As the footsteps of Qin Le and the others faded away outside the isolation gate, the people in the shelter could finally relax a little. Honestly, being in the same room with a leader is always stressful, especially when your stance and ideas differ from theirs.
They had always respected Qin Le. His two-and-a-half-page resume would have been a strong anchor wherever he looked. But Wang Renxing had shattered his authority. His inflammatory words had devalued Qin Le's image in their minds to the point of being worthless.
People are really strange. Wang Renxing's few words made these people feel proud. They even naively thought, "I can do it too." They began to imagine themselves becoming a leader like Qin Le, who was admired by everyone, so much so that they gradually became jealous of Qin Le.
Of course, this mentality itself is quite normal. After all, "a soldier who doesn't want to be a general is not a good soldier." According to Qin Le, it's free competition anyway. If you're good enough, "I" can trade places with you. And this guy probably prefers to be a small shrimp. Being a mid-level cadre is really exhausting.
Unfortunately, these people don't appreciate it. Things that are too easy to get will only make people think they are cheap. And most of the time, they will think you are hiding something more important and are unwilling to share it.
However, these people hid their little thoughts very well. They are also veterans in their forties and fifties, and they would not show their thoughts on their faces like Xiao Su and Xiao Li.
Several people stared at each other in the darkness, no one wanting to be the first to lose their composure. In the darkness, none of them could have anticipated that the brief moment of relief would fade, and they were about to face endless pressure and despair.
As time passed, the air in the shelter gradually became turbid. Several people felt stuffy in their chests, and they stood up at the same time, trying to breathe fresh air from a higher altitude.
After a while...
"Xiao Su, Xiao Su!" Lao Yu was the first to break the silence. He suddenly stood up and pulled Xiao Su over from beside Master Zhou. At the same time, he pressed an oxygen cylinder with a breathing mask on his face.
In a relatively quiet space, the higher density of carbon dioxide will settle in the lower part. So Xiao Su, lying on the ground, became the first unlucky person. He had been lying on the ground for almost three minutes without moving.
Of course, Old Yu wasn't being naive; he was simply vying for support. Of the four people at the shelter, he was the weakest. His apprentice, Xiao Li, had already run off with Qin Le, while Old Wu and Xiao Su were both connected to Master Zhou. Perhaps saving his life would earn him a fervent believer.
Master Zhou was still slowly adjusting his breathing, having no time to react. Although his body didn't move, a thousand thoughts raced through his mind. He quickly realized that the first power grab had already occurred while he was still gathering strength, and now there was no way to counter it. He could only watch helplessly as a rescue operation unfolded.
As expected, the good-natured Master Wu came over, and the two of them worked together to drag Xiao Su onto a pile of boxes.
Old Zhou didn't intervene, simply watching the two perform with indifference. He didn't feel he was in any danger. Old Wu was a relative, and Little Su was the child of an old friend. He could lose countless times, but Master Yu had to keep winning.
Soon, little Su woke up slowly, and when he opened his eyes, he was greeted by a blinding flashlight.
"Woo woo~"
He tried to block the light with his hands, but he found himself pinned down by someone and unable to move. He could only close his eyes tightly and struggle.
Suddenly, he felt his body relax, followed by a feeling of weightlessness. When he opened his eyes again, the lights were gone, and he could see nothing. Only when his darkvision slowly returned did he realize he had been carried to a higher place. A hand removed the mask from his face, and then Master Wu's voice reached him.
"Xiao Su, you finally woke up. We saved you!"
Xiao Su thought he was rescued. He took a deep breath and asked, "Where is Master Zhou? And has Wang Renxing been found?"
Old Zhou was delighted to hear this, and then replied in a kind tone, "I'm fine. But Wang Renxing hasn't been found yet."
"Enough of the small talk, we need to count the supplies first. We really can't stay here for long." Old Yu interrupted at the right time.
Old Wu let go of Xiao Su after hearing this, and then went to check the shelves with a flashlight. Xiao Su was still a little dazed, he had just been through a near-death experience and hadn't figured out the current situation.
"Where are we?" Xiao Su asked timidly.
Old Zhou remained silent. He absolutely could not speak such a devastating truth. Fortunately, Old Yu was willing to be the first to speak out: "You have carbon dioxide poisoning. Are you feeling dizzy? We are still here. We haven't gone anywhere!"
Xiao Su uttered an "Oh!" and then his emotions broke down. He burst into tears, crying, "It was Wang Renxing! Wang Renxing deceived us! I saw it, I saw it! He and Zhang Zongguan are in cahoots!"
Lao Yu hurried to comfort Xiao Su, but he did not have the majesty and calmness of Qin Le. He could only keep repeating words like "Don't panic", "Don't cry", "Don't be anxious", etc. These perfunctory words could not calm Xiao Su down at all.
"Let me do it! You're just wasting his air!" Master Zhou squeezed Lao Yu's seat and then grabbed Xiao Su's neck. "Shut up! If you want revenge on him, you have to survive first! Otherwise, he will laugh at you for the rest of his life!"
