Chapter 87: The Quiet Earth-Moon Lagrange Point L2 (Forty)

More than ten minutes later, or perhaps even longer, the two drove a red and black police smart car out of the back door of the police station and arrived at the intersection of Haiwen Road and Qianjin Road. Further ahead were Xianren Street and Pedestrian Street.

The street scene here is somewhat like the urban-rural fringe in ancient times, with complexity and chaos organically unified. Idle scum mingles with their colleagues in the police station, garbage is everywhere, and sanitation workers are always beaten by bad youths.

Gary rested one hand on the steering wheel, the other clutching an unlit cigarette. "Brothers from the Security Bureau, are you concerned? I tried to intervene at first, but in the end, it's the same old story. One batch is taken down, and a new batch comes the next day. They're endless, like a constantly updating computer program, and the police station's basement only has so much space! So don't think you can change the world. You're not a fairy tale hero, and I'm not a hero's henchman." He gestured with his eyes, the opened cigarette box resting in the storage slot under the center console.

"Thanks, brother. I still want to live a few more years." 11B declined this unhealthy addiction and continued to stare blankly at the world outside the car window. When the traffic light countdown ended and the smart car accelerated again, he said, "Aren't you curious about my mission? You don't look so calm at your age."

"You were there, too. The sheriff's orders were to fully cooperate with you, so I have no desire to know your mission. I'll do whatever you say." Gary held the cigarette to his ear and opened the window a little to let in the outside air. "Besides, these days, everyone has a bizarre past. Knowing too much about others isn't a good idea, is it?"

"In that case, then... turn left!" he suddenly shouted.

Gary immediately swerved the steering wheel, and the Smartcar slid a short distance down the road and into a barely passable alley.

"Prepare to turn right, five, four..."

The scenery passed by quickly, and Gary could only see the walls on both sides extending forward.

"Three, two, one, do it!"

The body reacted faster than the brain. Just when Gary thought he was going to hit the wall, a passable space suddenly appeared on the right. The smart car scraped against the corner of the wall at lightning speed and then adjusted its direction.

"Turn right at the exit and pull over immediately."

"Got it, I'm watching!" Gary did as he was told.

The exit is the pedestrian street. With the huge traffic volume all year round, the red and black police car can easily blend in and quickly occupy a newly vacant parking space.

Everything happened as it should.

Gary turned off the engine and immediately asked, "What the hell is going on?"

"Hush, keep your head down!" 11B nervously lowered her body, glancing around. "Are you aware of the recent publicized execution of pirates?"

Gary nodded.

"The bigwigs up there have caused a huge hole. Previously, captured pirates were executed in secret, but this time, somehow the news leaked, and several major cities have been retaliated against."

"What about the Marineris Valley?"

"Not yet, but the situation isn't optimistic." 11B said with a worried look on his face. "They're looking for someone. Not just high-ranking officials, but also many foreign forces and underground organizations."

"What does this have to do with us? That person can't be one of you or me, right?" Gary took out a periscope from under the seat and handed it to 11B.

"Indeed," 11B nodded. "But many of them have neither clues nor abilities, so they can only follow us like locusts."

"When did you notice it?"

"From the moment I stepped out of the Security Bureau door! Damn, they are really crazy..."
