Chapter 99: The Quiet Earth-Moon Lagrange Point L2 (Part 52)

Compared with others, C-3 was undoubtedly extremely lucky. After he returned with half of the body from A-7, he briefly described what the team members had experienced after going deep underground a whole day later.

The actual landing point of Group C is located in the open area between three craters. The lunar soil is about 14 to 17 centimeters thick and has a high water content, but the particle diameter is very small. It seems to be industrial waste, mainly composed of basalt, molten rock fragments, glass fragments, plastic particles and carbon nanotube powder. The so-called interference is the result of the interaction between charged particles generated by the solar wind blowing on the lunar surface and these carbon nanotubes. Its unit ionization intensity is even no less than that of a handheld EMP bomb.

C-3 felt something was wrong the moment he stepped out of the hatch. A lot of noise appeared on his helmet display and long-distance communication became intermittent. Only after he got down to earth and away from his lander did the abnormality ease.

The ubiquitous charged particles made everything carry voltage. Even such advanced modern communication equipment would age quickly in such an environment, so he immediately ordered the team members to reduce the use of radio and decisively ordered the two people who were supposed to stay on the moon to descend together.

After more than three hours of grappling, the seven men and one missile reached the bottom of the cavern in two separate groups. After a brief test, C-3 realized he had misjudged the location due to the accuracy of the unmanned detector. He had initially thought this was a migrant city built by the Community, but in reality, it was simply the intersection of two underground pipelines, albeit ones with a diameter of at least three or four kilometers.

Considering that the target location was still further down, C-3 did not delve into where the two pipes led to, but turned on the rock-breaking drill equipped with them. They did not need to dig too deep. The surface of the moon these days was made up of a bunch of cavitations. All the walls that looked as hard as iron were actually just eggshells a few meters thick. If the diameter of the cavity was taken into account, it would not be an exaggeration to call it a thin film.

Halfway through the drilling, they briefly received a communication from Group A. More precisely, it was the vibration and noise made by Group A as they punched through the hole. The sound waves were transmitted through the rock, so they could not find the exact location of Group A.

Further down, there is another huge pipe. Based on this, C-3 judged that there might be a similar structure below this place, and it was indeed the case.

After descending to the third floor, they finally received wireless communication from Group A. C-3 sent two idle people to investigate the situation, while the rest of the people fixed the torpedo at the target position and then pulled the cables of the mechanical timer detonator and remote control detonator onto the elevator.

So far, everything seems to be going very smoothly.

Team A was about a hundred kilometers southeast of Team C. They had penetrated approximately four layers of "thin shell," but the lander, as if dropped into a mineral grinder, was completely intact, save for the torpedo. Judging by the images sent by the explorer, the seven members of Team A on the lander had likely completed their self-rescue maneuvers. At least C-3 hadn't found any human body parts, so he didn't pay much attention to the missing individuals.

During this period, he also contacted Group B through the Terminal Number, but Group B's routine communication was not carried out on time, and C-3 did not care about it. After all, this kind of thing was too common.

The signal from the Terminus was intermittent, and considering the strong ionization interference on the lunar surface, C-3 believed there was no need to send anyone to check.

Finally, at the 11th hour of the mission, the high-strength cable of the elevator was cut manually.
