While Jiang Ling was talking to the man whose name she only knew, work in the training ground had already begun to warm up.
Four 60mm thick superconducting cables were dragged into place by two spider-like engineering robots. Two of the cables were the actual transmission lines, one was the neutral line, and the third was connected to the main support structure of the site.
The main material of this cable is very special. When it is not powered on, it is very soft and similar to colloid. People can store it in barrels for easy transportation. When it is powered on, it will harden quickly and become brittle and fragile, so some tough wrapping materials are needed.
Although superconducting materials do not have high requirements for the working environment, due to their flammability, they are stored separately from the cable wrapping.
There is now a machine that is injecting superconducting material into a filling port of the cable.
The bubbles in the cable will affect the actual conductivity of the cable, so in order to control the density of the bubbles, the machine will first vacuum the inside of the cable.
The noise from the vacuum motor is so loud that it exceeds the maximum decibel level a human can produce. The workers here can only communicate with each other using a full-face helmet.
They connected all four cables to the lower structure of the laser weapon, with the assistance of drones.
The laser weapon has a long axis of 3.2 meters, and a width and height of 0.44 meters. It looks quite large, but strictly speaking, it is not complete.
It was actually just part of a strategic laser. Behind it was a fourth-level constraint, projecting the energy of seven other similar third-level constraint lasers onto the final beam crystal. At that level, its energy was sufficient to drive the atomic nuclei in the beam crystal to undergo fusion reactions. Therefore, those crystals were actually consumables and had to be replaced after each launch.
Of course, there is no such crystal in the site for the time being, so they can only disassemble the original strategic laser and use this 12.5% power to simulate the ferocity of the killer satellite.
Theoretically, each killer satellite is equipped with four strategic lasers; each strategic laser has a power of approximately 40 million watts.
These were all public data from before the war, and it would be difficult for them to find out the true situation. After all, those killer satellites that were usually hidden in elliptical orbits were the trump cards of various countries and it was impossible to make them fully public.
As a world leader, Country Z's laser weapon development is naturally two generations ahead of other countries. Therefore, the energy level of this laser has reached the order of 10 million watts, which is more than enough for testing.
The workers quickly completed their tasks and evacuated the site in batches according to instructions, leaving behind only a few drones used for debugging and handling. Control of these robots had been transferred to the control room here. Artificial intelligence is everywhere, but it doesn't often come to our doorsteps.
Jiang Ling was taken behind a wall, her makeshift shelter being the closest to the laser. Of course, the wall couldn't block the laser's direct hit; the real shield was probably Jiang Ling herself.
This was her own request. She was currently using her psychic powers to investigate the structure of the laser. Being closer would be somewhat more convenient.
Two fearless researchers were also present, extending a periscope from the bunker. Their naked eyes and video cameras faithfully recorded the entire experiment.
"The final fuse has been closed, energy transmission countdown. Five, four, three, two, one..."
The indicator lights on the cables lit up in batches, starting from the distant channel and extending all the way to the laser. Everyone held their breath, as if the currents would be like water in a pipe, causing a severe water hammer effect at the bend of the pipe.
Of course, nothing happened.
Room-temperature superconducting wires are the highways for electrons. They do not block the flow of electric current at all. Only a few connection points of the cables produce some temperature differences, but they are basically within a controllable range.
"The capacitor continues to increase its voltage, reaching 20% of its rated voltage and steadily increasing..."
The laser originally lacked a base, and the appearance Jiang Ling saw now was the result of a bunch of amateur engineers' extensive tinkering—in short, it had a strong whiff of "I wondered." As for the original technicians who developed them, they had already turned to gas along with the countless stars on Earth's surface three years ago.
The base contained numerous capacitor batteries, derived from the same technology as the electric vehicles at the station, but with a modified microscopic stacking structure. These batteries were now much more aggressive than their predecessors, which charged quickly but discharged slowly.
"It'll be released once it reaches 50%. They haven't tested it yet, so let's be a little more cautious this time to avoid burning out the power supply!"
"Changing...Estimated launch in twenty seconds."
"Abnormal temperature rise observed inside the capacitor, anomaly code 107, the temperature is rising very rapidly!"
"How much energy is it charged now?"
"40%, do we need to pause?"
"Fire directly, aim at the upper left area of the protective wall, don't hit the gap!"
At a certain moment, Jiang Ling "saw" the capacitor suddenly discharge, the current flowing through a number of closely packed square semiconductor converters. These photoelectric converters emitted a large amount of light, forming an array of thick but dim beams. Each of these beams was quite weak individually, but after being focused twice, they began to heat the air inside the laser into a plasma state.
This laser was not originally designed for terrestrial environments. If it were in a normal working environment, it should not dissipate any heat.
