Chapter 49: Quick Life and Quick Death

In the dim pipe, the calm sea water suddenly rippled into two intersecting waves, and a blue-gray, bone-like fish spine slowly emerged from the water until it finally surfaced near the shore.

The frog's webbed palms slapped the wet ground, and the sharp claws on the fingertips easily left marks on the high-strength concrete. Then, a wet humanoid creature stood up, and a large amount of shiny mucus sprayed out of its nostrils.

After dozens of breaths, it transformed back into a human form.

The naked green-haired young man continued forward along the pipe and soon came to an open area full of stalactites.

【Little Twenty-Six, are you back? 】

An ethereal female voice appeared in his mind, which made him stagger and almost fall to the ground.

"Yes, yes, mother, I'm back." He answered timidly, as if he were a child who had done something wrong.

"Little Twenty-Six, I remember you're already one year old, why don't you know to say hello when you come home?"

The female voice sounded a little angry, but the special tone made it impossible to hear any emotional change.

"Yes, I'm sorry!" he said nervously, "I was too excited and forgot all the rules. Please punish me, mother!"

[... Well, after all, you're the best among your siblings. Little Twenty-Six, come over and lend a hand and meet your brothers!]

The female voice paused for a moment, then returned to normal.

With a thought, the young man's psychic power spread out, connecting to the fluorescent creatures nestling on the nearby rock walls. These miraculous cave creatures instantly transformed into countless stars, like holographic images, illuminating their surroundings and transforming the entire atmosphere of the dim cave. Stalactites transformed into trees, the limestone ceiling transformed into blue sky and white clouds, and beneath their feet, two blue lines snaked into darkness.

These are the memories in the young man's mind. His power is not particularly strong, so he can only achieve this level of static images.

With the help of the still bright fluorescent light, he bypassed several bottomless pits and passed through a low door pier before arriving at a flat basalt beach. Thanks to the long-term rise and fall of the sea, the black sand had become very fine, making it a rare and wonderful place for his mother and his brothers.

He stayed on the beach for a while, then stepped barefoot into the soft sand, feeling the sand moistened by the sea water gradually wrapping around his toes, and a strange pleasure spread from his heart to his whole body.

Not far away, about twenty dark figures of different heights appeared within the range illuminated by the fluorescent light.

"Good afternoon, my dear eldest brother, second brother, third brother... twenty-fifth brother, twenty-seventh brother." He bowed to each of them and greeted them with a smile.

They seemed to be cast from the same mold as the young man: their appearance, behavior, and even memories were very similar, though perhaps their experiences differed. The eldest brother, silent and taciturn, led the group a few steps forward, to a low point on the beach. They all bent down, carefully examining each pearl-sized egg in the water—approximately 200 million in total.

Twenty-eight brothers will be born among them, and if they are lucky, twenty-ninth brothers may be born. Those individuals who do not have talents will probably be eaten as snacks by their mothers. Those who are lucky enough to grow up will become very useful tools in the family.
