Chapter 355 Fearless Charge!
"Damn, what is that!?"
“Oh my god.”
"What a blasphemous thing, the Pope's scepter!"
Exclamations rang out one after another, and the prince had to shout at his men before he could see what had appeared in the street behind him.
Believers of the Mother Goddess, believers of the Mother Goddess who can be recognized at a glance.
They were as thin as movable skeletons, with dry and protruding skin.
The clothes I was wearing were like pieces of cloth hanging on a hanger. When the wind hit my body, it made a crisp sound like hitting wood.
They walked slowly along the street like the dead crawling out of their graves.
These believers looked sicker and thinner than during the last rebellion.
"How is it possible? Didn't the Mother Goddess Church get a lot of food?" Galahad murmured in disbelief.
The prince's face suddenly darkened. He suddenly looked towards the secret society, and after seeing surprise on their faces, he turned his head away.
"Maybe it's not a problem of food." The prince narrowed his eyes as he looked at several obviously taller figures in the crowd.
Those must be the monsters they are talking about.
At first glance, he seemed to be a believer of the Mother Goddess, but his skinny body was obviously not normal.
Some had extra hands, some had multiple heads, and some simply crawled on the ground using several limbs.
Their bodies were still sickly thin, like starving people who were about to die, but their stomachs were swollen as if they were pregnant, with dark red blood vessels bulging under their skin.
It was like a person who was about to starve to death, who ate too much and whose stomach and intestines burst.
The hideous and twisted limbs and the numb and lifeless eyes made it almost impossible to distinguish which were ordinary believers and which had turned into monsters.
They were wailing as they walked, but their faces showed no expression except for numbness, which made people feel a chill down their spine.
The prince's heart skipped a beat.
"Something's wrong, something's wrong! Your Highness!" Galahad came over and said hurriedly, "Your Highness, they are different from the last time they rebelled!"
The prince did not say anything. He also noticed that the believers of the Mother Goddess he met last time, although their bodies were as thin as dead wood, had terrifyingly bright eyes. Once you have seen that look, you will never forget it. Those eyes are full of vitality and hope.
They were poor and skinny, as if they would fall to the ground at any second, but when they stood together, they were like a high wall built of flesh and blood.
They were warriors then.
But now, that firm will can no longer be felt among the dark crowd.
The believers just moved forward stiffly, as if their sluggish bodies were chasing after their out-of-control souls.
"Galahad!" The prince looked at his knight.
"I've never seen anything like this before." Galahad shook his head. "Previously, the Mother Goddess Church usually dealt with the rebellion there, and there were no records of these monsters appearing."
"Never mind, let's open fire first." The prince drew out his scimitar for command. "Soldiers, raise your guns!"
The cavalrymen took out their muskets, which they had loaded with gunpowder before setting off. When they received the order, they raised their muskets.
The prince paused for a moment, staring intently at the followers of the Mother Goddess opposite him. Even though these cultists were being pointed at by black gun muzzles, they did not slow down for a moment and continued to move forward slowly but firmly.
The prince swung his scimitar from the air: "Fire!"
Bang! A burst of gunfire rang out. The trained horse was not startled, but the smoke from the burning gunpowder still obscured his vision. The prince rode forward a few steps before concentrating on looking at the Mother Goddess believer opposite him.
The accuracy of muskets is very poor, and it is even worse when shooting on horseback, but the volley of dozens of people can still achieve quite a few results.
The Mother Goddess believers on the opposite side fell down in a row.
The cavalrymen began to load ammunition subconsciously. This was different from the line infantry, who often needed to wait for unified commands - loading a muzzle-loading rifle was quite cumbersome, and the highly nervous soldiers on the battlefield could easily miss an item. It was better to load according to unified instructions. Although the overall efficiency was reduced, the probability of error was lower.
The shooting environment for the cavalry is more complicated, and the instructions are not so rigid. Many times they shoot freely, or even run while shooting. This places higher demands on the soldiers, which is why the cavalry using muskets are elite.
But this time, the elite soldiers were stunned while reloading.
"Oh my god, those people."
"Monster monster!!"
"How is that possible!"
"Weren't they shot?!"
Indeed, several believers of the Mother Goddess fell down, but they stood up again quickly. The bullet holes on their bodies were still bleeding, but they still took a step and slowly walked towards this side.
One believer was hit in the joints by several bullets at the same time, and his entire leg was broken. He could no longer stand up, so he crawled forward with his remaining limbs, leaving a shocking trail of blood on the ground.
But his crawling speed was too slow. A tall spliced monster passed by him, picked him up and held him in front of his face.
The monster opened its mouth and bit its companion hard.
There was a tearing sound mixed with chewing sounds, and blood flowed from the corner of the monster's mouth, all the way down its throat, and spilled on its belly that was swollen like a balloon. In its belly, where the skin was stretched to a somewhat transparent state, various mixed limbs were slowly wriggling.
The cavalrymen opened their mouths wide, their pupils trembling, as if they themselves were being eaten instead of the cultists.
Pop.
One of the cavalrymen loosened his grip and his musket fell to the ground, but he was unaware of it. He just stared at the monster in front of him, trembling, unable to look away. It was as if his sight had materialized into a rope, being pulled in the monster's hand, getting closer and closer.
After just one encounter, these mortal soldiers lost their minds and stood there motionless in fear.
The prince also froze there, but a struggle quickly emerged on his face, and his firm will instantly broke through all obstacles -
"Galahad!" the prince shouted loudly, and the dazed knight came back to his senses instantly. He took a deep breath, his eyes became bloodshot, and the blood vessels in his muscles bulged.
With a clang, the sword was unsheathed, and Galahad suddenly exhaled the air in his chest, and his roar like a wild beast instantly woke everyone up.
The knights looked at each other in confusion, and then a look of shock appeared on their faces. But before they could start to be afraid, they heard the prince's order: "Soldiers! Follow me! Forward!!"
The high-spirited voice somewhat dispelled the fear, and the cavalrymen obeyed subconsciously. The prince, scimitar in hand, led the soldiers forward with Galahad, like fearless warriors.
But the direction they were charging was not towards the monster.
