Jiang Ling mingled in the team, sniffing the faint scent of shampoo on the hair of a young lady in front of her, and unobtrusively poked half of her head out. Her height, which was not short, was only considered the lowest among the trainees. Fortunately, most of the big guys were eliminated during the screening stage, which finally gave her some self-confidence.
The thing in front of him was a newly assembled exoskeleton. It was currently painted in a rather conspicuous orange and white color. Overall, it looked like an enlarged sausage. It was estimated to be about 2.2 meters tall. The basic structure was similar to the one Jiang Ling had tried last year, but the various modules were much more compact.
A man dressed as an officer stood next to the exoskeleton, introducing the modules installed on it to everyone. Jiang Ling noticed that there were many stains on the man's cuffs, and there was a black substance between his fingers that could not be washed off.
"...I won't say any more nonsense. Comrades, please look at my pointer and we will talk from top to bottom." The officer took out a telescopic stick used for teaching from his left chest pocket, stretched it and aimed it at the top of the exoskeleton helmet.
"These are top viewfinders 01 and 02, corresponding to the forward Z-axis and reverse head-facing fields of view, respectively. They're dual viewfinders, and can operate even in environments with strong electromagnetic interference..." The officer pointed to the protrusion on the top of his helmet and then looped the telescopic rod around the back. Due to the perspective, no one could see the exact location of camera 02. Fortunately, another exoskeleton not far away, facing away from them, revealed the answer.
This exoskeleton has a total of 18 viewfinders: four on the helmet, six on the torso, one on each arm and palm, one on each leg, and one on each end of the crawling robotic arm. The two on the visor and the two on the robotic arm are likely the most commonly used. Their functionality and precision are evident: the two on the visor simultaneously perform optical, infrared, electromagnetic scanning, and microwave modes, extending their detection range far beyond that of the naked eye; while the two on the robotic arm are highly accurate, reaching the level of 0.2-meter remote sensing satellites.
"This is the crawling point of the robotic arm. It's made of a titanium alloy U-shaped tube and an electromagnetic locking device. It can be separated from the main body when necessary." The officer tapped the tip of the telescopic rod at the blue space handrails scattered around the exoskeleton. Jiang Ling estimated that the location information of these things would be a big pitfall in the near future.
"These are the arms and legs. Do I need to explain more? They are similar to the old model. They can be assisted by electric power or manually controlled. There are interfaces for magnetic adsorption devices on the feet and palms." The officer knocked on the limbs of the exoskeleton, and a reassuring metallic clang was heard.
Then, the officer pointed to the white squares on the torso and said, "These are external armor. They use a composite structure, with an ablative coating on the surface, a Kevlar sandwich in the middle, bulletproof ceramics and steel plates inside, and an explosive reaction layer at the bottom. Due to payload limitations, we can't cover them with armor, so they can only protect your vital parts at best... Any questions?"
"Report to the squad leader! Do we need to wear it to fight?" A trainee from the army shouted in a hoarse and powerful voice.
"I hope you don't need to, but you must always be prepared," the man replied.
