Chapter 830 Nora on the Front Lines
"Nora! You're back! Lady Helena is looking for you!"
A priest from the Silent Church, clad in plate armor, waved at a self-propelled artillery piece, while the surrounding crowd seemed unfazed.
The artillery piece had clearly just come from the battlefield; there were still traces of an explosion on its armor plating.
The fighting on the front lines is not very intense now; apart from a few areas, the intensity is very low.
Nora's side is that small part.
With the advent of armored weapons such as self-propelled artillery and steam tanks, the role of soldiers on the battlefield gradually diminished, and the two sides gradually evolved into armored duels without engaging in large-scale combat.
Steam tanks have thick armor that can withstand Castells' heavy machine guns and grenades. Although the armor of self-propelled artillery is much weaker, the Empire's firearms are generally a level below.
The infantry on both sides couldn't break through the defenses, and the battle became strange.
Galahad has been reminiscing lately, saying that when he was a child, he often heard older knights talk about duels between knights on the battlefield, which disappeared after the advent of muskets.
Now the two sides have started another knightly duel, only this time the horses they're riding have been replaced by steam tanks and self-propelled cannons.
Times change so fast; before you know it, you've gone through a whole cycle.
Nora didn't have many feelings; she just felt good about having her body back.
Although it is no longer made of flesh and blood and is not as agile, it is still good to be able to charge into battle.
And cannons are much better than flails, aren't they?
Nora had previously engraved the Scriptures of the Silent Church on the hammerhead of the flail so that she could preach the doctrine while striking it.
Now she also engraves sacred texts all over the shells.
In the past, we used flails to force doctrines in; now we use cannonballs to blast them out. In terms of the result, there is no difference.
It also fits the fighting and missionary style of the priests of the Silent Church.
However, recently some unhealthy trends have emerged in the church, with priests frequently spreading fallacies such as "the greater the amount of preaching, the better" and "the larger the caliber, the more devout."
It seems that the Imperial Truth Guardians' worship of quantity has not only failed to be cured, but has actually become contagious.
However, this doesn't seem to be a bad thing; at least the fighting spirit of the Silent Church priests is rising day by day.
Nora smiled and shook her head as she watched the priests arguing heatedly with Galahad about queuing up to go to the battlefield.
I don't know what the church will look like in the future, but it seems fine as it is now.
Nora handed the artillery over to the maintenance team in charge of logistics, then skipped and hopped away to her dormitory.
Actually, it was Chloe who taught her this hopping and skipping method. Chloe had even less of her body left; at least Nora had her limbs amputated from the neck down, while Chloe was practically a baby.
In order to be able to move around and to avoid being hung on the church roof all day, Chloe devised this method of movement.
Simply put, it means using willpower to manipulate the Sea of Ignorance, and then using the movement of the spirit within the Sea of Ignorance to propel the physical body in the real world. In other words, it means using extraordinary power to propel oneself.
This isn't the actual body hitting the ground and bouncing up, so Nora doesn't need to worry about hitting her head and getting a headache.
Nora shoved the key from her mouth into the lock while jumping and pushed open the dormitory door.
It was a very neat and clean room, in the simple style that Nora liked, with a small pot of flowers on the windowsill.
The flower was just a wildflower that could be found anywhere in the North, and Nora found it stuck to her car when she came down from the battlefield somewhere.
She planted the flower in the soil, and it actually survived, adding a touch of warmth to her simple house.
Nora looked up at the flowers, struggled to pick up the watering can and watered them, then changed her clothes and left the dormitory.
— Changing clothes was nothing more than changing a hair clip. Nora was a meticulous person. Even though she only had her head left, she still wanted to live life seriously. With this in mind, she would take a shower and change her clothes every time she came off the battlefield before greeting others.
Nora locked the door and left the dormitory, heading towards Helena's room.
Helena was the oldest person in the sanctuary besides Ignati. Although she looked only in her twenties or thirties, Nora could always sense a kind of compassion in her.
Coincidentally, before I even got there, I ran into Helena in the corridor. She was wearing casual clothes and carrying a food box.
"Nora?"
"Lady Helena, you wanted to see me?"
"Yes, that's right. You're here right now. You just came down from the battlefield, didn't you?"
"Yes, the recent battles have become somewhat boring, and the Papacy's offensive has been rather perfunctory."
"We can talk about those things later. Let's go back to Castel first."
"Back to Castel? Is something wrong?"
"Yes, it won't take too much time, don't worry about your flowers."
Nora was a little embarrassed: "How...how did you know I grew flowers?"
“I saw it by your window, a really cute little flower.” Helena walked over, hugged Nora to her chest, and ruffled her white hair. “Perfect timing, I’ll take you back.”
"Hmm, okay." Nora's voice was a little muffled; to be honest, she didn't really like Helena holding her.
It would feel rather stuffy; it's not as comfortable as being held by Gwen.
The two boarded the train, and Nora realized that she still didn't know what she was supposed to do there.
I was so focused on the flowers that I forgot to ask.
"Did the lord summon me?"
"Hmm, more or less," Helena said somewhat vaguely. "You'll see when you get there."
Although she was curious, Nora didn't ask and obediently followed Helena all the way back to Castel.
The train from the front lines of Tiss to the rear is much faster than the one in the North. This line passes through the entire Tiss region, and both maintenance and infrastructure construction are much simpler than crossing the North Tundra.
As Nora looked out the window, she felt a pang of emotion. It hadn't been long since she left, yet so many new buildings had appeared.
This land is truly changing rapidly, from towering concrete buildings and massive steel machines to the glittering hair clip on her head, all are creations of Castel.
As Castel grew larger and more complex, she would occasionally feel lost and fearful, worried that she was moving too slowly and would be left behind by the rapidly advancing Castel.
Fortunately, she had many companions by her side. Their presence gave Nora the courage to face everything, and she was willing to fight on the battlefield for the people behind her.
"Where are we going? To Hughes's office?"
"No, we'll go to your house."
Hearing Helena's answer, Nora was taken aback. She wanted to ask more questions, but Helena just chuckled and hugged her even tighter.
