Chapter 3 Three Key Points

Their work wasn't over yet, especially Ma Si's, who needed to replace the wiring of a live cable. This dangerous work wasn't something anyone could do, and even Ma Si himself had to be careful.

The high-voltage power lines here are all superconducting wires. Although the voltage they carry isn't very high, the current is incredibly high. If you're not careful, the current will spread like a runaway water pipe, scattering electricity everywhere and incinerating all the surrounding low-power equipment.

Of course, these currents weren't directed toward the mainframe. In fact, its power consumption wasn't high. Most of these transmission lines were directed toward the next level, where the mining and transportation equipment were the biggest energy consumers. The mainframe's role was simply to control the mining equipment and the opening and closing of these cables.

"Hey, give me a hand!" Ma Si grabbed a cable as thick as his arm and tried to connect it to the adapter. But the cable was too heavy, even with his exoskeleton, he couldn't lift it. Furthermore, his current angle of force wasn't ideal, so much of his strength was going into maintaining his balance.

Qi Heng stood up upon hearing this, and then climbed onto the computer case he had just been sitting on. He raised both hands, making a gesture of support.

The two of them worked well together, having worked together for many years. The combined output of the two exoskeletons was approximately four tons, more than enough to handle this length of suspended cable.

After hearing the crisp connection sound, Ma Si's heart finally settled down. He dropped the other cable, and the heavy cable hit the chassis below.

"Hey, be gentle! My machine can't withstand such rough treatment from you~" Qi Heng also smiled, and then he tidied up the old cable, and today's task was completed.

Ma Si jumped down from the ladder and hit Qi Heng hard on the shoulder: "Fuck you! Hurry up and move it. I'll treat you to hot pot later!"

The happy laughter immediately spread throughout the entire underground space. Reflected by the tunnel walls, their laughter gradually changed and finally turned into a terrifying howl.

"...Ah! Huhu~Huhu~" Qin Le woke up from his sleep. He seemed to hear the roar of a devil in his dream. He tried to massage his temple with his hand, but his hand was blocked by his helmet.

It was pitch dark. He and his men had taken refuge in an emergency shelter. The shelter contained emergency oxygen and other vital supplies, enough to keep survivors safe for two weeks. Shelters like these were everywhere in the mining area, and the tunnel they were in had one every five kilometers.

Qin Le took a deep breath, trying to sort out the current situation.

They've been trapped here for nearly half a day. Their exoskeleton still has power, but it went offline at 1:00 PM on August 19th. Last night, just before the end of the shift, all the lights went out, all the equipment shut down, and all the lines were without power.

Fortunately, they were in the hypoxic zone. Although the oxygen content in the air here was not high, at least it was free of toxic gases. Their oxygen tanks still had a lot of pressure, and if they inhaled the air mixed with oxygen here, they could at least hold on for a few more hours.

Qin Le had more advantages. He would do oxygen resistance training every time he went down to the mine. So his oxygen reserve was much greater than that of the others in the group, and now it came in handy. To be honest, he just hoped that his training would never come in handy.

Judging by the time, the managers should have already sent a rescue team. What should he say during the interview? Considering how cheap human life is these days, they might not agree to the interview, but they should at least get some hush money. At least the mine recovered their exoskeletons, right?

It’s better not to think about those things, as they consume a lot of oxygen.

"Has anyone seen Wang Renxing? Raise your hands if you have seen him." He said it in one breath as best he could.

The team was missing someone, and as the team leader, Qin Le was definitely responsible. Putting aside personal issues, human life was more important than anything else. He felt that he had to at least recover Wang Renxing's body, otherwise his conflict with Wang Renxing might be used as an example in the future.

Furthermore, in a disaster, a person's flaws would be quickly magnified. If a crisis of trust arose within the team, he couldn't imagine what terrible things the others would do.

"Wang Renxing must have run away!" Xiao Su replied breathlessly.

"Don't be impatient. Speak slowly, take your breath, and don't forget what I taught you." Qin Le tried to calmly and seriously stop Xiao Su. They didn't have many resources, and any emotional fluctuations were a waste. In many cases, these wastes would accumulate, and the final result was often fatal.

"Huh~Huh~I saw...I saw Wang Renxing running away from area B4. He seemed to be holding something in his hand!" Xiao Su became more and more anxious as he spoke.

"You're talking nonsense! District 4 and District 5 are several blocks apart. Which eye did you see it with?" Xiao Li retorted, struggling as if to get up.

"Stop, stop, calm down!" Qin Le immediately stopped their unrealistic quarrel. With his experience, he immediately thought of several possibilities. The most likely possibility was hallucination caused by lack of oxygen. In that case, anything could be seen.

"The first thing now is that we must find a way to let the rescue team know our location," he said.

The low-oxygen section they were in twisted and turned for dozens of kilometers. Even if the rescue team ventured down into the well now, they wouldn't be able to cover much ground each day. Furthermore, if they encountered a landslide or flooding, the actual rescue time would be even longer. Furthermore, given the current situation, it was uncertain whether the rescue team would even arrive.
