Chapter 468: Beginning of the Siege
The resistance army set out very early, and when the first ray of sunlight fell on the earth, they had already walked out of the town gate.
Even so, they would not arrive at Sleddingburg until almost noon, and if they set out later, they would likely be blocked by the winter wolves.
Isaac was not afraid of the information being leaked. The resistance army had complete control over Grizzly Town. With their backing, the people of the Ash Alliance had caught many spies.
They are professionals in intelligence.
After the resistance army leaves, they will also be careful not to let the news spread. This is not difficult. The townspeople in the town are very supportive of the resistance army and will report any suspicious persons they find. Sometimes the Alliance does not even need to help.
Gwen rode on her horse and looked back at the team behind her.
The resistance soldiers were wearing breastplates and marching in formation with muskets. Although their weapons were not very uniform and their clothes were somewhat tattered and rustic, there was a sense of pride in everyone's eyes.
They seized the equipment of the Winter Wolves in Grizzly Town, and now most people can get a weapon. Although some people still carry bows and arrows and hold wooden spears, it is a huge improvement compared to before.
I don’t know when it started, but this group of numb, weak and timid refugees completely changed their appearance and became more and more like a real army.
Now they are no longer lambs to be slaughtered, and they can occasionally show their fangs.
Gwen felt her chest warm, and a smile appeared on her face unconsciously. She was originally a little afraid, a little uneasy, and a little terrified, but now these weak emotions gradually faded away.
Once the people of the North go to the battlefield, they will no longer be afraid, and once they shed blood, they will no longer hesitate.
A little boy suddenly came over and Gwen recognized him. It was Grisha. He had secretly run away from the camp and followed the resistance support team. He was not discovered all the way until he arrived at Grizzly Town. He discovered that there was one more person.
He'd be a good hunter, if he was lucky enough to grow up. "What's wrong, Grisha?"
"Sister Gwen, are we going to save the North?"
Gwen couldn't help but burst out laughing. They were just a group of refugees, displaced and being chased everywhere.
If I hadn't been forced into a corner, I wouldn't have taken up arms to resist. It was only by chance that I got this far.
Save the North? No way.
They may not even be able to save themselves.
"Why do you say that? Do you like this land very much?" Gwen's eyes swept across the boy's white hair.
He has short hair that looks like a ball of snow.
The boy shook his head. "I haven't fallen in love with this land yet, but I like the people here. Old Wood in the tavern always gives me juice. He said I will be a warrior in the future and that the resistance will save everyone and is the hope of the North."
Gwen was speechless for a moment. She didn't seem to have done much. She just drove away those nasty wolf cubs and did some small things for the people in the town.
It was really a small thing, cleaning the streets, maintaining order, punishing criminals, and distributing some of the extra food, but not much, so the resistance army was still given priority.
But the people in the town reciprocated their enthusiasm. Someone always sent them some food. Gwen went to explain in person that the resistance army had no shortage of food, but in the end she was only stuffed with a bunch of bread and snacks and sent back.
Obviously they were White Crow people, with white hair and white pupils, while the people in the town were from the North, with golden hair and dark eyes, but those townspeople had no barriers at all towards them, and that kind of enthusiasm could not be faked.
But these resistance forces will leave eventually.
Once they find Castel, they will leave here. Count Hughes had promised them a homeland, and they are just passing through here.
Grisha trotted and looked up at the girl. His eyes were like a stream of melted snow in spring, clear and clean.
"Sister Gwen, will we save the North?"
Gwen felt an inexplicable irritation in her heart. She stopped her horse, lowered her head and looked at Grisha for a while. Finally, she sighed and her tone became gentler.
"Little Grisha, we will leave here eventually. The North needs the people of the North to save it. This is not the home of the White Crow people."
"Oh." Grisha responded, lowering his head, not knowing what he was thinking. After a long time, a somewhat lost voice came: "But everyone in the town is my friend. I'm afraid they will be bullied after I leave. I want to help my friends."
"Sister Nina, Aunt Padme, Uncle Wood, Fla, Rick, and Hela, they are all very kind to me. White Crow taught us not to forget. I don't want my friends to disappear."
He gripped the bow on his back solemnly: "I will protect my friends. I will not leave here."
"you"
Gwen shuddered, feeling like something was stuck in her throat, unable to swallow or speak.
"Gwen, it's time to go. Sledding Castle is ahead." Isaac shouted from the front.
Gwen took a deep breath, said nothing more, looked deeply at Grisha, and urged his horse forward.
The war is about to begin.
Most of the resistance soldiers were infantrymen. Gwen maintained order as the army advanced. When they approached Sleddingburg, she ordered the soldiers to put on armor, load their guns, and prepare for battle.
The process of this battle had already been discussed, and everything had to be decided quickly. Although the resistance army had an advantage in both combat power and numbers, once the other side reacted and started fighting, things would immediately become extremely troublesome.
Sleddingburg, as its name suggests, is a castle with an outer city area enclosed by walls and an inner castle inside the walls.
That was a proper war fortification. The passages inside the castle were narrow and there were a lot of combat designs. In addition, the resistance army had no idea about the castle and had no experience in siege. If these fifty soldiers really retreated into the castle, the resistance army of several hundred people might not be able to capture it.
If they fail to capture the city, the resistance army's situation will immediately become precarious. The castle is on a high place and can shoot at the city. There may be many secret passages in the castle, which can be used for attack or defense.
Moreover, once the fighting starts, the news can't be concealed. By the time support arrives from other places, we will be caught in the trap.
Therefore, the most important thing in this battle is speed. The resistance army is advancing all the way, and there will be no problem as long as they can quickly control the situation.
But the defenses in Sledding Castle were empty, and there were no elite soldiers at all, let alone defense inside the castle. If everything went well, the battle would be over before they could react.
On the contrary, if the other party reacts, it will be a big trouble.
Gwen calmed himself and drew his sword: "Warriors, follow me and attack! All-out assault!"
The resistance fighters began their charge.
