Jiang Ling soaked in the bathtub, letting her waist-length hair float on the water. The water in the bathtub did not contain any colored fragrances, so under the cool lighting, it showed a natural and beautiful light blue color, which set off her slightly pale skin.
“Boom boom boom!”
There were rhythmic knocks on the bathroom door that was not closed tightly. Yu Nuanxin walked in with Jiang Ling's tacit consent and placed a stack of dry towels that were radiating heat on the washstand.
"Xiao Yu—" Jiang Ling called out to her calmly, and she responded in the same tone. "Xiao Yu, let's talk?" she said.
"No time! I'm still busy writing my thesis, and there's only one month left this year."
"Stop! I've already asked, and the annual graduation date for the Citadel is May 18th, which is over four months from now. Don't use your part-time job as an excuse! I'll give you a bad review, or else!"
"Oh! No, no, you are really my ancestor! You don't want this!"
Yu Nuanxin stopped the action of opening the door and escaping, and pressed her back against the door panel.
The two looked at each other.
"Since you're both keeping silent about the history of five thousand years ago, I won't force you." Jiang Ling displayed her proud generosity. "I want to ask about something else—don't worry, it won't be a bad thing for you." Her gaze penetrated the mist in the room and stared into Yu Nuanxin's eyes. "Do you know about the shrine?"
"I know." Yu Nuanxin nodded.
"Hmm? And then? Just 'know'?"
"You know a lot, what's wrong?"
"Okay." Jiang Ling changed the question, "What do you think of the shrine?"
“It has certain positive significance.”
"Giving you a bad review?"
"Ah! A shrine... a shrine, I got it. There's someone called Shenzi in the shrine! Yes, Shenzi, I know Shenzi, the 400-year-old washboard Tonglao. Rumor has it online that she's the founder of the shrine, and she has official endorsement. Most of the people in the shrine are awakened, but it's also open to ordinary people. Aside from May 20th and 21st of each year, when there are strict rules and regulations, the rest of the time it's very secular."
"Don't be so hasty," Jiang Ling said. "You just found this online, didn't you?"
"No, absolutely not! I worked part-time at your school and even saw the baptism ceremony for the newlyweds held there. It's all recorded. You can look at the resume I submitted on the part-time job website."
"So what do you think of it? Is there any point in joining?" Jiang Ling didn't really want to hear Yu Nuanxin's recommendation.
"That's not necessary," Yu Nuanxin said. "You have to pay a registration fee to join that shrine. You can join other clubs at school. Smaller ones are more relaxed and don't have so many complicated things to do."
"Oh!" Jiang Ling finally understood her evaluation criteria - the key point was that there should be no trivial matters that would interfere with her earning contribution points.
"I'm planning to join a club and find something to do so I can have somewhere to go after school, or even live on campus. What's up with that? Any recommendations?"
"Really? Is what you said authentic?" Yu Nuanxin suddenly became excited.
"Really, really! Although I don't know why you want to be a working queen, I can still give my lovely descendant a little preferential treatment." Jiang Ling answered patiently.
"Wow, you're so kind, Grandpa!" Yu Nuanxin rushed over, hugged Jiang Ling's shoulders eagerly, and whispered in her ear, "Let me tell you, there are four great clubs in Lihua Garden. They have little work, a good environment, and plenty of funding for activities."
"Oh, tell me about it?"
"The first one is definitely the Ancient Costume Research Society. It's on the second floor of the school's Art Building. There are so many handsome men and beautiful women there, and so many beautiful dresses. Although there is a slight entry threshold, with your looks, you can probably join without taking the test."
Jiang Ling guessed that it was a rather unreliable society, so she remained silent with a blank expression.
Yu Nuanxin introduced it for a while, but then realized she wasn't interested, so she quickly changed direction. "Then there's the Tea Club, across from the cafeteria. Many members set up tea stalls in the afternoons, and people who like the hustle and bustle go there. It's a great place to get news and gossip. The requirements for joining there are a bit higher than the Clothing Club; you need to have some knowledge of tea art."
"Anything else?"
Jiang Ling likes to keep a low profile and places that are too lively will make her depressed.
"There's also a martial arts club, located inside the gymnasium, a little away from the teaching building. There are quite a few muscular men there, and many female students are attracted to them, so the competition is quite fierce. Do you want to join? Many of them are younger than me..."
The scene imagined in Jiang Ling's mind was completely different from Yu Nuanxin's. She thought about using professional killing skills, battlefield fighting techniques and other techniques to beat these innocent "kids", beating them to the ground and leaving their teeth and flesh and internal organs smeared on the walls, and she inexplicably felt a strong resistance in her heart.
So she shook her head to refuse.
"Well... let me think... you could also check out the online gaming club. As for the location, it's usually in the vacant club activities section. It depends on the situation. Basically, they play whatever's popular—at least that's how I see it. Their entry requirements aren't high, just an online gaming access pod. If the price hadn't increased this year, it would be around 20 contribution points. Well, that's still a lot for a student. I only earn two points for writing a sample article for someone else."
"Is there anything about psychic powers?" Jiang Ling planned to make use of her strengths.
"How is that possible? That's a course only allowed in military academies! Ordinary schools forbid students from using psychic abilities."
Jiang Ling nodded. She knew that Yu Nuanxin didn’t know much about the real situation of that school.
