Chapter 54 For Humanity

“For people” can be translated as “for humanity,” but the latter word also means “people.”

When the people underground began to get used to this kind of life of counting the number of seismic waves from nearby nuclear explosions every day, the situation changed again. In Huang Yun's memory, it should have been midnight, when everyone was asleep, when the alarm sounded.

"Hurry, hurry, hurry! Wake up! Wake up!" A group of usually kind managers wearing reflective vests rushed to each tent and shouted.

"Everyone! Follow the instructions and take shelter downstairs! Hurry, we don't have much time!" A middle-aged man climbed onto a pile of wooden boxes holding a loudspeaker and yelled at the people who were rubbing their sleepy eyes. He also pointed to a passage with his other hand.

At this time, Jiang Ling was still playing hide-and-seek in the maintenance passage. When he heard the mental message coming from his mind, he immediately searched his memory for the shortest route back.

. . . . . .

On the surface, a group of soldiers and officers wearing gas masks gathered around a laser anti-aircraft vehicle, making final preparations for battle. They had just refused the transfer order and were no longer part of the battle sequence. In other words, they were now deserters.

But they were eventually recorded as "missing".

"Listen carefully! We volunteered to stay here to protect the sky! We won't have any support!" A man who looked like an officer reminded his comrades again. Most of those who stayed behind were locals. It was more like fighting for their families than fighting for the people.

"Go make the announcement. At least leave your name and number! Signalman!"

"We are the XXXth Squadron of the XXth Army of the XXth District of the Z Country People's Army Strategic Anti-Missile Force. We are willing to live and die with the people of Modu. We will do our utmost to buy time for your evacuation!"

Stories like this are happening all over the country, they are both tragic and moving.

. . . . . .

Jiang Ling and his family met in a corridor, two minutes after the alarm sounded. The people around them were being led by brave warriors who had volunteered to be guides, moving quickly, quietly, and in an orderly manner.

"What should we do?" The adoptive parents looked at her with sharp eyes in the dim passage.

"I don't want to escape anymore!" Jiang Ling had figured it out on the way. Li Wenjia said that this site could only withstand ordinary warheads at best. Instead of praying that he would be the lucky one down there, he might as well go up and give it a try.

"Hey, you're here!" A bald man emerged from the crowd. It was Li Wenjia. He had slipped out to the bathroom in the middle of the night, so he couldn't be found for a while.

"What do you mean? Do you want to go up and fuck him?"

"We're going now, but we need to take a few minutes to prepare. We're not going to die, we need to consider the worst-case scenario!"

"It doesn't matter, we still have at least ten minutes once the alarm sounds!"

Jiang Ling spent a few seconds pondering a solution, but quickly settled on one. She recalled the method she'd used to expand the diameter of the patio a few days ago: "That's okay, we'll just dig a hole."

"Are you crazy? You're going to dig a hole there. What will happen to these people if we stay here?"

"Just come with me. You've been avoiding me these past few days. You definitely don't know that I know everything about this place."

It took a minute for a few people to separate from the crowd and return to their own tents.

"What do you want to decorate?" Jiang Wenwen asked.

"Clothes, plastic bags, raincoats, canned food, passes, terminals, masks and filter canisters! Don't bring too many, just enough!" Li Wenjia said a lot in a row as if he was reading out the menu, but his hands never stopped moving.

"Don't you want a food processor anymore?"

"Why are you still thinking about that? I wrapped it up a long time ago and it's under the bed. If this place hasn't been bombed, you can just come back and look for it."

It only took them two minutes to pack up two large backpacks. "Here, wrap them up on the road!" Jiang Ling found a roll of slightly used aluminum foil tape from the quilt.

Five minutes left.

They ran wildly after Jiang Ling all the way. Jiang Wenwen's short legs were carried on Li Wenjia's shoulders. As she was swaying like this, her back was wrapped like a mummy.

They turned one corner after another, but never climbed up. They kept walking until they came to a dead end.

"Hey, did you go the wrong way? There's nothing here!"

"Who said there is no? Don't always use your eyes to see, you will lose a lot of information." With a "bang", Jiang Ling hit the wall in front of him with his fist.

"Don't look at me like that! It's only a twenty-centimeter-thick wall!"

They passed through the large hole in the wall, and their view immediately widened. Li Wenjia exclaimed, "This is actually an underground nuclear facility! Are you thinking?"

Jiang Ling pointed upwards and began to take off her shoes. "Hold on to me, and once you get there, transform into beasts. Then, disperse within two minutes, the farther away the better. While moving, find as sturdy a shelter as possible and as open an area as possible. Don't forget to bring your bags, one per person. The passes are separate."

Jiang Ling ignored the soldiers standing in the distance watching from the facility and transformed into a "succubus" in the darkness. She put her four hands on her waist, forming four tripods for the people around her to hold on to.

After several people patted their waists, she used her mind to communicate in their minds, saying, "Go!" At the same time, a bright white light emanated from her body, and a white spherical stand reappeared. Then, with a thought, her hooves levitated from the ground and began to accelerate upwards.
