Chapter 134 Location of the Starfire Branch

Xia Chuhe carried the corpse on his back, wearing work clothes, and at first glance, he resembled Quasimodo.

If we ignore the two extra legs visible under the work clothes.

During the day, everyone at the fertilizer factory was working at their respective posts. Xia Chuhe went out through the main gate, and no one noticed.

Beyond the fertilizer plant lies a residential area.

The zoning of the Northern Tiger Base is somewhat similar to that of the Rainbow Stone Base. Xia Chuhe removed his human skin mask, changed out of his work clothes, ignored the horrified looks of others, and carried the corpse all the way to the market specially prepared for evolved individuals.

Perhaps because of her strange behavior, someone couldn't stand it and summoned the guards.

"What are you doing? Why are you running around carrying a corpse!"

Xia Chuhe defended himself, saying, "I was waiting for a friend to go sell the corpse together."

The guards said helplessly, "Try to cover it up a bit, it's bothering others."

“The base buys openly and honestly, and I sell openly and honestly. Who doesn’t know about the body recycling center? Whom have I affected?” Xia Chuhe retorted.

The guard's face darkened: "If you're waiting for someone, come with me to the station!"

"Hey, hello, hello, my friend can't speak, I'll take her away right away." The corpse driver arrived just in time, taking the corpse off Xia Chuhe's back to prevent the conflict from escalating.

The guard deliberately fanned himself in front of his nose, winked, and said, "Hmph, watch your step."

"Yes, yes, I will be careful, I will be careful." The corpse driver nodded and bowed.

As soon as they left the residential area, Xia Chuhe sent the address to the corpse-driver, which allowed the two of them to arrive in time.

"Guest, where is my human skin mask?"

Xia Chuhe tossed the human skin mask to the corpse-driver: "Reusing it? Aren't you afraid the system will detect it?"

"Scratching it a bit, next time you can pretend to be someone with facial damage," the corpse-driver chuckled.

Actually, the two corpse-drivers were just about to leave.

This wasn't the first time they'd done this, but none of the customers they'd served had ever returned from the body recovery center, or perhaps they had returned but didn't want to pay the remaining balance.

I've never seen anyone like Xia Chuhe who comes back and still insists on giving me money.

The corpse-transporter asked cautiously, "What about the final payment?"

"What's the rush? You guys go to the station and wait for me. I'm going to the body disposal center," Xia Chuhe said.

The corpse-transporter thought to himself, "Didn't we just come out? Why are we going back in? Could it be that they're trying to skip out on their bill?"

Xia Chuhe dispelled his concerns: "I went through a lot of trouble to get the body out of here, and it's still in your hands. What are you afraid of?"

The corpse-driver thought it made sense, so the two of them went to the station to wait.

Xia Chuhe circled around the entrance of the body disposal area.

A small robot scurried out from the corner, running and tumbling towards Xia Chuhe's side. Just as it was about to grab her leg, it took a step back.

Xia Chuhe looked down and saw that there was still some black clay stuck to his ankle.

She wiped it haphazardly, picked up the little robot, and asked, "All done?"

The robot nodded.

Xia Chuhe brought it to the farm and headed to the station.

"We're going back now," the corpse-driver frantically hinted to Xia Chuhe, indicating the final payment.

Xia Chuhe didn't want to carry the body around: "What's the rush? Help me get the body to the destination, and I'll pay you extra."

The two corpse-drivers exchanged a glance, nodded in unison, and accepted the job.

Xia Chuhe contacted Hu Xue from the cape.

(Anonymous) Sympathetic Farmers: [Address.]

The Queen of Xiliang sent an address near the safe house closest to the Northern Tiger Base, which would take less than an hour to cross via the underground passage.

(Anonymous) Sympathetic Farmers: [One hour.]

The Queen of Xiliang replied after a while: "Okay."

Xia Chuhe passed the coordinates to the corpse driver: "Go here."

The corpse-driver said no problem.

Xia Chuhe retrieved the human skin mask from the corpse driver, as she did not want to reveal her identity to Hu Xue for the time being.

As the staff guided the group to pick up their car, they smiled and reminded them, "There's a cleaning fee for washing the car, which will be deducted from your deposit when you hand it over."

This was the first time Xia Chuhe had ever heard of a cleaning fee for renting a car, but the two corpse-driving men were used to it.

...

The three of them arrived at the location designated by Hu Xue. Just as the corpse driver took the body out of the space, someone came to ask him if he was Min Nong and checked the body.

Apart from the initial injury to the chest and the scraped skin on the back from passing through the life support filter, the body was otherwise intact.

The corpse-driver nodded in agreement, following Xia Chuhe's instructions.

The person who arrived wasn't Hu Xue; it was probably someone she had found who was closest to the North Tiger base. The person tapped on their wristwatch, perhaps to notify Hu Xue.

Sure enough, Xia Chuhe received the news soon.

(Anonymous) Queen of Xiliang: [Thank you. Regarding the clues you requested about Starfire, I only know the location of one branch. It's located between Cape Station and the Lighthouse area, passing through Cape Trading Market, Heavenly God Temple, Dream City, and Villain Valley. There's also a section between Villain Valley and the Lighthouse that you'll need to locate yourself.]

(Anonymous) Queen of Xiliang: [Also, a friendly reminder: there's a huge dungeon along this road, known as the Lost Mechanical City. If you're going to find Starfire, be careful of the dungeon along the way.]

(Anonymous) Sympathetic Farmers: [Thank you.]

Sending failed!

! (Anonymous) The Queen of Xiliang's identity card has been cancelled.

Xia Chuhe: "..."

That's quick on the uptake; that woman is ruthless, using you and then discarding you.

Because he still needed to keep the anonymous post seeking clues, Xia Chuhe did not delete the identity of "Sympathetic Farmer".

Xia Chuhe transferred 51,000 points to the corpse driver: "The extra amount is for cleaning fees."

"Thank you, guest!" The corpse-driver observed Xia Chuhe's expression. "You work for someone else too, how much do you earn each time you go in to retrieve corpses?"

Xia Chuhe didn't want to say much, but seeing that he was actually thinking about retrieving the body, he reprimanded him, "Do you know what the inside of a body recovery center is like?"

The corpse-driver shook his head.

Do you know what they do with the bodies they collect?

The corpse-transporter slapped his thigh: "Who doesn't know that? Collecting corpses, disposing of them uniformly, and preventing plagues."

"Do you believe me?" Xia Chuhe looked at him calmly.

The corpse-driver fell silent.

Xia Chuhe chimed in with a word of advice: "You two, one a space-type evolver and the other an ice-type evolver, could you do something better?"

“We…” The two looked at each other. “We have elderly parents to support and young children to raise. Nothing is safer than dealing with corpses.”

Xia Chuhe remained silent.

For evolved beings to survive in the wasteland, whatever they do is a gamble with their lives, though the stakes can vary greatly.

Compared to running dungeons, accepting quests, or building up a reserve army, dealing with corpses is indeed the safest way.

Xia Chuhe said, "How many points does the human skin mask cost? I'll buy it."

"No points required. You can keep it if you don't mind." The ice-type evolver told Xia Chuhe some methods for maintaining the mask, but no matter how well it is maintained, it can only be used for one or two years at most.

Xia Chuhe didn't stand on ceremony with the two of them and turned to leave.

The corpse-driver called out from behind her, "Next time you need a job like this, contact us again!"
