In the subsequent conversation, this caravan, which had nothing but people and money, and Jiang Ling, who had nothing but people, hit it off immediately, planning to collaborate. But by then, it was already late, and the snacks on the table had been finished. After agreeing on the time and place for the next round of business negotiations, Jiang Ling and Jiang Wenwen left.
"How is it?" Jiang Ling asked Jiang Wenwen on the way back.
"What's going on?"
"Can those people be trusted?"
"You're an adult, aren't you going to judge?"
"Just asking you."
"Uh~ I don't know!"
Jiang Ling was certain her father hadn't understood a thing. She recalled her grandfather's complaints about him, and it seemed like Jiang Wenwen had inherited none of the business genes.
The next business negotiation was scheduled for tomorrow at their home, Room 101, Building 13, Row 1, District 2. Jiang Ling figured that after the negotiation, she could stop by Li Wenjia's girlfriend's house to at least find out how far their relationship had progressed.
Although no deals were made that day, a lot of information was gathered. She finally figured out how long a bag of synthetic rations lasted. It turned out that a bag contained four small pieces, enough for an average person to eat for two days. After converting the numbers, Jiang Ling realized how foolish her previous actions had been—one person consumed a month's worth of food for everyone else in one meal. If she hadn't still been to the toilet, she'd probably be working as a manure-making machine.
No longer burdened with plans, Jiang Ling finally didn't have to count or count down to get through the long nights. As soon as she got home, she searched online for psychology knowledge, hoping to gain more advantages in business negotiations. Unfortunately, she hadn't touched a book on that kind of professional knowledge in years, and the specialized vocabulary was completely unfamiliar to her. The densely packed small print quickly lulled her to sleep.
It was quiet all night, except for the occasional sound of machine engines outside the window.
The next day, Huang Yun was surprised to see Jiang Ling getting up on time. When he found out that she was going out, he was even more surprised: "You're actually going out? Did you find a job?"
"Yes, I invented a job for myself!"
"Isn't it something indecent?"
"No, but I might have to go to other stations in the future! Well, I won't go alone!"
Huang Yun finally started to get worried. People's hearts are so complicated. "Will you be in danger if you go out?"
"Did you say it's dangerous?" Jiang Ling looked at her with amusement: "I shouldn't be the one worrying about danger, right? Anyway, I won't be a reckless person!"
After a while, she finished packing her backpack and added, "Don't worry, I'll transfer part of my income back home in the future! Feel free to email me if you have any questions!"
Huang Yun finally felt relieved after hearing this. She watched Jiang Ling open the door with a light bag on her back and smiled at her: "Go quickly! I won't send emails unless it's okay!"
. . . . . .
The backpack contained several bags of compressed synthetic rations and the unsent letter. When passing through the corridors between residential areas, one would pass through a detection gate, so it was best not to carry any metal objects. These gates were intelligent and required no supervision. Furthermore, even if they detected someone with controlled items, they wouldn't sound an alarm. Instead, they would immediately transmit the person's heat signature to the central computer in the core area, which would then analyze the person's basic information and send it to the government. It was like the old days of being photographed for running a red light: you wouldn't know when you'd committed a crime until you were caught.
You don't really need to bring any change when you're in the residential area. The signal inside the station is very good, and you can pay with the terminal. But Jiang Ling is really short of money, so she can only take a few bags from home to make up for it. Of course, Jiang Wenwen, who is staying at home, also thinks so. So when Jiang Ling is out, she sneaks into her room and takes a bag of bullets, satisfied.
Jiang Ling walked for about half an hour. The passageway was bustling with people, some just getting off work, others on their way to work. Idlers like her were a minority, after all. Of course, it could also be due to the current rationing system, forcing managers to split some work into multiple parts to keep these people fed.
After a few turns, she arrived at Area 2. Just as Jiang Ling had expected, the suites here faced south, tilted more than those in Area 3, almost parallel to the tracks on either side. Jiang Ling constructed a spatial model in her mind, guessing that the entire second underground floor was a pentagon, and in the center of this pentagon was the underground launch silo she had discovered.
The "Three Yang Caravan" had their base right in their own home. Jiang Ling quickly found her way there by following the building number. She was welcomed into the home by the proprietress. The children were presumably in school, leaving only the adults at home. Their furnishings were plain, and there wasn't anything particularly special to display. The war had only been over for a month, so those decorations wouldn't be produced so quickly. Jiang Ling took a look around and noticed their machinery didn't seem to be stored at home.
"Did you build a warehouse outside?"
"The area connection area can be rented, and it's right outside the inspection gate, so we can store some gray items. It's also very close to the unloading point and the elevator to the upper floor."
"So that's how it is!" Jiang Ling thought she had to dig a tunnel herself, but she didn't expect that the designers had already thought of it.
After exchanging greetings, the few of them gathered around a table, each holding a cup of tea and began to negotiate.
