Jiang Ling intended to be a witness, just like the historians did, to record the memories of past civilizations and what would happen in the future from her perspective. She didn't have the same lofty goals as others; she just wanted to do what she could.
Such a goal can be said to kill three birds with one stone. First, it is a kind of work with profound meaning; second, she can travel to other places with a clear conscience; third, she can find her own meaning in traveling, thereby changing this sense of alienation from the world.
To achieve this goal, you need to prepare some plans, and the root of all plans is money. If this were in this world, it could also be points or some other general equivalent. So, it's back to the beginning: if you want to work, you need points, and if you want points, you have to work.
Jiang Ling has no one to exploit, so she can only exploit herself, or perhaps the "system"? Is this what is called need?
"System! Let's see what you can do!" She finally chose to believe this thing that called itself "Observer".
"Let me see, what's new compared to last time?" She focused her attention on the spot of light, and it immediately turned into a list:
NO-01-01, consumption 2;
. . . . . .
NO-03-01, consumption 1;
NO-03-02, consumption 1;
NO-04-01, consumption 1.
"Is it a card pool or a redemption list?" She was a little unsure. If it was a card pool, why were there so many different categories? Throwing everything into one pool would be in its best interest. But if it was a redemption list, why didn't it clearly indicate the contents or purpose of each item? Could it be that it didn't know what each item was used for?
Jiang Ling remembered that she had already used the first option once, so she decided to try the second one on the list, hoping to find some pattern. Her mind moved, and a black hole quickly appeared.
"Huh? Why is it another safe? Is it the same as the first one?" She caught the thing with her telekinesis instead of letting it fall to the ground like before.
She opened the box the old way; she had never figured out how to open it properly. Inside were five clear tubes filled with a pale blue liquid, and a booklet sat in its usual spot on the lid. "Same taste, same recipe!"
As usual, the booklet didn't include any clues, just a name and instructions: "Superpower gene potion? Intravenous injection? Could this thing be the same as the first one?" She felt that this thing was likely stolen from the warehouse of some strange company. If this thing was similar to the previous one, it would actually be worthless—no one wanted to gamble on the unknown. Well, well, at least most people.
"Okay, next!" She closed the box again and put it aside, then tried something else on the list.
"Then let's just go with the order! There are still quite a few points anyway."
This time, a white cube emerged. It was about the size of an egg, with a crack in the middle that could be pulled apart like a telescoping stick. "Is this... a portable hard drive?" Jiang Ling pulled it open and discovered four data ports hidden inside. One of them looked familiar. No, it was a USB port.
"I don't know how much data it can store. Maybe even the underlying protocols are not interoperable!" She estimated that this thing was the same as the ring, both of which were good-looking but useless.
"Never mind, next one!"
A can of Coke fell out of the black hole. More accurately, it was an object shaped like a can of soda. She noticed two retractable handles on one side of the can, and something resembling a plug on the other. "What is this? I have no idea what it is!" Just as the ancients couldn't imagine a talking brick, or primitive people couldn't imagine armor that could protect against stone arrows, Jiang Ling couldn't imagine the use of this object either. She instinctively wanted to throw it away, but she ultimately found a safer place to put it.
"What are they? Next~"
She finally recognized the object that fell this time. It was a very ordinary plastic storage box.
She accidentally noticed that this thing, like the previous "superpower gene potion", actually consumed 1. Perhaps there was some important information hidden in it that had not yet been discovered, because according to normal people's understanding, the lower the value of something, the lower the price.
"Although I don't quite understand the value scale of this system, let's go to the next one!"
"What's that? Why is it so heavy?" This time, the object was heavier than she'd imagined, and for a split second, her telekinesis nearly failed to catch it. "Why does it feel like a weapons box?" She placed a wooden box on the ground and immediately stood up, wanting to get a closer look. As her telekinesis penetrated the box, she discovered some unusual metal structures within.
It was a wooden box painted military green, and it looked well-preserved, practically like new. Jiang Ling used her claws to pry open the lid, revealing several rifles. These were well-protected by sawdust cushions, and the metal surfaces were coated with gun oil.
"What the hell?! What is this?" She recognized the guns in the room; they were so classic that she thought they were fake. "Four AK-47s, but not a single bullet!" After realizing there were no bullets, she calmed down. Good, this was very "systematic."
