Chapter 32 Tulip Bubble 1

In the evening, Christie sat at the dining table and waited quietly.

Time passed by, but the person she wanted to see didn't show up. Christie couldn't help but feel disappointed.

"Miss," the servant advised softly, "The master has been very busy these days and comes home very late every day. You should eat first."

Seeing that it was getting dark, Christie no longer insisted, "Prepare dinner."

"Yes." The servant bowed and retreated.

Christie is sixteen years old this year, a blooming age. She held her cheek with a distressed look on her face, "What has Dad been busy with recently? I haven't seen him for many days..."

"He's going bankrupt." A female voice sounded faintly.

Christie was slightly startled.

Following the sound, he saw a man in a suit appear out of nowhere on the dining table. He was looking at him seriously. "My name is Yun Luo, and I'm here to help."

Christie has an indescribable love for dolls. She was not afraid of the sudden appearance of the little man in a suit, but was puzzled, "How could my family go bankrupt for no reason when they have money?"

Yun Luo answered seriously, "Because he made the wrong decision."

"A friend of mine wants to borrow money from the bank and needs a guarantor. Your father Kane couldn't save face, so he agreed to help."

"He thought it was just a simple matter of signing his name, but his friend disappeared without a trace after his business failed. The bank couldn't find the borrower and asked the guarantor to pay the debt on his behalf."

Christie let out a cry of surprise. The next second, she realized that it was impolite and quickly covered her mouth.

After calming herself down, she asked, "Others borrowed money and didn't pay it back, so why should my father pay it back? This is not fair!"

Yun Luo: "You are wrong, this is legal."

Yun Luo: "The Guarantee Law stipulates that when the debtor fails to perform the debt, the guarantor must perform the debt in accordance with the agreement and bear the responsibility."

Yun Luo: "It's just that when others asked him to be a guarantor, he signed it without caring."

Footsteps were heard.

Servants carried dishes from far away.

Yun Luo: "If you don't believe it, you can check the relevant laws yourself."

As soon as he finished speaking, the man in the suit slowly disappeared.

Christie bit her lip, showing a hint of uneasiness.

**

As a lady from a wealthy family, Christie did not need to look for the documents herself, she only needed to call the housekeeper to ask questions.

“If the debtor runs away, does the guarantor need to bear joint and several liability?”

As soon as the question was raised, the housekeeper immediately panicked and asked, "Miss, how did you know about this?!"

Although Christie was young, she was not stupid. Seeing the housekeeper's reaction, her heart sank, "Did Dad really guarantee someone?"

The butler lowered his head and did not answer. After a long while, he said, "Don't worry about this matter. The master will take care of it."

Having said that, he left the room without waiting for Christie to ask further questions.

"I haven't seen him for several days. It seems that his condition is not good." Christie sat on the sofa and couldn't help worrying.

After thinking for a while, she called the system, "Yunluo, are you there?"

The little man in a suit suddenly appeared at hand, "I'm here."

"Have you found the guy who owes you money?" she asked.

Yun Luo shook his head and said regretfully, "I don't know where he went."

"In addition," the man in the suit added, "even if the person is caught, if he is unable to repay the debt, the guarantor will have to bear the remaining responsibility."

"What should I do?" Christie was extremely anxious. "Is there any way to clear myself of the matter?"

Yun Luo: "I was present in person when the loan was taken out and signed in person. I can't get rid of the responsibility no matter what."

Yun Luo: "This is the price you have to pay for signing casually."

Christie was confused. She wanted to help her father out of his predicament, but she didn't know what she could do.

After a moment of silence, she asked, "If I fulfill my responsibility and pay it back...how much will it cost?"

Yun Luo: "After paying the bill, the host family will be on the verge of bankruptcy."

Just by signing her name, she would lose everything she had.

Christie clenched her fists, but her shoulders shook uncontrollably and she looked very scared.

She pretended to be calm and said, "You said you were here to help, so tell me, what should we do now?"

Yun Luo: "The matter is done. The guarantor's affairs cannot be reversed. It is only a matter of time before we are on the verge of bankruptcy."

Yun Luo: "But after bankruptcy, you can seize the opportunity to make a comeback."

Yun Luo: "Right now, the host has a very good investment opportunity in front of him."

Christie was like a drowning person grasping at the last straw. She couldn't wait to ask, "What is it?"

"Tulips." Yun Luo announced the answer.

Christie was stunned.

Christie had heard of tulips.

This flower has a noble and elegant color and shape and is very popular among people. Recently, some new varieties have been cultivated and I heard that more people are chasing after them.

Christie never imagined that the hope of her family's rise would rest on little Tulip.

"What should I do?" she asked.

Yun Luo: "Sell the jewelry."

Yun Luo: "Buy tulip bulbs."

Yun Luo: "I want a piece of land from your father for planting."

Christie's father Kane is a farmer who owns a large piece of land, but it is hard to say how much assets he will have left after paying off his debts.

Selling jewelry to buy tulip bulbs for planting? That's ridiculous!

Christie found it hard to accept for a moment.

Seeing the struggle on the host's face, Yun Luo reminded, "If you plan to adopt the advice, act quickly."

"Let me think about it." Christie's expression was indescribably solemn.

**

Before making a decision, Christie sent someone out to inquire about the news.

Within a few days, first-hand information about tulips was placed on the desk.

Christie picked up the document and read it carefully.

First, she looked at the source report. Tulips were introduced only recently and in very limited quantities, so they were expensive.

Secondly, there is the evaluation report of tulips by the upper class. Recently, wearing a tulip on a dress has become the most popular clothing combination.

It is undoubtedly a very prestigious thing to own the newest and rarest varieties.

Third, long before her, people had traded jewelry for tulip bulbs.

Seeing that tulips were sought after by countless people, Christie felt a little relieved - tulip bulbs were a bit expensive, but perhaps the investment risk was not high.

Buy bulbs this year and plant them, then harvest and sell tulips next year, and you might just make a killing!

The more Christie thought about it, the more excited she became, and she couldn't wait to take action.

**

During dinner, my father, whom I hadn't seen for a long time, finally appeared at the table.

Christie was shocked when they met. After not seeing her father for more than ten days, he looked ten years older, with a tired look on his face.

"Dad, is this a tough problem?" Christie asked tentatively.

Kane ate in silence for a long time before saying, "Dad is sorry..."

An autograph can easily ruin a wealthy family. Heaven and hell are only a thought away.

Yun Luo said, "There's no way to get rid of this." So his father really had no way to get out.

The system tells the truth and does not lie.

Thinking of this, Christie plucked up the courage and said, "Dad, I want a piece of land, and I also need a gardener who is proficient in gardening."

"I'll be ready." Kane didn't ask his daughter what she was going to do. He agreed without hesitation, wanting to make his daughter happy in the few abundant days she had.

Christie clenched her fists and made up her mind. She must seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change the status quo in one fell swoop!

**

Christie had heard that tulip bulbs were expensive, but when she actually bought them, she was still shocked when she heard the price.

The reason is simple: compared with other flowers, the price is really shockingly high.

What if tulips are grown next year and the price drops?

Christie felt a little worried.

The servant inquired, "Miss, are you still buying bulbs?"

Tulips are usually planted without buying seeds, but rather buying bulbs to grow. If the bulbs grow strong and the environment is suitable, they will bloom in the second year.

Christie thought of the despair of losing everything, gritted her teeth, and made up her mind, "Buy it!"

The worst that can happen is that you go bankrupt one day and have nothing.

Anyway, there is not much difference between being on the verge of bankruptcy and being completely bankrupt.

Jewelry does not need to be sold; it can be traded directly for tulip bulbs.

In order to buy more bulbs and expand the planting scale, Christie bought common varieties of tulips.

Even so, she still spent all the jewelry after the purchase.

With a dull pain in her heart, Christie entrusted the new gardener with an important task, "Take good care of it and make sure nothing goes wrong."

The gardener swore and agreed immediately.

After getting ready, Christie asked the system, "I've bought the tulips, what should I do next?"

To this, Yun Luo’s answer was, “Wait.”

Christie didn't understand. "How long do we have to wait? What else can we do in the meantime besides waiting?"

Yun Luo: "I don't know how long I have to wait. Maybe two years, maybe three years, maybe five years."

Yun Luo: "Once the time is right, I will remind you to sell."

Yun Luo: "Don't do anything except wait."

Since the system said so, Christie had no choice but to do it.

**

As the days passed, the issue of the guarantee slowly fermented.

Every once in a while, someone would come home and argue with my father.

Christie couldn't understand the content of the argument, but she could clearly realize that the situation was not good.

First, there were fewer servants to serve. Many were dismissed without reason, saying it was to cut costs.

Secondly, the land owned by my father was decreasing, and the dinner dishes were getting worse day by day.

In addition, the price of tulips fluctuated slightly. It was slightly higher than when I bought it, but even if I sold it, the profit was limited and not enough to pay off all the loans.

Just when Christie was panicking, her father Kane smiled for the first time in a long time and said, "Don't worry too much. It's over for now."

Christie didn't understand, "What do you mean? Don't you have to pay the remaining debt?"

"I still have to pay it back, but after many negotiations, the bank is willing to make an exception and let me repay it in installments over five years," Kane explained.

If the debt was repaid in one lump sum, all the family property that could be sold would have to be sold. When the debt was paid off, the family was left with nothing but the father and daughter.

The five-year installment repayment is different. I have some farms on hand. I plant crops this year and sell the harvest next year. The money earned will be used to repay the loan.

Five years later, the debt was paid off and the farm was still theirs, and they, father and daughter, would not be left with nothing.

Thinking that the problem was about to be solved, Kane was in a good mood and said a few more words, "We have to save money in the past few years. Once the debt is paid off, we will be relieved."

"The worst thing I have ever done in my life was to agree to vouch for my friend without any shame."

"Fortunately, the remedy was timely and no serious mistake was made."

Christie seemed to understand.

But she was still happy to hear that things would not get worse.

She thought to herself that when the tulips bloomed next year, she would be able to sell all the flowers and make a lot of money, and then life would be better again.

Thinking of this, Christie smiled brightly, her eyes full of anticipation.

The author has something to say:

The tulip bubble, also known as the tulip effect, originated from historical events in the Netherlands in the 17th century and is the earliest recorded speculative activity in human history.
