Chapter 15 Starry Sky Cleaner (15)

In fact, no matter how many spacewalks you've taken, the vastness and tranquility of the universe will always infect you. Jiang Ling folded her arms, leaning back in her seat like a sleeping baby, gazing up at the almost unchanging starry sky through the crash bar. Lin Shuang's subroutine took over the flight controls of Unit 2, giving her the illusion of a free-wheeling stroll through the open air. A feeling of tranquility, peace, gentleness, and a touch of unease briefly permeated her mind. She could think of nothing, could do nothing, in this environment. Unlike the flawed and utterly flawed lives imagined by the new generation of intellectuals huddled on the ground, in the truest sense of the word, any thought you have in the universe pales in comparison to the boundless galaxy.

The three spray canisters at the tail of Unit 2 shut down 72 seconds after takeoff, leaving behind a trail several kilometers long and allowing the "boat" to reach speeds high enough to escape Earth's gravity. Unit 2 is now passing through Earth's rings. The artificial reflective material, weathered by cosmic weathering, has long since shattered into extremely fine particles, so fine that they require a microscope to see. Therefore, they pose no threat to most spacecraft. When daring astronauts attempt to pass through this thin layer of powder, they often describe themselves as having experienced a baptism of fire.

Unit 2 left a hole of about 4 square meters in the Earth's ring. Part of the powder driven by inertia will fill back to its original place as the Earth rotates, while the other part will never return.

After crossing the ring, Jiang Ling controlled Unit 2 to change its flight attitude. She used the viewfinder on the top of her exoskeleton to focus on the breach she had created. The large hole resembled a bullet piercing a steel plate, and she even observed two slowly spreading ripples. Of course, this couldn't be a shock wave in the medium. The arrangement of reflective material was likely even sparser than loose sand, so this could only be a marvel of classical physics. Abstract artists living in space are often impoverished, because the universe itself is sufficiently abstract that even the most precise descriptions of art are likely to be misinterpreted.

Jiang Ling edited the video she'd filmed and posted it to the Inner Circle internet, where it immediately attracted a significant number of viewers. Thanks to the Deep Space Network, even those far away in the Kuiper Belt can still communicate with their families via relatively high-quality signals. However, due to the speed of light, the transmission rate of all information ultimately has a limit. While those living on Earth don't perceive this delay, the citizens of the community have long been accustomed to it.

About half an hour later, the daughter's communication request jumped through several relay satellites and entered Jiang Ling's exoskeleton.

After the call was connected, Yu Yan's clear voice immediately reached her ears: "Mom, why did you sneak out to play alone again?"

"Be good, Yanyan. Mom's out working!" Jiang Ling answered patiently. "Are your uncle and aunt around?"

"Uncle Yang, my mother is looking for you..." The daughter's voice soon came from the other end of the headset, but this time it didn't seem to be speaking into the microphone. Then, a deep bass voice came over, "Good afternoon, Yu Yan's mother. I'm Yang Qiming's father. Your daughter is doing well, but...but the gift you asked her to give is too expensive. I'm sorry, our family can't accept it."
