Chapter 17: Under the Veil

"Since it's not a wormhole, where does it store everything? It can't be like compressed cookies, squeezing all the matter into a smaller state, right?"

"I don't know. I said, we know nothing about its principles. Even if it's not a creation of God, it's at least the product of a super civilization. To us, they are no different from God."

The young man made no secret of his admiration, but there was no awe in his words. He released the ring and let it stay in the air, spinning slowly.

"Its basic physical properties remain unchanged whether empty or fully loaded. Its mass is always 0.618 kg and its diameter is always 24 cm. Its density is comparable to that of water. We haven't figured out what it's made of, but its surface appears to contain carbon..."

"Organic matter, or plastic," Huang Jiyuan continued. "We've tested everything except disassembling it. In short, we can't replicate it until we see its internal structure."

"Okay, what about the others?" Fan Yunfei nodded and motioned the young man to continue.

The young man took the cylinder from another box, twisted it, and then plugged it into a port in the box. Suddenly, a desk lamp appeared on the table, its soft, eye-protecting light tinting the artificial flowers in the middle of the table a dark purple.

"As you can see, it's a rechargeable battery. We charged it with over a thousand kilowatt-hours of electricity to fully charge it. Honestly, given its size and mass, I really can't imagine what material it's made of."

"So, you can't replicate this?" Fan Yunfei understood his implication.

"Yes, and now it's equivalent to a ton of TNT. We have to at least find a way to use up the energy in it before we can consider the next step of research..."

Noticing the silence in the meeting room, the young man took something out of the third box. He connected it to the tablet in the box with a data cable and then operated on it for a few seconds.

"We currently only know that this thing is some kind of information storage device, but we haven't tested its actual storage capacity. It might never be full, at least not even if we put all our historical data in it. Also, perhaps our current computer technology is too backward, and each read takes a very long time."

In other words, these are three black boxes.

As for the remaining injections, they had seen them so many times that no one mentioned them for a while.

"Matter, energy, data, or information. What did you call it just now?" Qin Huang asked, muttering to himself.

"Storage device?"

"Yes, storage devices, they are all storage devices! But why did the 'End of the Universe' give you storage devices? No, that's not right. What else did it give you?"

"What's left is the box, the gun you've seen, and the aqueous solution." Jiang Ling summarized his experience in detail.

"What's the order?"

"Box, reservoir, gun, solution."

"Drugs, storage devices, weapons, liquids. What does it mean?" Qin Huang seemed to be stuck in a strange circle. His work experience easily made him think of strange things.

Medicine, life-saving stuff.

Storage, something to store things, currently, it can be anything.

Weapons, things that kill people, or things that protect oneself, or perhaps the term should be changed to tools.

Liquid, and it is an aqueous solution. The focus should be on water, not the solution. Water is the origin of life.

The order of the answers shouldn't matter. After a simple combination of permutations, an answer emerged in Qin Huang's mind. The answer was so shocking that he didn't dare to make it public.

"Have you thought of anything?" Ning Weihe saw the uneasiness of the person in front of him.

"No, nothing."

Qin Huang carefully glanced around, confirming no one else was peeking before he calmed his trembling arms. He'd scratched his palm, bleeding slightly. The stinging pain brought him out of his wild thoughts, but the answer was already deeply etched in his mind.

Fan Yunfei looked at him suspiciously, but did not expose his shortcomings on the spot.

The young man still had some ability to read people's expressions and changed the subject, saying, "We tried to analyze the last few potions and achieved some results."

He took two out of the box and showed them to everyone.

"We combined some of the Awakened's genetic engineering research to develop a new generation of gene stabilizers, which is the one in my left hand."

The potion was sealed in a glass test tube, and the green transparent liquid also turned black and purple under the orange desk lamp.

"The mortality rate of the new stabilizer has been greatly reduced, with only a slight increase in cost. This one is specially for my master."

"Cost? Specialized? Hey, it's not going to be independent development for each person, right?" Jiang Ling grasped the key point.

"It's not really separate! It's just that each vaccine requires a genetic sample from one person, so the cost is slightly higher. We can vaccinate people as soon as they are born, which will significantly reduce expenses."

"So it still can't be inherited?" Qin Huang found a new question from his mouth.

"How can it be hereditary? We've never tampered with human genes! At least not until now!"

"Ahem, you don't have to take the genetic mutations of the awakened ones too seriously. Their gene pool is too small. It will take at least a hundred generations for them to become prevalent in the human gene pool. We still have a lot of time." Huang Jiyuan coughed and changed the subject.
