Chapter 12: Sword

"Who are you......"

The man before him was a gray-haired man, a hair color common on the surface. He had a low forehead, two sharp eyebrows hidden behind his bangs, ordinary eyes, and below that, a straight nose.

He's quite good-looking. If you ignore the sci-fi-style equipment he's wearing, he must be a handsome young man loved by everyone in the tribe.

The man's lips were pale, as if frozen. They moved, forming a smile, then opened slightly, and white mist rushed out from the gap.

"Don't you know me?"

The two attackers on the bed shook their heads in unison.

"I thought you knew. My nickname is widely circulated among the tribes in the east." Li Wenjia slowly walked to one of the beds, leaned close to the wanderer's ear, and continued, "Pale Blade. Have you heard of it?"

"Pale Blade? I think I've heard of it."

Lying in his hospital bed, He Ye frowned slightly as he recalled a story he'd heard a few weeks ago. They said that in the far east, a powerful mutant had appeared. No prey could stand up to him. His appetite was so voracious that no grass would grow wherever he passed. Even fellow mutants in his tribe could be devoured by his hunger.

Could this be referring to him? It doesn't look like him!

"Slurp~"

A drop of water fell on He Ye's pillow.

He Ye's forehead was covered with sweat. He was now half sure. He looked up tremblingly. The gray-haired man was staring at him. His eyes were calm, as if he was looking at a small animal waiting to be slaughtered.

"Ah~ Don't give it~" He Ye screamed incoherently, while Xiao Ba on the other bed had already started struggling.

"Eat him, don't eat me! I'll trade him with giant rats, and you can take all those rats! They're not poisonous! We raised them all! They're really not poisonous, we were just lying before!"

Seeing the time was right, Li Wenjia added fuel to the fire: "Shut up! Give me a reason not to eat you."

He Ye saw the man's pupils shrink into a line, pale teeth exposed from the pale lips, the surrounding air pressure dropped by several orders of magnitude, and an invisible black air emanated from the man's back. His psychological defenses were instantly shattered, and he swallowed, feeling a little helpless.

"Ah, ah? What do you want to know?"

"Tunnel! Brother Ye, Brother Ye! He must be asking about the tunnel!" Xiao Ba in the next bed screamed.

"Tunnel? There's nothing in the tunnel. There's nothing to say!"

He Ye was sweating profusely. His limbs were tied to the hospital bed. He didn't know what the ropes were made of. He had been awake for quite some time but still couldn't escape.

Li Wenjia sighed, walked away from the bed, and turned to look at Qin Xin who was sitting beside him.

Qin Xin spread out his hands at the right moment, his expression changed, and he pretended to be fierce: "Since there is nothing to say, then please come to the table~"

"No, no, no! I have something to say! I have something to say! Tunnel... Tunnel~"

He Ye was terrified and tried his best to control his breathing. He tried to follow the thoughts of the two ogres, but those memories seemed to be hiding from him. His mind was blank and he couldn't remember any relevant information.

"Tunnel! That tunnel is called Wazhanzi! It takes half a day to walk back and forth from north to south. A small section in the middle has collapsed. We have a lot of giant rats there - the ones you caught are part of them. Brother Ye, tell us quickly, they just want to know what's going on in the tribe~"

"Xiao Ba, shut up! If you say everything, how can we survive?" He Ye didn't want to pay attention to that idiot, but his words did remind him that since he couldn't keep silent, then wouldn't it be a good strategy to say some correct nonsense?

"Hey, big brother, this tunnel is just like any other. What do you want to know?"

"Have you finished your collusion? Okay, tell me, what's the situation in your tribe?"

"My tribe? What tribe do I have? I'm just a businessman. You have to ask him." He Ye was certainly not a businessman, but he was not a tribal member either. It would be terrible if he was caught by the tribe in the tunnel.

"Let me tell you. My tribe consists of about ten people, both men and women, and we've been living here for two months. We migrated from the north, taking that very bridge. I don't know what's going on in the north now, but I heard a guy named Red Moon has unified it. If you go there, you can mention my elder's name—'Long Bone.' Have you heard of him?"

When talking about his leader, Xiao Ba showed a proud expression. It seems that this guy has a close relationship with that person.

"Long bones? I think I've heard of it before... Lao Qin, do you have any records?"

"Let me check... We encountered them two days ago in the abandoned city to the west, but there was no conflict. The reconnaissance team made a deal with them, and we traded some waterproof tape for a few pounds of rubber rings."

Li Wenjia nodded. He slowly walked back to the isolation door, took a stainless steel cup from the cabinet there, poured it with warm water, and said, "Didn't your tribe encounter any strange things in the tunnel? We heard a lot of strange things along the way."

"Ahem~ So that's what you're talking about. Let me think... Yeah, it was probably two weeks ago. Those buzzing things flying in the sky to the west suddenly went crazy, attacking anything alive. Before, they'd just follow us for a while, but as long as we stayed away from the western road, they'd stop chasing us. The elders shot down a few with slingshots, but those things were inedible, so they blocked the southern exit of the tunnel."
