Chapter 538 The Final Mission
"Captain Hodge"
Hodge waved his hand: "I'm just leaving first. The white fog has closed. This is the last thing we can do."
The conductor gritted his teeth and whispered, "Okay."
The whistle sounded, and the long and short sounds conveyed the message.
Hodge walked towards his men.
"Guys, I have a mission and I need some help!"
"Is it dangerous?" a young man asked with a grin, causing a burst of laughter.
Hodge was the highest commander here, but he did not give direct orders but came over to ask. Everyone had actually guessed what the mission was like.
Hodge also laughed, "It's not dangerous, but you have to be loud. I plan to go to the white fog and look for some people to go with me."
"That's good, we thought we were going to help Miss Gwen change the magazine." The soldiers stood up one after another and then looked at each other.
No one retreated, no one hesitated, and Gwen's machine gun did not stop firing. They had been holding their breath for a long time, wanting to prove Castel's courage in front of this lady from the resistance.
Hodge looked around and found that no one refused, so he just called out the name.
"I'll go in first and shout out whatever I see. Then you go in after my voice fades away and continue to provide additional intelligence. Then you go in, Milo, Lawson, and Khufu. Oh, Lord Ash, please cover for us when the time comes."
If they want to get out of the train, they will inevitably face the waves of bones. They are not afraid of death, but they are worried that the news will not be spread.
"No problem." Ash said solemnly.
Soon, a small team of expeditionary forces walked out of the train. Hodge led the team himself, and Ash followed from a distance behind. His eyes, emitting dim light, occasionally glanced at the nearby monsters.
The white fog has been getting closer. No matter how dense the bullets are, there will always be some white bones that cannot be killed in time. The fog is squeezing inward little by little. It won't be long before they will all perish in the white disaster.
The machine gun on the roof of the car worked hard to clear a path for Hodge and others. They successfully reached the edge of the white fog. Hodge licked his lips, looked at the white fog not far away, gritted his teeth and prepared to rush in.
But the voice of his comrades came from behind.
"team leader!"
"What's wrong?"
"The whistle is sounding again. Is it from outside? Why don't you listen first?"
Hotch nodded, frantically pulling out his notebook and memorizing the whistle.
The long and short whistle sounds conveyed messages in Morse code. Hodge wrote the letters one by one in his notebook and then spelled them into words.
"Don't go in, reinforcements will be here soon!"
"Well, reinforcements. Reinforcements? What reinforcements? They can't get into the white fog again."
"Captain, captain, look!!!" A soldier's distorted scream came from behind.
Hodge was stunned for a moment and looked around. There seemed to be nothing unusual. When he was about to ask something confused, he suddenly felt darkness around him.
There was a huge shadow that blocked out the sun and covered the earth.
He felt something in his heart and slowly raised his head, then his body began to tremble.
With its huge oval body, ferocious teeth, and bloodshot eyes full of cruelty, its appearance is a deterrent to the enemy.
But at this moment, the people of the expeditionary force only felt excited.
The airship, it's Castel's airship! The fog of the White Disaster is like an insurmountable wall, forcing mortals to sigh in despair in front of it, but the airship is above the sky, floating through the white fog! "Damn, why did I forget this?" Hodge's eyes burst into surprise, and Castel's expeditionary forces began to cheer.
The attack of the surrounding bone monsters paused for a moment, and they all looked up, then turned to look at the train and launched an extremely crazy attack! The door of the bomb bay on the airship opened, and the machine gun below had already opened fire.
There was no need for orders now, Hodge's team knew what they should do, they immediately turned around and rushed towards the train, Ash stood up, and six hands fired in all directions to provide cover.
The attack of the bone monsters far exceeded any previous one. They seemed to have discovered that these people wanted to escape, and they rushed forward desperately. The original tide-like continuous charge immediately turned into a tsunami! "These monsters must be commanded by someone, the shit-eating horse-faced fish, sooner or later I will rush into the white fog and drag him out!" Hodge led the soldiers to rush towards the train with difficulty.
There were three airships coming in, one was slowly descending while firing its machine guns, while the other two were dropping bombs continuously from a farther distance.
The killing effect of aerial bombs far exceeds that of machine guns, but it is difficult to accurately control the killing range, so they can only drop bombs on the periphery to reduce the pressure on the expeditionary force.
Soon, the airship came close to the ground and dropped a rope ladder.
The landing of an airship requires a certain hard surface. If not, a safe environment with more cables can also be used to secure it, but none of the conditions can be met here.
If the airship really landed on the ground, it would block the firing range of the machine gun position on the train. It would be very difficult to resist the group of bones now. If the airship was destroyed by the bones, it would be doomed.
"Quick, get on the airship, quick!"
Hodge commanded the soldiers to climb up the rope ladder one by one. The rope ladder had a weight limit. After a team of soldiers climbed up, the people on the airship would pull the ladder up and throw a new ladder down at the same time.
The group of skeletons struggled to advance forward under the roaring machine guns, and soon the dragon breath cannons on the roof started firing - the effective range of this weapon was within a hundred meters.
Fortunately, most of the soldiers had been transported away by rope ladders.
"Gwen, get up there! We don't need you to continue fighting here!"
"No, the group of skeletons on the right can't be defended without me. Your machine gun firepower is far inferior to mine. I have to defend here!"
"You go up first. You can shoot on the airship!"
"No, if I leave for a while the skeleton group will rush over!"
As the number of soldiers decreased, the firepower on the train inevitably weakened. The main attack method of the airship was still dropping bombs, and there were not many machine gun positions. The battle on the ground began to become unsuccessful.
Hodge looked at Gwen anxiously, then looked at the group of bones in the distance.
He knew that what Gwen said was right, but the order he received before he set out was to protect Gwen's safety. If he was any later, he might not be able to get on the airship! "Gwen, listen to me, there are still a lot of explosives in the car. Lord Ash has just thrown them outside in a circle. We will detonate the explosives later and then take the opportunity to get on!"
Gwen glanced at the bones around her and frowned, "It doesn't seem to work."
“We can only try our best!”
