel. When the torches finally burned out, they saw the exit of the tunnel.
This is a place halfway up a mountain. A nearby nuclear warhead has collapsed the hillside, revealing a lot of buried treasures.
Long Bone put away the torch stem and pointed to their north. "Look at those brown plants over there," he said. "They're called oil cotton. Their fruits can be used to extract oil, and the residue, which is a bit like cotton, can be woven into cloth. We make our torches out of them."
