Chapter 358: Brave

Chapter 358: Brave

The monster was originally only slightly taller than a human, and from a distance it still resembled its former human appearance.

But now, standing in front of the barricade was a huge mountain of meat that was almost two stories high.

The hands were struggling to grasp, the legs were supporting themselves to move forward, the eyes were bleeding, the mouth was wailing, and countless limbs formed part of this twisted piece of flesh and blood.

The moment they saw it, everyone on the defense line froze.

The indescribable fear was like a big cold hand, slowly grasping everyone's heart.

Fear, a fear that is difficult to describe in words, made the followers of the secret order unable to even escape.

When people are extremely frightened, they don't run away, but freeze in place. This is the instinctive reaction of living things when facing natural enemies - or suppression.

It is said that goats in the southern continent will not run away when being targeted by lions. They will stand still and watch themselves being eaten bit by bit.

And everyone at this moment seemed to be facing extreme fear, the natural enemy of mankind.

The monster stretched out its hand and grabbed the two members of the secret society from the roof, stuffed them into its mouth, chewed them for a few times, and then spat out a ball of iron slag - that was the musket that had just been swallowed along with the two people.

Then, the monster turned to look at Josh standing on the roof and extended his hand without hesitation.

There were more limbs growing on its hands, including arms, ears, and hair, and the giant hand quickly stretched out in front of his eyes.

I will die, run, run! Run! Run! The mind screamed and tried to drive the flesh, but the body was stiff like a stone statue, motionless.

Josh wanted to close his eyes desperately, but he couldn't even do this simple action. He just watched the giant hand getting closer and closer. A hideous face on the hand wailed and gradually enlarged in his field of vision, as if foreshadowing his end.

But at the moment when it was about to touch, his vision suddenly moved upwards, above the giant hand, and he saw the narrow sky in the alley.

Boom! The monster missed its grasp and crashed onto the roof next to it. Bricks and stones mixed with rotten wooden boards fell from above.

Qiao Xi's body suddenly became able to move, and his sluggish will once again controlled his flesh and blood. He coughed, turned over, and looked to the side.

Someone just pulled him and snatched him from the monster's hands.

".Zoe!?"

It was Zoe. She was also covered in dust and dirt. There was a big cut on her arm and blood was flowing out.

Everyone was frozen just now, but she was not. When the monster crashed into the roof, she rushed over desperately and barely saved Josh.

How could she act? This question crossed Josh's mind, but the situation before him left him no time to think. Taking advantage of the chaos caused by the monster, he and Zoe quickly woke up the people around them.

"Fa, what happened?"

“Monster! Monster!! That’s a monster, ahh ...

"Wow, there's no way we can defeat those monsters."

The believers were awakened, but many of them went crazy on the spot. Some of them wailed, some dropped their weapons, and some even banged their heads against the wall while crying.

"Hold on, pick up your weapons, and fill his gap quickly!" Qiao Xi shouted and gave orders in a panic. Although he tried not to show it on his face, his heart gradually sank to the bottom.

The morale had almost completely collapsed, and the defense line here could no longer be held. But inside were the believers of the secret order, and they had no way to retreat.

If this place is lost, the evacuation will turn into a rout. There is no need for the enemy to chase us. The collapsed order will cause the believers to trample on each other. Who knows how many people will die.

Josh gritted his teeth and took the spear from the fallen cultist. He had never fought with a weapon before, and his legs were shaking violently. He used all his strength to move forward a few steps and stood on the defense line.

The smoke and dust gradually dissipated, and Josh looked across from the gap between the bricks and stones. It was pitch black.

It was the monster's ferocious mouth, with a stench mixed with wailing coming from its mouth. It bit the fortifications, and the simply built barricades could not withstand its attack at all.

The hastily put together stones and wood were scattered all over the ground. Josh was hit on the face and fell to the ground with stars in his eyes. When he stood up shakily, he suddenly felt a black screen in front of his eyes.

The sunlight streaming down the alley was blocked.

Josh subconsciously raised his head, his sight gradually rising, but he raised his head too much and lost his balance, and sat down in the ruins.

The meat mountain monster was standing in front of him, chewing continuously in its mouth. The wood and stones mixed together made a crunching sound that made one's teeth ache.

The sound suddenly stopped, and Josh heard a swallowing sound. Then the moving body of the monster brought up a fishy wind. It lowered its head and looked at the little guy sitting in front of it.

This time, Josh did not freeze. He immediately wanted to turn around and run for his life, but after kicking and struggling for a few times, he found that one of his legs was completely buried in the collapsed ruins and he had no feeling at all.

Looking down, I saw dark red blood slowly flowing out.

It's over.

In the end, he was going to die anyway. He shouldn't have stepped forward and should have just run away, just like the prince.

The monster's huge mouth slowly opened wider, time seemed to slow down, thoughts began to drift, and past life appeared before my eyes one by one.

Perhaps he should not have established any secret order. At that time, he had money and goods in his hands, and it would not be difficult for him to find a place to escape and save his life.

Now that Castel is gone, what is he holding on to?

Perhaps he should have left with his mother-in-law during the last rebellion. With her protection, he would have returned all the way back to Castel. The secret order would have let the Crusaders take over, and the current troubles might have been solved long ago.

Maybe he should have just run away when Zoe rescued him just now, and many people in the secret order would have died, but he had already tried his best. He shouldn't have picked up the spear, stood on a battlefield that didn't belong to him, and faced the monster he couldn't kill.

He should just abandon all his responsibilities and walk away, just like the prince did.

Josh closed his eyes.

Could he do it? Just walk away, abandon everything he was carrying, and run for his life.

If he were given another chance to choose, would he still pick up the spear with trembling hands and stand in front of the monster?

Josh closed his eyes - at least this time he could close his eyes and not have to face the cruel reality.

He thrust his spear forward. It was the last thing he could do, even though the weapon was like an insignificant toothpick in front of the monster.

Time seemed to have stopped.

Qiao Xi couldn't help but open his eyes, and then he just stood there in a daze.

The monster's huge body swayed, then fell to the side, with the spear he had just stabbed still stuck in its body.

How is it possible? Why did Josh look past the fallen monster?

Densely packed soldiers stood behind with guns in hand. The man in front was riding a horse and holding a scimitar. The sunlight shone on his blade, casting spots of cold light in the alley.

Josh recognized him.

That is the Lord of Blood Harbor, Grand Duke Tis - the Prince.

He is back.
