"What exactly are you going to do?" Jiang Ling asked. She really didn't know what harmless disposal was?
"We're going to go to the third basement level and reset the reactor controls, and then you know what!" He shrugged.
"Underground? Isn't it soaked in water?" Jiang Ling asked doubtfully. She didn't believe that they hadn't investigated the current situation inside the station.
"Yes, but the reactor is different. There are several layers of isolation doors. Don't you know? I thought you should know." The flying squirrel looked at Jiang Ling, who looked confused, with some surprise. "Although it is flooded there, there is only some accumulated water at most. Most of the place is still dry. We can go down through the emergency passage. Well, it seems you really don't know. We originally planned to ask you to help drill the maintenance passage to the server area, but it is not convenient for us to do so."
"Didn't they fish the server out?" Jiang Ling turned around and glanced at the machine on a truck.
"No, those are just memories. What we need is the computing power of the supercomputer on the server. We need it to restart the reactor." The flying squirrel replied.
"Tell me how to do it. I can help you, but don't tell me riddles!" Jiang Ling said angrily.
"Okay, here's what we're planning..." She quickly gathered the complete information from the flying squirrel. Simply put, the Countermeasures Bureau couldn't abandon the area surrounding the site, and the biological contamination was difficult to resolve. But now, it was easier: they planned to blow up the site and the surrounding tunnels. The solution, they claimed, was to overload the reactor below and trigger a controlled fusion explosion. However, they could only estimate the timeline for the explosion; they couldn't remotely control it.
This required the assistance of several experts, who needed to reach the underground bunker three kilometers away within two hours of the reactor's self-destruct sequence. They had originally planned to use a drone to drill a maintenance tunnel, but unfortunately, that drone was lost along the way, and they didn't have enough time to replace it, so they had to find another solution. Fortunately, they met Jiang Ling along the way.
Jiang Ling remained noncommittal about their crude and crude approach. She'd heard the Russians had used a similar method to build a reservoir before, but this was, after all, their own territory. It had nothing to do with her; she'd helped with the project, but the blame lay with the Countermeasures Bureau. She also wanted to detonate a nuclear bomb herself; the experience was far more satisfying than just touching a gun.
The plan went smoothly. The acidified groundwater had only breached one isolation barrier and hadn't yet reached the point of flooding. After the three of them descended in an elevator over a hundred meters underground, they completed the entire process in just over two hours. At the final moment, she glanced back at the massive reactor.
It was a medium-sized fusion reactor composed of sixteen stacked tokamaks. Overall, it looked like four rings joined together, each with four donuts stacked on top of each other. According to the Mole, only one of these reactors was normally in operation, while the other three were in the process of preheating, automatic maintenance, and cooling. A single cycle took about twelve days, and after six to eight cycles, a two-day overhaul was typically required. During this time, the reactor relied on fuel oil converted during normal operation, or electricity transmitted from other stations.
The mole pressed the button to activate the self-destruct sequence, and then they evacuated the site in an orderly manner according to the plan. The stubborn people in the site were not fools. After hearing that this place would be abandoned, they began to run. But Jiang Ling estimated that they probably couldn't get far, at least not outrun the shockwave of the explosion.
At the entrance, the three of them found an off-road vehicle that had been left behind by the garrison. They jumped in and headed west. The road conditions in the Green Zone were somewhat better than those in the Yellow Zone, but the thick snow made it difficult to drive quickly. Flying Squirrel, the most skilled driver, could only manage 15 kilometers per hour. After a series of twists and turns, they finally arrived near the bunker within the scheduled time.
The underground bunker was a pre-war underground parking lot. They drove the SUV down and shut down the electronics. Flying Squirrel found a special metal mesh-lined car cover in the trunk and covered the SUV and themselves inside.
The radio signal was cut off. Apparently, this Faraday cage was working quite well. The flying squirrel pulled the car cover a little, then carefully climbed in through the window. "How's it going? Pretty good, right?"
"Perfect, now take a rest, you haven't slept for several days!" The Mole said with concern, and it was rare for him to say a few more words.
Jiang Ling recalled something and asked, "By the way, how did you become enhanced humans?"
"Enhanced man?" The flying squirrel thought of something funny and laughed, "Hahaha~Enhanced man, someone finally said that word again! I knew it."
"What's wrong? Why can't you say that?" Jiang Ling asked curiously.
"You can say that, but it's no longer allowed in the Countermeasures Bureau." The Mole sighed, "After we were injected with the stabilizer, we actually lost the qualifications to evolve! Previous studies were not so detailed, they thought... That's not right, why should I say these things, you know it!" He suddenly reacted.
The laughter in the car stopped abruptly. The two men looked at Jiang Ling in the back seat and asked in unison: "Who are you?"
Jiang Ling raised her hands in surrender and said, "I'm sorry, I just used a little bit of my ability. Actually, I really don't know." She didn't expect the two people to react so strongly. It seems that the way she learned to use the superpowers was still too clumsy.
The two men were filled with fear. They didn't know how much confidential information they had revealed during this period of time. This fear was something they had only felt when they met with the director.
