Chapter 19 Eating

On the second day of the Lunar New Year, the Hua family does not have to visit relatives.

Hua Youcai's wife left early and cut off all ties with that place.

Every Chinese New Year, I envy my brothers when they accompany their wives back to their parents’ home.

Not only did he have no relatives to visit, but his daughter and son also envied other children who got to live with their grandmother.

Children in rural areas like to visit relatives because they can eat delicious food and get lucky money.

When his daughter and son were young, he took them to visit his brothers' homes...

The village is close, just a few steps away, and the sense of ritual of visiting relatives is no less.

In return, he also asked his brothers to come to his house for a meal on a certain day to have some fun.

At around ten o'clock in the morning, when Hua Youcai was wondering whether to have cabbage or radish for lunch, someone knocked on the Hua family's door.

"Uncle, are you home?"

Hua Fangfang threw down the comic book in her hand and was the first to get down and put on her shoes. "I'll go open the door!"

Without waiting for his father to reply, everyone arrived in the yard.

Hua Yuanyuan was also curious about who it was, so she went downstairs and looked out through the window. It was a man in military uniform, but she didn't recognize him.

She only knew three people in military uniforms: Zhazha, Hao Li, and Political Commissar Liu.

Hua Youcai hurried out to see what was going on.

Zhang Xiangnan lost the game of rock-paper-scissors and hammer-jack, so he had to come over to call for help.

The military dependents in the village are having a meal together today.

We all live far away from home, so there is no need to visit relatives and the New Year is just a lively occasion.

They also specially picked the time to exchange time with their comrades and get together.

After discussing whether to invite the Hua family or not, everyone decided to come anyway.

When the Hua family rented the house, they had not yet divorced Captain Wang.

Captain Wang was still on home leave, but the Hua family came over.

If they were to invite someone, they would guess that the other person might not come, so it would be better if they refused, as it would not be impolite for them.

They were wrong. When Hua Youcai heard that they were going to have dinner with military families, he was so happy that he patted his butt and followed them.

Zhang Xiangnan...well, he still has some face.

Hua Fangfang returned to the room listlessly and complained to her sister, "Sister, look at Dad. He just left when he was called to eat, without even asking us."

"You want to go?"

"You can go."

"I don't want to go..."

"Sister, Dad isn't home to eat, let's make something delicious!"

Hua Yuanyuan..., what a rip-off!

"Okay, let's make something delicious."

Chinese New Year is all about eating, drinking and connecting with relatives and friends.

The brother and sister worked together to make shredded radish, fried minced meat and flour to make radish cakes.

In the big iron pan, small pancakes the size of a palm are fried on both sides until golden brown and then taken out of the pan.

They made more each time and the two of them made a full pot.

I also made a stewed cabbage and heated up the steamed buns and leftover dumplings.

Hua Youcai came to Zhang Xiangnan's house, and there were quite a lot of people there.

There were men, women, and several children. It was really lively.

There is another familiar face here, Captain Hao Li.

Zhang Xiangnan's family rented two rooms in the north wing, with a kitchen outside and a large kang inside. The rent was also two yuan.

The rent here is basically at this price. There are big differences between houses, but the rent difference is not that big.

An example is the new house with a big yard that Hua Yuanyuan rented for 15 yuan.

The house had been rented out for a long time but couldn't be rented out, and then I ran into Hua Yuanyuan, the big boss.

Zhang Xiangnan, Fang Dayong, Liu Jianye and Wang Fugui all have wives who rent houses in the village. Li Xian's wife lives in his hometown, and Hao Li has no wife.

Hua Youcai sat on the kang, drinking tea and listening to everyone talking, feeling very comfortable.

These children are so precious to me. My daughter has been married for five years and still has no children. This is the bad thing about marrying a soldier.

It was past eleven o'clock and the food outside was almost ready and the dishes were served one after another.

Hua Youcai went to the toilet and returned home.

I just followed them happily. I couldn't go empty-handed during the New Year, so I remembered to go home and get some.

They are very close, with only a row of houses in between.

The brother and sister had just set the table and were getting ready to eat when they heard their father calling at the door.

Hua Fangfang went out to open the door for her father, "Dad, why are you back? Don't they provide food?"

"Come back to get something. Have you eaten?"

"I'm getting ready to eat. I fried some radish cakes and stewed some Chinese cabbage. They're so delicious."

Hua Fangfang is showing off.

After Hua Youcai tasted it, he asked his son to get a basin and serve him some.

Hua Yuanyuan..., this is something she added with her own personal touch.

"Dad, don't take the vegetables. The radishes and cabbages are not good enough. They have them at home. Take a bag of fried meat. This is good."

What my daughter said makes sense. You can take the fried meat, and you have to take the vegetables as well.

Hua Youcai selfishly wanted them to taste his daughter's cooking skills, and found that both the cabbage and radish were delicious.

If you don’t consider your daughter’s lifelong affairs now, you will have to consider them in the future.

When my daughter wants to find someone, Captain Hao and his men can also ask if there is anyone suitable among their comrades.

Hua Youcai doesn't know that his daughter has already become famous. She is such a cruel woman that he wants to stay away from her.

"Girl, I'll take them all. There are so many people."

Hua Yuanyuan..., "Dad, the food I cooked is really not tasty."

"It's okay. If they don't want to eat it, I'll bring it back."

Hua Yuanyuan watched her father carry a full pot of vegetables, with cabbage at the bottom and radish cakes on top, all of which were puffy.

He also had a cloth bag on his arm, which contained melon seeds, peanuts, candies, and half a bag of fried meat, which weighed about two kilograms.

Hua Yuanyuan, who was not stopped, shouted in the yard, "Dad, you've lost a lot of money by eating this meal."
