In the following days, Jiang Ling kept helping Lao Ning, performing the "brain closure technique" on more than fifty crew members and a dozen unlucky people outside the crew.
The so-called "Occlumency" is actually an encryption technique employed by the Countermeasures Bureau. It's not technically difficult, but simply requires a high level of proficiency in psychic abilities. Specifically, it involves constructing a new information storage and access method within the recipient's brain, somewhat like a computer network protocol. However, at the outset of the Occlumency process, neither the practitioner nor the recipient possesses the specific protocol key.
The key is like Schrödinger's cat; after the brain adapts to the change over a few days, it will automatically implement the encryption, and usually the recipient himself will not even notice the change.
The human body is amazing, isn’t it?
Simply put, they are adding a set of learning algorithms to other people's brains that can only figure out the starting and ending states.
To be honest, it is really difficult to crack the art of occlusion. In addition, the human brain's operating method is very similar to that of a quantum computer. Without more powerful computing power, ordinary psychics will probably be unable to grasp the memories of these "occluded people".
Of course, any technology has flaws.
After learning the underlying logic of Occlumency, Jiang Ling attempted to crack the system on the first few crew members who had passed their adaptation period. The first brute force crack took three hours, but after becoming familiar with their thinking patterns, the cracking speed increased by 60-70%, eventually stabilizing at around 40 minutes.
Lao Ning said it was normal to crack it.
After all, a certain old man once said that you need magic to defeat magic.
Compared to the head-on confrontation of psychic abilities, occlumency is just a passive and clever way of confrontation.
But it was indeed useful—it was used once within half a day after everyone completed the closure surgery. It gave ordinary people basic reaction time, so at least they didn't get wiped out in an instant.
Lao Ning also tracked the second echo, but this time it came from the sea surface. Fortunately, neither echo caused any real damage, and within two days, 509 successfully completed the first half of the voyage.
F3 had a few more people on board, and the three political commissars held their first meeting in history. The captain, along with two staff officers, brought down a large roll of seabed topography.
"We took several underwater highways on the way, so we arrived seven hours early. If everything goes well, you will have 79 hours to locate the black box," said Captain Yu.
"Is it still sending signals? Why can't it be located directly?" Jiang Ling asked.
"We have no satellites left, and we can't accurately locate ourselves with the crappy stuff in the station. And we've been using inertial navigation all the way. If you're not afraid of getting lost, you can use submarines to find us... The nearby terrain is all here, and they're all pre-war archival materials. It's said that many people sacrificed their lives for these drawings." He replied.
Spreading out the maps, Lao Ning dug out a small camera from somewhere and filmed the topographic maps. He then imported the image data into a terminal and constructed a three-dimensional digital map.
The whole process took no more than ten minutes, which made Lao Yu a little jealous.
Ning Weihe handed the data disk to Political Commissar Xiao, whispered a few words to him, and then stopped Wu Ying who wanted to put on the exoskeleton.
"What? You're not going?" Old Wu asked in confusion.
"There are still so many people on the boat!" Ning Weihe turned to look at Jiang Ling, "We have to split up. You and Xiao Changsheng are in one group. Be careful and protect his head."
"Got it! Help me close the watertight door." Jiang Ling responded helplessly, then randomly picked a cabin and crawled inside.
She climbed into the exoskeleton with ease, and after the system self-check was complete, Jiang Ling closed the opening at the back. Listening to the voice prompt indicating that the shell had been locked, she reorganized her thoughts.
The purpose of this trip was to recover the missile debris that had fallen here two months earlier. With any luck, they could complete their mission within a few days. Yes, that was their mission, not hers. Her goal should be to protect their lives and confidential intelligence without hindering their mission—just like last time, a complete tool.
She tapped the inner wall of the exoskeleton with her nails, and a reliable metallic sound came from it.
After a while, Political Commissar Xiao's communication request was sent to Jiang Ling's exoskeleton, and she readily clicked to confirm.
"Voice recording is on."
"Yuanyu 2: This is Yuanyu 3. How's the communication quality? Over."
"Yuanyu 2 received the message, the communication quality is good. Over." Jiang Ling replied immediately.
"Yuanyu 3, receiving this. Keep the signal open, awaiting the nacelle signal. Over."
Two minutes later, a warning bell rang inside the cabin, and the circular watertight door beneath the exoskeleton was remotely unlocked. Jiang Ling manipulated the robotic arm at her waist to unlock the door's secondary manual latch. She then turned the circular handle in the center of the door three and a half turns counterclockwise. Gravity pulled the door downward, causing it to automatically swing downward.
She retracted the robotic arm, controlled the small arms and legs on the exoskeleton, stood up from the shelf, and slowly climbed onto the titanium ladder under the watertight door.
The lower part of the cabin was very dark, with only some green guidance lights flashing on the ladder. Water was already accumulating under the feet. Jiang Ling closed the watertight door before the sea water submerged her legs.
Thanks to the pressure-resistant ability of the exoskeleton, the cabin pressurization process did not take too long. Soon, the seawater filled the lower half of the cylinder, leaving only a few bubbles in the field of vision.
