Chapter 98 Never Lost the Chain

After taking an overnight train, we arrived at around six in the morning.

When Hao Li bought the ticket, Hua Yuanyuan forgot to ask him to buy a sleeper berth, so he could only sit.

The seats on the green train are so hard that my butt is sore after sitting on them all night.

She slept in a daze and felt so uncomfortable.

Sometimes she lay on Hao Li's legs, sometimes she rested her head on his shoulders, sometimes she lay in front of him, sometimes Hao Li stood and let her lie down to sleep...

Hao Li remained vigilant throughout the night to ensure that his wife could sleep peacefully.

The train is quite chaotic. On the night train, some people wait until people fall asleep before stealing their things.

When everyone was in a daze, someone was walking back and forth in the carriage. When he came to Hao Li and Hua Yuanyuan, before he could think of anything, he met Hao Li's eyes and immediately pretended that nothing was wrong and left quickly.

The look in his eyes was chilly, and you could tell at first glance that he was not someone to be trifled with.

Hao Li was not wearing a military uniform and had no military insignia on his body.

His wife was sleeping, so he had to stay by her side and could only scare these people away with his eyes.

Hua Yuanyuan has a bad habit: she can’t eat when she’s outside and gets full after just a few bites.

I didn't eat anything on the train. I wasn't hungry, so I just drank a few sips of water.

Hao Li ate all the buns that he brought from home.

Hua Yuanyuan woke up at around four o'clock and let Hao Li sleep for a while.

After Hao Li returned home, perhaps he no longer thought about those things, or perhaps he felt more at ease with his wife. He slept well these past few days and did not have nightmares anymore.

I got off the bus at my stop and was greeted by the fresh air, which smelled so good!

There were many people in the carriage, and the smell was unbearable even with the windows open.

It’s hard to describe the specific smell, it’s an indescribable smell formed by a mixture of multiple smells.

There were stalls selling breakfast around Lincheng Railway Station, so the two had breakfast first.

The tofu pudding here is very local in style. It is made with chicken soup and topped with chopped green onions, coriander and chili peppers. It is quite delicious.

Hua Yuanyuan mostly eats thick stews, as she can’t get used to the sweet taste of the south.

The accompanying fire-baked food is also delicious.

There are meat fillings and vegetarian fillings. The fillings are not much, but they have a unique flavor.

His wife's bright eyes were full of surprise, and Hao Li knew that she liked it.

"Hao Li, it's delicious."

"Eat more."

My wife only ate well yesterday morning, but she didn't eat much at noon or in the evening.

He knew his wife's appetite. She could eat a big steamed bun, and that was after she ate a lot of vegetables.

My wife said she didn’t know why, but she wasn’t hungry when she was outside.

The food was just right for her appetite, so Hua Yuanyuan ate five steamed buns and a bowl of tofu pudding in one go. Her stomach was so bloated that she started burping.

Hao Li ate ten, and the other two packed up twenty to take away.

The meal they had was enough for dozens of people, and made the boss and his wife so happy that they couldn't stop smiling.

Most people just eat a bowl of tofu pudding on a steamed bun to fill their stomachs, and few are willing to eat it to their heart's content and feel reluctant to do so.

After eating and drinking, I strolled to the ticket window of the train station to buy the return ticket. There were not many people in front of me, and the tickets were not sold yet at the appointed time.

The two were waiting in line when a scalper came over to sell tickets and wandered around the ticket queue.

Hua Yuanyuan had forgotten about this and decided to just buy it directly from the scalper even if she paid more. It saved her trouble.

I heard that tickets are hard to buy. If I can’t buy one today, I’ll have to come again tomorrow. What a hassle.

He turned his head, gave Hao Li a look, and pointed at the person in front.

Hao Li lowered his head and leaned close to his wife's ear, "Wife, if we can't buy it later, let's ask."

"Well, if you can buy a sleeper, buy one."

"good."

Ticket sales started at seven o'clock, and the entire ticket hall suddenly became lively.

The people at the ticket window were shouting, and the line was getting longer and longer.

It took half an hour to get to these few people.

Hao Li showed his ID and bought two sleeper tickets.

Hua Yuanyuan was watching next to them. The staff inside carefully checked their IDs and looked at them both a few times. Then Hao Li said, "Go home to visit your relatives."

She guessed that it might be because of some kind of priority for military personnel, but she was not sure if there were any clear regulations now.

Even if there is no explicit regulation, it is a common practice.

Otherwise, it would be difficult for the soldiers to return home because they could not buy train tickets and it would waste time.

Or if you can't return to the team on time because you can't buy a ticket, that would be a joke.

Still a bad joke.

The station is right in front of the square. It takes an hour and a half by car to reach Taoyuan Village, Hao Li’s hometown.

After Hao Li bought a train ticket and confirmed his return time, he sent a telegram to tell his family.

This vacation was not in the plan, and my wife's decision on whether to go back home depends on his time.

Along the way, Hua Yuanyuan kept looking out the window. After leaving the city, they soon arrived at a county town, and ahead were fields of crops.

There are trees planted on both sides of the road. The car is driving on this tree-lined road with the windows open. The breeze blows in, and Hua Yuanyuan feels quite comfortable sitting by the window.

When we got off at the station, we saw a bullock cart parked next to it.

As soon as they got out of the car, the other party stared at them.

"Sister, brother-in-law, why are you here?"

The visitors were Hao Li's eldest sister and her family. They were going back to their mother's home after their brother came back, so they calculated the time and waited at the station.

Otherwise, my younger brother and sister-in-law would have to walk back two or three miles.

"I came by to pick you up so we don't have to walk back in such a hot day. This is Yuanyuan, she's really pretty."

Hao Li's elder sister, Hao Qin, held Hua Yuanyuan's hand enthusiastically, her eyes full of surprise. They had only seen the photo of the third brother's wife and got married. She was even prettier in person than in the photo.
