Chapter 563: Add a Cover to Blood Harbor
“How much steel does this take?”
Alvarez raised his head and muttered to himself.
"Oh, you can't think of it, right? I can't think of it either, so I carefully estimated it, and even I couldn't believe the result. You know, the steel used in these infrastructures alone is enough to cover the Blood Harbor."
"This is not a description or a metaphor. It means literally. If we melt the steel and make iron plates, we can cover the entire Blood Harbor. And the thickness is definitely thicker than the plate armor of your knights."
Alvaro stood speechless on the street, the bright sunshine shining on him, the silhouettes of steel pipes falling beside him, he looked up at the sky, imagining that it was a steel sky.
"No, that's impossible. Although there are many gas pipes and they are thick, they shouldn't require so much steel."
"That's because the only thing you can see directly when you look up is the gas pipes. Do you know how many pipes there are under our feet?"
"Feet, feet?" Alvaro was startled and quickly took a few steps back.
"See that round thing on the street over there? That's a manhole cover. You can get in after you open it. Blood Harbor looks huge from above, and the sewers below are densely packed. It is said that a great disaster happened here before, and the ground of the entire Blood Harbor collapsed a lot. When the lord rebuilt it, he also repaired the sewers."
"It is said that the sewers were built completely according to the streets above. The drainage outlets on each street correspond to the pipes below. There are densely packed pipes, for draining rainwater, sewage, steam pipes, and some for transporting special materials. All the pipes are densely packed. Maybe the area below Blood Harbor is even bigger than this city."
Alvaro stared at the ground beneath his feet in a daze. He suddenly had a feeling that he was not standing on the ground, but on top of a building. What he thought was the ground was just the roof.
"Why, why do we need to build so many pipelines?" Alvarez asked stutteringly.
"Of course they have their uses. You know, the sea next to us is called the Ocean of Storms. It's common for it to rain all day long. Have you ever seen a road full of water?"
"That's not the case. It doesn't rain much in the North, but the cities in my territory are often flooded."
“This rainwater is discharged to the sea through the sewers.”
Alvarez was silent for a moment, then nodded slowly.
"Uncle, besides that, have you noticed that these streets are particularly clean?"
Alvarez really didn't focus on this matter. There were too many shocking things about Blood Harbor. The clean and tidy streets seemed to be a matter of course, just like the Kingdom of God in the Holy Scriptures would not be littered with feces and garbage. He just thought it was normal, but the more he thought about it, the more frightened he became.
"You mean the dirt?"
"Yes, there are special sewage pipes, and there are people who clean them regularly to ensure the cleanliness of the streets."
Alvaro wanted to argue, as he had just seen a horse-drawn carriage on the street - the residents' feces could be cleaned up by someone, but the livestock could not control their excretion, so there couldn't be someone to clean up after them, right?
He turned his head and saw that most of the horses had a bag hanging on their buttocks.
"Manure bags. If livestock entering Blood Harbor do not have manure bags attached, they will need to pay a fine for cleaning. There are many other things like this."
"Everything you see, this industrial miracle called Blood Harbor, was not created by gods, nor is it from the otherworldly world. It was created by ordinary mortals like you and me with our own hands."
"It really exists in this world. All miracles are built by little changes. They are not castles in the air. It's just that we have been lying in the mud for too long. When we see people standing up, we think they are gods."
Alvarez was stunned.
A few blocks away, on the railroad tracks, a steam locomotive roared past like a rampaging steel behemoth, but looking closely, inside the front of the locomotive was a fireman smoking a pipe, shoveling coal into the boiler, the driver blowing the whistle, and the engineer checking the pipes.
On the platform not far away, the switchman pulled the control lever, then raised the flag in his hand and waved it towards the platform. People were coming in and out of the concrete buildings.
It is one worker after another who keeps this sophisticated and complex city running. When these ordinary mortals stand together, they form the indescribable industrial behemoth.
Alvarez was trembling all over. He seemed to have returned to his childhood when he sneaked out of the castle for the first time and looked up to see the Milky Way and the sky filled with stars.
These grand and bizarre creations were actually made by mortals like him?
For some reason, he was more afraid of mortals than gods at this moment.
He yelled, dropped his cane, turned and ran. Hunter was stunned for a moment before he reacted and hurriedly chased after him along the street.
As a scholar, Hunter had very poor physical fitness, but fortunately his uncle was also a rival of equal strength. Even if his uncle ran around wildly with his fat body, he could not shake off Hunter who was chasing behind him.
Until the two of them arrived at the seaside at the pier.
"No! Uncle! No!" Hunter shouted, panting, but Alvarez ignored him and ran straight forward. Hunter only saw a large and exaggerated splash of water.
"Uncle, uncle!"
Hunter rushed to the beach and almost fell down. He waved his hands several times before he could barely keep his balance. He staggered a few steps and sat down on the ground.
He quickly climbed to the beach using his hands and feet, wailing and shouting, "Uncle! Someone, someone come and save my uncle! He has fallen into the sea!"
After a moment, a look of joy appeared on his face. A dark shadow was slowly rising from the sea, but soon his smile froze.
That shadow is too big.
Wow!
A ball of water exploded, and the huge existence that suddenly rushed out scared Hunter. When he looked carefully, he found that it was a golden-haired banshee.
The banshee glared at Hunter and picked up Alvarez in her hand.
"A fine of five hundred rios for littering!"
"Oh, ok, okay. How much?!"
"Five thousand Leo!" Looking at Hunter with wide eyes, Nini smiled with satisfaction, "Unless you two accept my interview!"
"Okay! No problem!" Hunter agreed immediately and then looked up at his uncle.
Alvarez was pulled out as soon as he fell into the water. He didn't even have time to choke on the water and still looked dazed.
"He is the Archduke of Alvarez? Why doesn't he look very smart? Why don't we just throw him into the sea? What's the use of him?"
“He, he is very rich.”
