Chapter 53: The Quiet Earth-Moon Lagrange Point L2 (VI)

In the human world, this practice of packaging unrelated events as separate ones occurs frequently, but it doesn't always work. Generally speaking, concealing the truth requires the collaborative efforts of many individuals, and the specific costs depend on the impact of the event and the speed at which information spreads. Overall, technological development breaks down information barriers, making it easier to disseminate previously difficult events, thereby enabling society to operate more efficiently.

However, the actual situation is hard to say. In the current chaotic social environment, if any entity really wants to conceal something, the cost will not be too huge - at most, all those who know the truth will be physically eliminated.

Qin Zhongquan didn't want to dwell on it any further. After all, if he did, he'd have to revisit the myths of the community his adoptive mother had told him, and that would be a waste of time. The beauty of the community was too broad. Even on special days, when he tried to imagine that utopia that carried the beautiful visions of countless people—describing it with all the hymns he'd learned, just like the superstitious and religious groups on Titan—he found it difficult to reconstruct it in his mind, as if it were just a fictional kingdom on earth.

Before he knew it, he found himself staring out the window at the Martian rings. Composed of tiny rock particles no more than six meters in diameter, they always appeared in psychedelic colors in the sunlight. There were many online interpretations of the rings, but most missed the point. Many simply focused on the differences between them and Earth's rings, without delving into the details of their formation.

Yes, that is really ridiculous. People often say that Mars once had two satellites, but they would rather believe that there are two destroyed satellites than believe that they are waste discarded by the Community's orbital smelting plant. . . .

The third message came from the not too distant past. When Qin Zhongquan suddenly opened the email address he created as a child, he received a triggered self-destructing email sent by his adoptive mother before her death.

It was a video email that could only be viewed once. In the center of the screen was the familiar yet unfamiliar short-haired woman. She was wearing a Central Ring Alliance astronaut uniform and sitting at the desk in the captain's room. She looked so capable and refreshing, with the teardrop mole at the corner of her eye gentle and kind. The orange-red ribbon embellished with three shining stars shone brightly above her left chest, but the untidy debris around her showed that the video was recorded in a hurry.

Qin Zhongquan was so stunned by what he saw that he even forgot to find a video recorder to transcribe the precious footage. Fortunately, the communication device he carried with him had an automatic recording function, so this short audio clip was preserved:

“Child, I have to tell you that you are not a war orphan.

You are a clone I selected from the pre-war gene pool. You were originally two unrelated strangers in the heyday of my self and the community, more than two hundred years ago. Therefore, your genes are very old, and you still have the chance to mutate. You still have the possibility of becoming an awakened one.

Perhaps you have already gained power when you read this message, but do not be afraid of that power, and do not abuse that power.

You will soon find the truth of the world from your strength, but don’t be sad about my death, it’s just my choice, it’s just my ideal. . . .

My child, if you want to pursue it, then go to the farthest place!"

Qin Zhongquan listened to the recording over and over again, not stopping even after he'd reached the point where he could repeat every word. In truth, his adoptive mother's legacy was few. Aside from a few photos he'd always kept with him, everything else had been transformed into elementary particles by light and heat, to the point where he'd almost forgotten her voice and appearance.

That email was like a rebirth for him, so he treasured the recording and kept it safely in the harness inside his most-used exoskeleton.
