Six armored crabs, their claw shields raised, slowly approached the team's hiding place. The merchant crouching on the higher slope continued to fire at them, but the bullets from his old gun had little effect on the shells. This weakened version of the Cannonball Crab was highly regarded by merchants and gourmets. Merchants would often sell their roe as Cannonball Crab roe, and diners could not tell the difference because Cannonball Crab roe was so rare.
This mutant has strong defensive capabilities, but it lacks the reputation of the Cannon Crab. It's not very fast and is just a simple sandbag. If Lao Wei had a better weapon, he could have penetrated it, but unfortunately this guy is too stingy to afford a good gun.
"Hey! Shoot too! I only need 100 grams, no, I only need 50 grams! You can divide the rest!" Lao Wei shouted on the slope. His position, which he thought was good, seemed to be difficult to be threatened.
Jiang Ling pulled out the crossbow behind her. The guy on the slope was so disgusting that she didn't mind sending him to the sky first. She carefully loaded an explosive arrow into the arrow slot of the crossbow on the side of the road, then extended the arrow head out of the slope and aimed at Old Wei above.
"Hey, don't do anything stupid!" The flying squirrel saw Jiang Ling's actions through the periscope on his exoskeleton and reminded him in the communication channel.
"Another mutant is coming!" Jiang Ling replied, "He will expose our position!"
"But if you come with a big one, you will be exposed too! By the way, how did you know that something else was coming?" The flying squirrel finally remembered that this comrade who looked very special had been predicting danger from the beginning.
"This is a secret! Why don't you see what's coming first."
"Is that... a ferocious porpoise?" He turned his periscope to the other side, and through the frightened crabs, he saw a huge brown creature.
"Are you sure?" Jiang Ling didn't quite believe it. If it was just a pig, the crabs would definitely have a chance of winning.
"Poisonous porcupine, Level II mutant, we are in trouble!" Mole interrupted in the channel, and then he crawled down the roadside slope to a bomb crater in the wild.
"Don't show your head, just pretend you've encountered a tank!" Following the mole's instructions, the flying squirrel also crawled into another bunker.
Time ticked by, as the crabs and pigs continued to inch closer to their hiding place. At one point, the crabs suddenly turned, their shields facing backward. Old Wei didn't think twice; he immediately leaned halfway out from the hillside and opened fire.
The next moment, the three people hiding in the crater heard a sound they had never heard before. A needle-like spike, an arm's length long, pierced the reverse slope of the crater where Dong Xie was. Liquid seeped from the tip of the spike, corroding the concrete roadbed and producing puffs of white smoke.
"Run! It's poisonous!" The mole in the distance turned on the loudspeaker and shouted.
Less than two seconds later, another barrage of spikes rained down near the group, but none of them were accurate, seemingly not aimed at them. From Lao Wei's perspective, dozens of holes suddenly appeared on the crabs walking on the road, and a large amount of blue-white tissue fluid flowed out of the holes. Then, the crabs collapsed.
He looked further away and saw a brown wild boar with long hair.
"Run, don't stay on the road, it's not safe there!" the flying squirrel reminded again.
Dong Xidu and Xidu finally reacted, but it was too late. Just as the three of them were about to stand, another wave of needles descended. Xidu, who was holding the guide, was pierced by a dozen poisonous needles, leaving a fist-sized hole in his head. He collapsed to the ground, lifeless. The guide stumbled under his pull, but narrowly avoided it.
Dong Xie, who had been tumbling from one pit to another, saw his brother being killed by the monster, and his eyes were bloodshot. He loaded a bullet into the chamber and began to charge his weapon with a battery.
Old Wei, who was hiding on the slope, was once again frightened by the scene before him. He rolled back from the top of the slope to the middle, and his mind, which had just been dazzled by wealth, regained its composure. He then realized what a foolish thing he had done, which was exactly the same as when he killed the two young men.
"Don't be impulsive! That mutant reacts very quickly! Don't show up!" The two people in the distance were still shouting, but the sound came from a loudspeaker on the side of the road.
"I don't care if you're a mutant! I still want to make my brother rich!" Dong Xie was angry and had lost his composure. He charged his weapon to the maximum, even if that would melt the barrel of the plastic gun.
"Bang!" A loud bang erupted from the road to Jiang Ling's left. The butt of the gun couldn't absorb the recoil, and Dong Xie was sent flying backwards. He flew out of the crater in a bow-like position, his butt rubbing against the road, and then he lost his balance and tumbled.
His aim was not very accurate, and the 10x82mm rifle bullet grazed the shoulder of the stingray. The shock wave caused by the bullet scraped off a large piece of its skin, but that was all.
The mutant, in pain, became even more frantic. It fired numerous poisonous stingers at the crowd, one of which pinned the fallen Dong Xie's arm to the ground. The poison took effect immediately, and his arm quickly turned black and discolored, and it was about to spread to the rest of his body.
"Covering fire! Da da da~" Two exoskeleton warriors emerged from another place and poured fire on the mutant. However, the bullets that had previously been invincible had difficulty with its tough, mud-covered skin. Only a few of the bullets that hit the wound had any effect, while the others ricocheted and flew away to unknown destinations.
