Chapter 359: The Skitarii's Battle
"prince!?"
Josh opened his eyes wide, his heart full of surprise.
He originally thought that the prince's group had abandoned this place and fled for their lives, but unexpectedly, reinforcements came back.
Behind the prince were the musketeers of the Harbor Guard. They almost filled the entire alley. The believers of the Mother Goddess who had originally walked to the vicinity of the barricade turned around slowly, and were greeted by the black muzzles of guns.
"Fire!"
The officers roared and issued orders. The monsters from the Mother Goddess Church were pushed back by bullets before they could move forward. Although those insane believers were not afraid of life or death, their bodies could not withstand the bullets after all. They fell down one after another like wheat blown down by the wind.
Although the monsters were gnawing on the believers, the people in front of them fell too quickly, and they had to use their flesh and blood to face the gunpowder and bullets.
Blood flowers exploded on its huge body, and the monster's roar was drowned out by the sound of gunfire. In just a moment, the alley was flooded with blood.
Josh was pulled back by several members of the secret order. He was gasping for breath. The moment of life and death almost exhausted all his strength.
"Fortunately, fortunately, the prince came to the rescue," Josh said intermittently, but he soon noticed Zoe beside him. The girl did not look well.
"What's wrong, Zoe? What's the problem?"
"Something's wrong." Zoe stared at the harbor guards outside. Unlike the small group of cavalry led by the prince before, these were all infantry. They were constantly repeating the cycle of loading and firing, and the number of enemies on the opposite side was decreasing during this cycle.
Josh followed her gaze and gradually realized that the Harbor Guards were also in the Upper Town. Why were they there but the Crusader Army was not?
My mother-in-law informed the Secret Order from the beginning that the Crusaders would come to support them. In theory, they should have set out earlier than the Harbor Guards. They are all infantry without horses, so they should not arrive later than the Harbor Guards.
"Maybe they were held back? There are so many followers of the Mother Goddess."
"Impossible, this kind of enemy can't hold back the Skitarii." Zoe's face looked very ugly. She had experienced the deep sea war and knew the fighting power of the Skitarii. With just these believers of the Mother Goddess, the Skitarii could advance here quickly even without heavy firepower support.
"And even if the Skitarii were held back, why didn't Granny come over? What kind of enemy could hold Granny back?"
Josh swallowed.
What kind of enemy can hold back the mother-in-law?
Qiao Xi didn't know much about the extraordinary, but he knew that his mother-in-law was best at hiding and escaping, and even his mother-in-law couldn't get away. Qiao Xi quickly took out a map from his clothes and pressed it against the wall to identify it.
"The roads in the upper city are too narrow. They can't possibly go west!"
The secret society was not far from the upper city. After a quick assessment, Josh pulled Zoe through the alley and ran to the other side.
With the prince and his harbor guards here, nothing serious will happen. The Crusader Army is more important.
The two stumbled past the busy believers. The secret order was preparing to evacuate, and no one knew if they could hold on. Several carriages were parked on the road, and women holding babies ran out of the house in panic. The believers were barely able to maintain order.
Josh was very familiar with the place, and he took Zoe through many twists and turns and finally climbed up a tower.
Pushing open the rusty wooden door and walking past the rusty clock, the two came to the window. Josh almost couldn't stop and swayed from the gap in the wall. Fortunately, Zoe grabbed him and didn't fall.
The two men stood up awkwardly and looked towards the upper city in the distance through the gap.
"Oh my god. What is that?"
Josh opened his eyes wide, looked at the huge figure in front of him, and muttered to himself absentmindedly.
This is the clock tower, one of the tallest buildings in Blood Harbor. It was built when Blood Harbor was prosperous. Bell ringers would ring the morning bell every day, but now only the ruins can bear witness to its former prosperity.
Standing here, you can have a panoramic view of most of Blood Harbor. Further away is the Upper Town, where the entire area is surrounded by stone walls and is now guarded by many soldiers.
If you follow the streets of the upper city all the way south, you can see a group of soldiers holding bolt-action rifles. They are wearing a uniform military uniform, which was recently made by Zeus. This group of new Crusaders who arrived at Blood Harbor happened to be the first to wear it.
At this moment, their current situation was extremely bad. The soldiers were running desperately in the alleys, occasionally firing back under the command of the officers.
The bolt-action rifles they used were far superior to the muskets of this era in terms of power and speed. The soldiers who had experienced the baptism of deep-sea warfare also cooperated well, but the battle was still very difficult.
It was because they were facing a monster that was as tall as a mountain and blocked out the sky.
"What is that then?"
Josh's eyes fell on the monster. It looked like a mountain of flesh and blood, or like a very fat person, with disgusting fat under its wrinkled skin.
But if you look closely, you will see that the skin and flesh are not motionless, but seem to be filled with countless maggots that are slowly wriggling and stretching the skin into wrinkles of different shapes.
On top of that skin, there were countless tiny limbs - no, those limbs were not tiny, it was just that the monster was so big that they looked small. The limbs densely spliced on it looked like a layer of fine fluff.
The fluff keeps moving.
Josh staggered a few steps and almost fell to the ground, while Zoe turned pale and almost vomited on the spot.
The two of them paused for a moment before looking at each other in horror and speaking at the same time.
"Do you feel it?"
"Those monsters among the Mother Goddess's followers!"
This monster did look very familiar to them. They had just seen those monsters on the street, and the next moment they saw this huge mountain of flesh here.
They were very similar in appearance, limbs, and movements. The monster in the alley was constantly devouring the corpses of believers to grow bigger, but neither of them had expected it to grow to this size.
The mountain of flesh was already taller than the tower, but luckily its movements were relatively slow, otherwise the Crusaders would not have been able to deal with it given its size.
Even if the Crusaders can barely deal with it now, the battlefield is still full of dangers.
The monster tried to use its limbs to capture the little people on the ground, but the Crusaders were incredibly agile. Every time it slapped its limbs, the Crusaders below would scatter and then quickly regroup, and even fire back in the process.
Thanks to the Deep Sea War, the Crusaders have extensive experience in fighting giant enemies, and this meat mountain is much easier to deal with than the arm monster.
"Zoe, let's go down first and then find someone. Zoe?"
Qiao Xi was surprised to find that his companion seemed absent-minded, as if she was listening to something. In such an urgent moment, she was distracted? (End of this chapter)
