The expected shock wave did not come, it seemed that the explosion was very far away from them.
"Are you giving up now? The car is gone, and you don't have to go back to look for a tablet."
"But, but now we don't have a tablet, no car, we have nothing. How can we complete the mission?"
"We still have you, and we still have me! As long as we're alive, we still have hope!"
Li Wenjia had encountered this situation many times, so his fighting spirit was much stronger than Lu Xianwu's. He didn't know how this half-baked teammate had survived until now. Maybe he was just lucky?
He didn't try to persuade Lu Xianwu, but simply handed him his gun. In a real battlefield, light weapons were often useless. Li Wenjia only needed the few remaining grenades on his body.
Of course, the gun is a soldier's last line of defense, and the psychological comfort it can bring should not be underestimated.
Li Wenjia ignored the person behind him. He put his hand, which was recovering its pain sensation, into his arms, and then took the lead and walked into the ruins of the city.
Lu Xianwu quickly caught up, and the two of them walked one in front and one behind, about ten meters apart, struggling to move forward in the rubble.
The surface radioactivity here wasn't high, but the scene in the city was unusual. The buildings looked as if they had been systematically demolished; the two could hardly find a single intact house. The roads were devoid of wreckage, and even roadside facilities were nowhere to be seen. It was as if they had razed the entire city, taking away everything salvageable.
Only rocks, gravel, and snow remained. Even the underground water and electricity lines had been dug out and taken away. Li Wenjia thought he had arrived at a construction site. Fortunately, they hadn't yet started on the roads and bridges, so they could still vaguely identify their location.
"We're at the central square. Let's see if there's an entrance to the station!"
The two passed through a door-shaped billboard and arrived at the first stop recommended by the command center.
The square was relatively well-preserved. Trees surrounded it, but they looked as if they had been charred to a crisp, their blackened trunks sprinkled with pure white snowflakes. In the center of the square was a musical fountain, but now only a pool filled with ice remained.
A large number of black body bags were piled up around the musical fountain, which was out of place in the surrounding environment and made the two people feel depressed.
Who killed whom, and who brought them here?
Li Wenjia endured the physical discomfort and walked to a corner of the pile of body bags. He opened one of them and started to check.
Inside was a young man, his body frozen into an ice sculpture. His pale face looked as if he had died not long ago. He had been stripped naked and put in there, with no respect left. There were no surface wounds on his body, but his hair had fallen out, so there was no doubt that he had died of acute radiation sickness.
Li Wenjia returned to his original position and told Lu Xianwu not to go near it. They walked to the other side of the square and continued to head northwest towards the train station.
The train station was on the other side of the city, surrounded by mountains on three sides. They had to cross the entire city to reach it. The journey was relatively smooth at first, but soon, Li Wenjia felt the ground shaking.
He raised his hand and clenched his fist.
"Left front, 30-degree angle, the sound source is 100 meters away, 80 meters away..."
"Hide quickly!"
The two men each chose a dilapidated house, went inside, and stared at the source of the sound and vibration.
It was a small hill. It ignored the two-story house blocking its way and passed through the dust and bricks to the path where the two of them were.
It's roughly two stories tall, shaped like a rectangular block. Its lower half is its running mechanism, consisting of tracks and suspension, somewhat similar to a tank, but much larger. Its upper half consists of a round head, a flexible robotic arm, and a ladder-shaped bed.
The head resembled the persimmons we often ate in winter, and the mechanical arm was nearly three times its length. The head seemed to be able to rise and fall, and in the middle of its outer ring was a ribbon that looked like glass.
It is painted yellow overall, and the bumper surrounding it is painted yellow, red and black.
It was clearly a typical industrial robot. Li Wenjia had only seen them online. They were said to be able to carry over 200 tons of cargo and, on dedicated roads, accelerate to over 100 kilometers per hour. In the past, they were undeniably gateways to otherworldly realms.
Generally speaking, these large robots are controlled by artificial intelligence and never go outside their work area. However, in some cases, they can also be manually controlled by humans, such as during disaster rescue operations, when people can remotely control these large robots.
The current situation is naturally not normal. After weighing the pros and cons, Li Wenjia decided to contact the person who controlled it.
He made a few gestures in Lu Xianwu's direction, and the guy waved his arm to indicate that he had received it. Then, under Li Wenjia's shocked gaze, he raised his gun and aimed at the robot and pulled the trigger.
“Bang, bang, bang!”
The robotic head's defenses were practically useless against these high-speed bullets. The upper half of the head was instantly shattered. Broken pieces of equipment littered the path.
After passing through the head, the bullet hit the metal truck bed at the back. Although it failed to penetrate the heavy loaded truck bed, it still left dozens of dents on it.
