Chapter 18 Fateful Encounter

Zhongduandian Station was actually a pretty good place to settle down, with a relatively safe environment and a prosperous economy. If you had some spare cash, settling down here would be a wise choice, and Jiang Ling had indeed considered it. However, as if driven by a sense of mission, her subconscious kept urging her to leave.

For the next day, Jiang Ling wandered around the site, feeling constantly that someone was watching her, unable to stay in any one place for long. She tried to find the person watching her, but every time she entered the sensory space, the sense of surveillance disappeared immediately. This made her restless, so she tried to distract herself by shopping.

Later, she "ran into" Shen Zi and Bai Wu again at the market. These two still had some human qualities, so they were curious about some of the merchandise. The two white-haired creatures stood out in the market; Jiang Ling spotted them from a distance, selecting hair ties at a vendor's stall. She wasn't interested in those things herself; she actually preferred those grungy, oily mechanical creations to those cute little ornaments.

Jiang Ling was quite resistant to such an encounter. Just as she turned her head to change direction, a voice came into her mind: "Is the matter done? When do we leave?"

"Are you guys so anxious?" Jiang Ling asked back.

"They are already targeting us, and you are not anxious?" The voice of the Son of God sounded again.

"Who are they? They can't be a cult, right?" Jiang Ling replied.

"Who else could it be? Besides the cult, could we be chased by someone else?" The Son of God was a little anxious.

Jiang Ling sighed. This guy was still playing the role of a riddler as usual. "Okay then. Let's meet next to the ration store in District 3 at noon tomorrow."

She suspected the two wouldn't accept the subway, considering they might not even have legal status, so she planned to take them via the third-floor intercity line. She'd also avoided going to the surface as much as possible. From what she'd read online, it became dangerous further west. Mutants often broke through the surface defenses and wreaked havoc on the surface.

The feeling of being watched persisted, intensifying at night, keeping Jiang Ling awake all night. Fortunately, she had prepared everything she needed for this trip. Besides restocking some basic consumables, she also bought some disposable daily necessities, allowing her to wash up easily while traveling.

The next day, they promptly gathered at the location Jiang Ling had specified. This time, the nun had changed out of her conspicuous attire, and Shenzi was wrapped tightly in a cloak. Jiang Ling led them from the personnel elevator at the junction to the third underground floor. This was her second time there, but Shenzi and the others were familiar with the route.

"Have you been here before?" Jiang Ling didn't say anything. She used her sensory ability to communicate with them. It must be said that this superpower is really useful. Not only is it highly confidential, but it is also real-time.

"No, okay, I've been here once or twice, but not to this site." Shen Zi rarely told the truth, but the other two didn't believe a word of it.

Jiang Ling led them for a while. There weren't many patrols at this station, and they encountered few along the way. Even if they did, they would have ignored them. Jiang Ling swore she hadn't moved at all. This must have been the work of the Son of God. Honestly, if she was so capable, why didn't she just run away?

"Well, I'm just worried about Sister Bai~" The Son of God explained in Jiang Ling's mind.

Soon, they arrived at the tunnel entrance leading to JY0302 Station, where a train loaded with supplies was already waiting. This was part of Jiang Ling's plan, something she had learned about two days prior using her privileged access to the military network. Of course, this was her first time hijacking a train, so she hadn't prepared for what would happen once she got aboard.

Taking advantage of the guards' inattention, they leisurely found a relatively clean carriage on the train. Jiang Ling sat on a crate and began to daydream. After a while, footsteps were heard outside, and then a group of soldiers boarded the first few carriages. A moment later, a buzzing sound came from the front of the train, and the three of them felt the carriages begin to move.

"Hey! How long are we going to stay here?" the Son of God asked in a low voice.

"It will go directly to the edge of the area, you can take a nap." Jiang Ling replied. If everything goes well, it will indeed go directly to Jinling Station in the far west. Because this is a subway train loaded with military supplies!

As the train sped up, after a certain limit, Jiang Ling felt that the sense of being watched disappeared. At the same time, the Son of God also breathed a sigh of relief.

"Can you tell me now? What are you hiding from?" Jiang Ling asked when she saw the other two people relaxed.

"No, nothing!" Shen Zi was a little panicked. But before Shen Zi could think of what to say, Bai Wu suddenly responded: "Here~ This is it."

She opened the backpack behind her and took out a gray mobile disk. Bai Wu ignored Shen Zi's shock and explained to Jiang Ling, "It contains a list of mutants with a history of harming people."

Jiang Ling turned to look towards the back of the carriage. Her gaze passed over Shen Zi and Bai Wu, and in the distance was a dark figure about 1.8 meters tall. The man was wrapped in a military coat, and the white enamel cup he held in his hand was very conspicuous in the darkness.

Jiang Ling asked, "What's your name?"
