Chapter 792 Nora's Battlefield

Chapter 792 Nora's Battlefield

In the wind and snow, Nora tightened her collar and pressed her head further into her clothes.

Her armor was soaked with the snow and wind of the North, sticking to her cotton lining and impossible to separate.

Nora turned her head to look at Grisha next to her; the boy was drowsy, his head nodding.

The two of them are keeping watch tonight.

Nora stirred the fire in front of her, and the flickering flames grew a little stronger, temporarily dispelling the cold wind.

Suddenly, she would recall her days in Castel, where she didn't have to wear heavy cotton clothes, and the scales of the banshees shimmered in the sunlight, like the colorful sand and pebbles at the bottom of the Kohler River.

The banshees were wicked; they always liked to drag her into playing football. Gwen would come and chase them away, then hug her and find a bench where they would lie together, reading the newspaper she had stolen from Nini.

The sea breeze was so refreshing that I fell asleep on the chair, dreaming of songs from the southern sea.

Nora opened her eyes; her eyelashes were covered in frost, and snowflakes were being swept toward her face by the cold wind.

This is the North.

Nora's eyes dimmed slightly, then slowly hardened again.

This is her hometown, the hometown she left and eventually returned to; she hates it, yet loves it.

This place holds too many memories for her; the wind and snow have long since seeped into her flesh and blood, into her soul. She is inseparable from this land.

The wind and snow may bury the past, but the sanctuary will never forget.

The sanctuary is gone, the past is only a memory, and their home is now just ruins.

but.

Castel was once a deserted island, but now it is a prosperous place. The sanctuary is gone, but the buried ones remain. The homeland is now just ruins, but the people of the Bone Raven are still here.

Nora's expression gradually hardened.

She will build this place into the next Castel.

Grisha shifted to the side, his prosthetic leg landing on the frozen ground with a cold echo.

Grisha was the child she had personally rescued. Under the White Calamity, the North was full of these neglected orphans. They were like wild grass on the tundra, dying silently when the snow fell, and reappearing on the earth when the weather warmed up.

Nora pursed her lips, wishing the North would be free from hardship.

It shouldn't be long. It is said that Alexei built a huge energy tower in the Cataclysmic Prison, which burns day and night to provide heating for the people living there.

People no longer need to suffer from hunger and cold; industry is transforming this desolate land.

Future generations of children will no longer have to go to the battlefield, nor will they freeze to death in the snow.

Thinking about this, Nora felt that the cold wind wasn't so unbearable after all.

Suddenly, a little light appeared in the tent not far away. A figure lifted the curtain, and the snow covering it slid down with a rustling sound.

Nora turned her head and saw only the figure of a girl, who looked somewhat familiar. Before she could see anything more, she was lifted up.

"Lady Nora, Lady Nora!" Gwen excitedly lifted Nora and spun her around in the air a few times.

Nora felt a little dizzy from being shaken around. When they stopped, she found Gwen holding her above her head, her big eyes looking at her.

Gwen looked up and met Nora's gaze. The moonlight fell on her white hair, like a wisp of mist.

Snowflakes drifted silently down from the sky, landing on Nora's face along with the tips of her hair, carrying a touch of coolness and tickling her.

"So beautiful!"

She sighed softly, unconsciously, and exhaled a puff of mist.

"What's wrong?" Nora's voice rang out, as calm as ever, like a solid shield. Gwen felt a warmth in her heart, and after a moment of surprise, she quickly spoke up.

"Ah! Good news, Lady Nora! We're going back to Castel!"

Nora blinked in confusion.

"I've heard that evil weapons have appeared in that corrupt church, Isabella's new army has suffered setbacks, and Castel has summoned us back to fight!"

"Combat?" Nora's expression darkened slightly, and she pursed her lips.

Now all she has left is her head. Headless Nora might still be able to charge into battle, but she can only watch from the rear.

She was a soldier, but she could never return to the battlefield.

Seeing Nora's appearance, Gwen panicked and said, "Wait, Lady Nora, I mean, you can go to the battlefield too."

"Are you taking me again?" Nora chuckled self-deprecatingly. "No need. I'll only cause you trouble. I'll be content to stay here in the North and keep watch for everyone."

“No.” Gwen’s voice became excited again. “I forgot to mention, Mr. Richard has created a new weapon that even superhumans can use!”

"Weapons?" Nora was a little confused. How could she possibly use weapons in her current state?

She initially thought this was yet another cruel joke from Gwen, but seeing how genuinely happy Gwen seemed, she softened a little.

If joking about yourself can make Gwen happy, then it's probably somewhat effective.

Gwen, oblivious to the hesitation in Nora's expression, happily picked Nora up and ran off into the distance: "I heard it's some kind of self-propelled cannon, and superhumans can go inside it!"

"Get inside the cannon?"

"Yes, no, it's not about going inside the cannon barrel, it's about manipulating the cannon and making it move on its own!"

"Just like driving a steam locomotive, we're taking artillery to the battlefield!"

"Lady Nora, I think it suits you perfectly. Didn't you always want to ride a horse to the battlefield? Now you have it! With a steel horse, you can go forward again!"

Nora was stunned, then her eyes widened, her lips trembled as if she wanted to laugh, but she seemed too unfamiliar with the expression to speak and froze.

Finally, she returned to her expressionless state, but Gwen noticed that her lips were clearly pursed tightly.

Gwen quickened her pace, like a shadow leaping through the snowy night, leading Nora forward.

Snowflakes swirled on her face. Nora squinted slightly, seeing only a brightly lit area ahead. Accompanied by the sound of train whistles, she finally realized it was a train platform.

“We’ll go to Castel and find you a horse made of steel to carry Lady Nora to the battlefield. I’ll be your battle priest and your stoker, feeding you fuel and cannonballs. We’ll charge into battle together! We’ll kill that evil pope together!” Gwen said excitedly.

In the past, Nora would have rolled her eyes and scolded Gwen for watching such nonsense, saying that the plot of this kind of chivalric romance novel was a bit old-fashioned.

But today, when this clichéd scenario happened to her, she only felt a burning passion in her heart.

She was going back to her battlefield, just like the characters in the novel, to fight a never-ending war and slay the evil that could never be eradicated.

The only difference is that she will have a warhorse made of steel.
