The first bird to stick its head out gets shot, so they didn't intend to be the first to do so. They parked the car, packed up what they needed, and then continued on foot.
Since everyone was wearing a bunch of plastic bags and had something covering their heads, several of them soon began to gasp for breath.
"Walk carefully, and try to stay on straight roads. If you get pricked by a stone nail, your clothes will be as good as nothing!" Li Wenjia kept giving instructions as he walked, panting heavily. He also helped carry a large backpack, and the swaying and clattering sounds coming from it made him a little curious. "By the way, what did you bring?"
"Just take whatever you have at home. There's nothing much to take anyway!" Jiang Youwei replied.
"Canned food, a kettle, some antibiotics, the liquor she brought home this morning, and a lot of clothes." Huang Xiaohong rolled her eyes at her and spoke slowly, panting.
"Besides alcohol, nothing else is useful." A slow voice came from behind Jiang Youwei. Considering Jiang Wenwu's size, they only found her a shoulder bag, which contained only a few small items like chocolate and candy. So her steps were brisk, as if she was carrying nothing and wearing nothing.
"What a shame!" Huang Xiaohong spat.
"Why don't you two think about what names to write on the forms later!" Jiang Youwei planned to find something for them to do first, so as to avoid showing them off in public all the way.
The few people gradually became silent. There were more and more parked cars along the way. Some unruly cars had been pushed aside. After turning a fork in the road, they finally saw the entrance, or rather the entrance surrounded by the crowd.
"You guys better follow closely. Although I'm not really worried about you getting kidnapped, it will be troublesome if you get harassed!" Li Wenjia, who was walking in front, started to chatter again. He had said this several times.
The scene here reminded Jiang Youwei of the long-distance bus station he'd visited as a child, before his time travel. But there were also some differences. There were still huge crowds of people, but the difference was that they were all lined up. If it weren't for the armed police standing guard, these people would have rushed in immediately.
"Are we going to queue up too?"
"Of course, even if you're not afraid of bullets, it's best not to cause trouble."
Jiang Youwei still admires queuing. As long as there is order, then we should abide by it. Order is better than no order. Unlimited freedom is unlimited war.
They waited in line for about three hours without eating or drinking, and without experiencing any physiological reactions. It felt so good to be a nobody, and they could even happily watch and comment on those poor people who dropped out midway. Some of the unfortunate ones even lost control of their bladders before they could even take off their pants.
They slung their backpacks across their chests, ensuring every zipper was under their noses, while Jiang Wenwu kept tugging at Huang Xiaohong's pants; it seemed she was still a little afraid of being abducted. It was almost tea time when it was their turn, and the people trapped behind the bulletproof glass had already changed several shifts.
"Looks like you're the last group. Let the rest of you go!" A man in an officer's uniform ran out of the entrance, bearing this not-too-bad-but-not-so-good news. He shouted to the crowd, "Fellow citizens, our NT0603 station is 50% over capacity and can't accept any more people. Please proceed to the following substations within two hours..."
The crowd began to disperse, and those who arrived late ran as fast as possible back to their vehicles. Jiang Youwei discerned two important pieces of information from the cacophony: "Second counterattack, two hours."
She tapped Li Wenjia on the back and said to him, "Go ask the staff what happened."
"Name?"
"Li Wenjia."
"age?"
"Twenty-one."
. . . . . .
"Excuse me, what happened just now?"
The staff member, typing away on his keyboard, said without looking up, "There's no nuclear contamination here. Take off your masks and look at the camera!" Finally, the man quickly replied, "We didn't even stop the demons and were hit. The damage is huge. There's a network inside. Check it out yourselves."
"Next!"
Jiang Youwei stepped forward and asked, "Is there a personal terminal here?"
"Name? You'll get it by participating in labor!"
"Jiang..." She paused, then seemed to have made up her mind: "Jiang Ling!"
"age?"
She blushed, but kept her helmet on: "Sixteen."
The following is omitted. When the holographic headshot was finally taken, the face revealed under the mask made the staff member stunned for a moment. Then the person lowered his head and said, "Beautiful lady, hurry up, the people behind are still waiting!"
"Next!"
Jiang Youwei, no, now it was Jiang Ling. She turned around and picked up Jiang Wenwu while she was struggling restlessly.
“…Who is she to you?”
"Well~relatives, to relatives!"
"Okay, name?"
Jiang Ling quickly answered, "Jiang Wenwen!"
Jiang Wenwu, no, now it was Jiang Wenwen. Her face puffed up with anger and she uttered, "Humph!"
"How old is he?"
"She should be eight years old, right?" Jiang Ling pondered her figure for a moment.
"Then let's say eight years old. Even if it's a little late, it's okay. You can skip a grade in elementary school."
The following is omitted. Originally, a photo was required, but Huang Xiaohong in the background maliciously reminded her that she was her guardian, so the headshot could be skipped.
"Name?"
"Huang Yun." There was some seriousness in her voice.
"age?"
"Seventeen."
