Chapter 48 Mercenaries

The car is moving.

Outside the window, patches of red and blue light appeared in the distance. The light magnified and transformed into a hazy neon light. Within the neon light, the Arasaka Building stood tall, like a giant silently watching the night city below the clouds.

Several tens of minutes later, they drove out of the city.

The Taoist priest relentlessly pursued Pan Tao until mountains of garbage appeared outside the car window. Only then did he pull out a bottle of mineral water from the Delaman taxi and gulp it down.

"Little Peach, you look so beautiful when you smile."

After a few seconds of silence, Lin Feng heard the Taoist's chattering voice again, but this time Pan Tao didn't completely ignore it. She suddenly turned her head and asked with a smile, "Is it really beautiful?"

"Yes, yes!" The Taoist priest looked like a madman, but unexpectedly, at this moment, Pan Tao raised her small hand and hooked it. As soon as the Taoist priest got close, a steel needle emerged from Pan Tao's fingertip and was inserted into the Taoist priest's chin.

"Oh my! What is this? Little Peach, don't play with such dangerous things!" The Taoist was very quick, grabbing Pan Tao's wrist and giving it a pat.

The steel needle at the fingertip gleamed with a bright green light, and upon closer inspection, it also had a barb and a tiny injection port.

Lin Feng shifted his gaze from the steel needles to Pan Tao, whose face was fierce. It was impossible for an ordinary person to have such a prosthetic body implanted.

Given that everyone has subcutaneous armor, this weapon is less effective than a firearm. Furthermore, with various biological circulation and monitoring prosthetics, injecting toxins is far less efficient than using a more destructive weapon.

In the blink of an eye, Pan Tao's fierce gaze turned pitiful as she met the Taoist's eyes: "Is it really dangerous? I think I've been poisoned. Big brother, please help me and suck the poison out, okay?"

"Alright...alright, this humble Taoist is best at helping others..."

The Taoist priest gripped Pan Tao's small hand tightly, seemingly about to open his mouth and suck it up, while Lin Feng noticed that Delaman was gradually slowing down, and the garbage mountain that was moving backward outside was coming to a stop.

Have we arrived?

There was no light on the dark mountain of garbage, and all that was illuminated by the car was a pile of abandoned car skeletons. What did Pan Tao bring them here for?

At this moment, the Taoist priest reached out and pressed Pan Tao's arm down onto the seat, swiftly pulling a monomolecular thread from her elbow.

Pan Tao, having been exposed by the Taoist priest once again, could no longer control her emotions. Coupled with her current shameful posture, she immediately roared, "You damn man, what the hell do you want to do?!"

"Ahem... Is this something I can say?"

Upon hearing this, the Taoist priest's lewd expression clearly betrayed his true feelings, but when he noticed Lin Feng and Pan Tao's simultaneously cold gazes, he obediently shut his mouth.

At this moment, the car came to a complete stop. Pan Tao forcefully pulled herself out of the Taoist priest's hand, kicked open the car door, and climbed out.

Lin Feng stepped down from the other side. Before he could even stand up straight, two dazzlingly dressed cyborgs emerged from the darkness, stepping over the trash on the ground, and stood on either side of Pan Tao.

"You idiot, don't think I don't know. I can tell you my people didn't show up with just a simple message. Who the hell are you trying to fool!"

Hearing the noise, the Taoist priest poked his head out of the carriage. Seeing the two cyborgs, he couldn't help but chuckle and said, "Little Peach, are you sure they can beat me?"

"Damn it, kill him!"

Without Pan Tao's orders, these two hired cyborgs had already taken the plunge, stealing their business, impersonating them to steal customers, and looking down on them. If they didn't kill the Taoist priests, how could they survive in Night City in the future?

"Didi, danger detected, evacuation in progress."

Inside the taxi, Delaman AI sounded an alarm. The car, which had been moving smoothly, accelerated and swerved in a second, throwing the Taoist priest next to the door towards the two enemies.

Lin Feng happened to be right next to the driver's seat as the car fishtailed. He reached out and patted the roof, pretending to pull a piece of gold from his clothes: "Delaman, how much is this piece of gold worth?"

"Sir, the current value of gold is approximately $120 per gram. After scanning, the estimated value of the gold in your hand is in US dollars."

"I'd like to charter the car for ten days. Do you think this piece of gold is enough?" Lin Feng opened the car window and silently tossed the gold onto the driver's seat.

“That’s enough, sir. Delaman Taxi is at your service anytime.” Delaman acted quickly, the car moving forward a short distance before opening the rear door in front of Lin Feng: “Beep beep, I’ll take you away from here.”

"Go wait for me over there," Lin Feng said, refusing Delaman's suggestion.

“Okay, sir.” Delaman started the car again, but after driving less than two meters, a shell exploded right where he had just been, bursting into flames.

Boom!

The explosions erupted around the agile Taoist priest, while Pan Tao behind him roared in fury, "Kill them all! Kill them all, you bastards!!!"

The two mercenaries' heart rates were soaring. They were hired by Pan Tao from "Later Life" and were known as the two closest to being legendary. However, they were now facing a weak little Taoist priest, a Taoist priest who had not undergone any enhancement or modification, and they were unable to defeat him in one blow.

One of them had undergone 90% full-body cybernetic modification, with only his brain and lower body being original parts; the other had 85% compatibility with the S.A.S. cybernetic body, allowing for multiple uses without side effects.

Such a configuration would be enough to place them at the very top of the mercenary pyramid, but they would be utterly powerless against a Taoist.

"Peach, how could you be so cruel!"

The Taoist priest suddenly screamed and stretched out his hand forward, his falling golden hammer stopping the mercenary who was flashing towards him.

Bang!

The earth trembled, the exaggerated vibrations causing the mercenary to sway. The scanning device in his eyes couldn't even penetrate the material of the Golden Hammer, appearing as a blurry black image.

"Damn it!" Another mercenary caught up at this moment. His arms had been modified by the gorilla. He had just put away the cannon barrel on his right arm and grabbed at the Taoist's golden hammer.

Lin Feng guessed that it weighed at least one ton, and if it contained some metals from Taoist magic and fantasy worlds, the value would probably be much higher.

"Huh? Ah?! Uh!"

The mercenary grabbed it with both hands, exerting force three times. The third time, he began to doubt if there was something wrong with his arms. This hammer that had fallen out of nowhere was so heavy? Even a gorilla's arms couldn't lift it?

The Taoist grinned, raised the metal peach wood sword with one hand, and quickly made a hand seal with the other, pointing and grabbing the golden hammer: "Does it have to be this way? Peach, this humble Taoist really doesn't want to resort to violence."

"Use force? I'm not afraid! Neither of you has undergone any reformation, how could you possibly cause trouble?" Pan Tao laughed maniacally, ripping open her cheongsam and pulling a pistol from her inner thigh. Pointing it at the Taoist priest, she shouted, "Come on, I'll teach you a lesson today..."

Bang!

The bullet was fired, and Pan Tao's laughter was cut short before she could finish. The golden hammer, which the mercenary could not lift, flew up rapidly, knocking off the bullet, and flew past her cheek with a bang, bringing with it layers of fierce air waves.

Pan Tao turned around in horror. Behind her, the garbage mountain had been crushed into a pile of wreckage by the sledgehammer. The huge abandoned refrigerator and car had been crushed into iron plates.

"Forehead..."

Three pairs of terrified eyes looked at him, but the Taoist priest's face had calmed down, his previous nonchalant attitude gone, replaced by a chilling aura.

The electronic peach wood sword in his hand rang out, and the spreading electronic pulses swept over the two people in front of him. As a murderous aura appeared out of nowhere, the Taoist priest rolled up his robe, passed through the three of them, grabbed the golden hammer, and swung it in a breathtaking arc in the air, smashing it down at Pan Tao's feet.

boom!

A large section of the ground beneath Pan Tao's feet sank, and half of the Golden Hammer sank into the ground.

The two mercenaries looked somewhat dazed. Pan Tao sat down heavily on the ground, her eyes never leaving the Golden Hammer.

Lin Feng, who was behind them, walked out after the explosion, brushed the black ash off his combat uniform, and looked at the mercenary with hostility.

Chance!

Spirit summoning technique!

Power surged wildly within his body, increasing all attributes by 5. In that instant, his body seemed to be liberated, and his thoughts and body reached an astonishing unity. Without warning, the alchemical dagger stabbed towards the gorilla's arm mercenary.

Sizzle!

The gorilla's large arm blocked the dagger at the last moment, but the fang-like dagger easily pierced through the subcutaneous armor, cutting a shower of sparks across his arm.

What's this...

Before he could even process what was happening, a sudden wave of fear washed over him, and then the dagger was right in front of his eyes.

The satisfying feeling of power after landing a successful blow prompted Lin Feng to quickly check his attributes. The expected multiple breakthroughs of 10 did not materialize; only his agility reached the target.

"Attributes: Stamina 9, Spirit 10, Intelligence 10, Agility 11, Strength 9."

The base agility attribute is 5, and the agility attribute is 7 after wearing combat gear. Now that all attributes are increased by 5, it should be 12, but the panel shows 11.

Despite his doubts, he had already unleashed his second strike, aiming straight at the last mercenary shrouded in fear.

*Snap!* Lin Feng's eyes gleamed as he gripped the dagger and smoothly sliced through a strip of metal from top to bottom.

Crackling sounds filled the air as the mercenary's inner Sianweistein began to operate at full power, his body trembling as he was about to be ejected, when a ghostly hand burrowed into his brain.

The dagger continued to tear apart the opponent's eye socket, and a little bit of brain fluid with a strange smell slowly flowed out along the dagger, ending this brief battle.

"No, wait, I'll tell you, I'll tell you everything!"

The bodies of the two mercenaries fell heavily to the ground. Pan Tao was startled by the sound. She turned around and glanced back, then grabbed the Taoist's arm and started crying.

The Taoist priest's expression turned slightly cold as he slowly put away the golden hammer, a suppressed smile playing on his lips as he raised an eyebrow at Lin Feng.

"I overheard someone talking about this at the bar during the day..."

As Pan Tao spoke, she nestled into the Taoist priest's arms, about to raise her pitiful eyes, when an unknown, icy touch slowly crawled up her spine and gripped her neck.
