Chapter 15 Curfew (End)

Facing the rising sun, a figure opened the window.

In a moment, gray-white smoke rushed out from the window, then was carried down by the cold wind of early spring and gradually dissipated.

"Ahem..." Ning Weihe, a chain smoker who had just walked in, couldn't help coughing. He was familiar with the place and walked straight to the aluminum chair by the window. Seeing several packs of cigarettes lying on the desk in front of him, his expression shifted slightly. He casually picked up one of the already opened packs, tapped it on the table, and picked up a cigarette from the cigarette holder and put it between his lips. Just as he was about to put the cigarette box back, he paused and tucked the box into his pocket.

"Smoke less! Look at what you've become! You didn't sleep all night last night, did you?" The person facing Ning Weihe was his leader. Ning Weihe was so exhausted that he could hardly tell who was talking. He just leaned against the window, without lighting a cigarette, and just breathed slowly, as if he were dead.

"It looks like things didn't go well last night?" the man asked again.

"Ahem, you guys don't seem to be doing well~" Ning Weihe said slowly, as if there was a piece of phlegm stuck in his throat, and his voice had changed significantly.

"Yeah, we received over sixty more cases last night. It's getting more and more!" The man couldn't hide his fatigue. As he mentioned the number, a fierce glint flashed in his eyes.

"No matter who it is, if he acts wildly on our territory, he will pay the price!" Ning Weihe heard different voices.

"We don't know yet. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also busy, they don't know either!" another person reminded.

Ning Weihe became a little impatient listening to their quarrel. He felt like mosquitoes were circling around him. Then he seemed to think of something, took out a document from his arms and threw it on the table.

This document, which consisted of only a few pages, seemed to weigh a thousand pounds. It hit the table with a "bang" and slid forward along the table, pushing several extinguished cigarette butts to the ground along the way, leaving streaks on the table covered with ash.

Everyone turned to look at the table.

The man sitting at the other end of the desk immediately stumbled to his feet, grabbed the paper and read aloud:

"Incident Response Report 182!" He glanced around and said, "Completed!"

"Good!" I don't know who was cheering.

But then the man continued to read: "Seven of our troops were killed and one is missing. Seven of our comrades were killed and twelve of our police officers were killed."

Upon hearing this, the people nearby immediately became depressed at a speed visible to the naked eye.

"The next few sheets of paper are about mission findings. You can read them yourselves. I don't understand them." The man took away the clip and distributed the sheets to everyone one by one.

A single sheet of paper recorded the "Level II mutant": Target codenamed "Blue Arrow," it was originally a hairy crab, first sighted two days ago near Chenghu Lake. The cause of the mutation is still under investigation. An autopsy revealed its exoskeleton, a composite structure of various chitinous materials, with the surface reflecting visible light in the blue-violet band. The lower layer of the exoskeleton is filled with specialized energy-absorbing adipose tissue. Its carapace has specialized structures that allow its claws to securely lock onto the shell, closing it and forming a bullet-shaped shell. We also discovered several unknown organs within it. Based on combat records, we speculate it may be propelled by biomass fuel jets, enabling high-speed maneuvers. Attached are autopsy photos.

There is also a piece of paper recording the countermeasures for this mutant: the target codename is "Blue Arrow", the front is a smooth curved surface, and its structural joints have not been observed to pass through the front-end individual; the back is a rough surface with a petal-shaped structure; its frontal protection ability is extremely strong, enough to withstand attacks from large-caliber tank guns. In most cases, ordinary bullets will ricochet when hit, but a large number of hits can cause its sprint route to deviate; we recommend using shaped charge rounds to attack its front, or using heavy armor-piercing rifles to attack its back, or using anti-armor target explosives to attack its bottom; and based on combat records, we recommend that the engagement distance be between three hundred and five hundred meters.

The remaining piece of paper recorded its habits and possible uses: the target codenamed "Blue Arrow" is presumed to be a scavenger, mainly active near the shore or shallow swamps near water; its exoskeleton can be cut with a red laser after it loses its activity, and its internal tissues, except for the brain and digestive tract, are all edible, and the meat is delicious.

After reading it, several people looked at each other, not daring to breathe. The man at the desk said to himself, "This is bad!" and looked at everyone seriously, "Anything you want to say?"

One of them immediately asked, "How many of these are there?"

He blinked twice, then shook his head: "A lot, but most of it is still under control."

"How do you control this monster?!" another person immediately shouted, "These are walking cannonballs!"

"Oh, there's one more thing." Ning Weihe woke up from a nap. "A soldier reported that his infrared radar picked up something else. I hope you can investigate." He paused, then added, "We can't miss any details now. There are more and more mutants. I'm a little scared... I'm afraid of people, and I can mutate too."

. . . . . .

"Ah, ah ...

Half-lying on the remaining portion of the sofa, she gasped for a long moment. When she finally recovered, the sky was already beginning to lighten. "The air quality seems much better than before! The sky has turned blue!" She remembered the sky as always gray. Every spring and autumn, allergic rhinitis would torment her to the point of neurasthenia. If she spent a few months here, I imagine most rhinitis sufferers would see significant improvement.

City residents who experienced a night of curfew were not affected much. Some old men and women had already gathered at the entrance of the community with some fresh vegetables on electric bicycles - people who know how to do business can do it at any time.

"It's even more lively?" Jiang Youwei, wearing only a towel, sat by the window, taking in the atmosphere within a two-kilometer radius. It was likely that the commercial and leisure areas were closed, and these idle people were confined to their own areas.

This is the furthest distance. Although we are neighbors, we always miss each other in time.
