Chapter 155 The Femme Fatale

Suddenly, something unexpected happened, and the people in line quickly scattered to avoid it.

Without the crowd to shield him, Xia Chuhe witnessed a small-scale firefight firsthand.

The people in front, whether unable or unwilling to pay the bribe, clashed with the gatekeeper. Patrol teams from the surrounding area arrived instantly, and the two sides, unable to reach an agreement, immediately began fighting.

The man in line was quite skilled; he quickly erected a high earthen wall, leaving a small opening in it. He hid inside the wall, aiming and firing. His marksmanship was excellent; every shot hit its mark. Although his rate of fire was slow, he had already hit four or five people in a short time.

One of the patrol members, a scarred man, used the cover of the others to press his hand down on the earthen wall. A small tornado appeared out of thin air and pulled the earthen wall into the vortex.

A few faint howls and indistinct gunshots echoed from within the tornado.

After the wind stopped, red soil mixed with rags remained on the ground.

Scarface cracked his knuckles: "What a waste of that gun."

After the chaos subsided, the crowd once again formed long queues.

The man in black robes standing behind Xia Chuhe and the others asked, "Are you all together?"

The man in black robes spoke softly, just loud enough for Xia Chuhe to hear, and the voice sounded somewhat familiar.

Xia Chuhe asked suspiciously, "Pigeons?"

"Ah," the man in black robes exclaimed, "It's you."

This person was the strange man Xia Chuhe encountered in the abandoned safe house during his first auction, the one who bought the pigeons.

“You have a fine child; sell him to me!” said the man in black.

Xia Chuhe wondered if he had misheard: "What?"

“I said, this little girl is very good, name your price,” the man in black said slowly.

Except for Xia Bao'er, who didn't look at the man in black, everyone else glared at him angrily.

Xia Chuhe and Lu Dangui attacked simultaneously. Just as they raised their hands, their vision blurred and someone grabbed the back of their necks.

Li Qiusheng and the others inexplicably collapsed to the ground, while only Bao'er stood there looking confused.

The black-robed man, who was holding Xia Chuhe and Lu Dangui, said with a smile, "You should be glad that I don't do forced buying and selling, otherwise you would be dead already."

Bao'er mustered her courage: "Don't kill them, I..."

Xia Chuhe interrupted her: "Since you're not going to force us to buy, then let us go. We're not human traffickers."

"Aren't you looking for something that can combine two people into one? I have it."

Xia Chuhe was startled. How did he know what Xin Diao was looking for?

"Besides people, what else do you want?" Xia Chuhe asked.

"I only want the person," the man in black said.

The man in black robes suddenly put Xia Chuhe and Lu Dangui down and jumped to the side: "It's very impolite to interrupt others."

These words were spoken to the scarred man in the patrol team, who had just thrown two small wind blades that almost cut the black-robed man's hand.

The scarred man said brazenly, "Stop arguing, you, you, you, I want them all."

The scarred man named three people in one go—Xia Chuhe, Lu Dangui, and Xia Bao'er.

Xia Chuhe was so angry he laughed.

She can't beat either the man in the black robe or the scarred man. Let them all be destroyed! Just run them all over with your car!

Bu Yi got up and tried to smooth things over: "Brother, we can't take people, but we brought weapons this time. What do you want? Take whatever you like, okay?"

“Alright, thirty weapons for the three of you, plus one weapon each for the four of you, consider it a kickback, and I’ll let you in directly.” Scarface demanded an exorbitant sum.

Bu Yi bargained with him, reducing the kickback to twenty-five long swords, and finally managed to leave the group and enter the Cape Trading Market.

Once they were a distance away, Bu Yi deliberately avoided Bao'er and lowered his voice to Xia Chuhe, saying, "Boss, are we really going to bring the child? That scarred man doesn't actually want anyone; he just plays favorites."

After Bu Yi reminded him, Xia Chuhe also thought of this point.

Good people, when they see the weak, will take care of them if they have the means. Bad people, however, will only bully the weak more aggressively. Since they have children, most people will naturally see the children as easy targets for bullying.

"I will find a way to prevent this from happening," Xia Chuhe sighed.

...

The Cape Trading Market is a free trading place where vendors can set up stalls anywhere along the roadside. Transactions can be conducted using points or through barter, as long as both parties agree. Of course, coercing someone into agreeing by force also constitutes consent.

Wang Yan, Lu Dangui, and Li Qiusheng stayed at their stall, while Xia Chuhe and the others went to browse other stalls to see if they could find anything interesting.

Xia Chuhe hadn't gone far when he saw the man in black robes' stall, with some strange "junk" laid out on the ground—paper balls, a small fan, a small tube containing something unknown...

Xia Chuhe recalled that this person had once used the copy and paste keyboard to exchange for several pigeons, and a restless thought stirred within him.

The things on the ground may look unremarkable, but they might all be special items. The farm has the ability to identify special items, and with this ability, Xia Chuhe can find quite a few good things.

Although he had just had a minor altercation with the man in black, Xia Chuhe was able to be both flexible and resilient under the lure of special items.

With the farm's support, Xia Chuhe quickly discerned the function of the special items.

The small paper ball is a clue to the dungeon. Opening it in the dungeon will grant you clues about that dungeon.

The small fan is a one-time wind-attribute attack.

The contents of the small tube resembled Sun Wukong's hairs, capable of multiplying into several versions of himself, though they only had form and couldn't move.

...

They are all things that are somewhat useful, but not very useful.

The man in black robes whispered, "I have some good stuff here, but..."

The man in black robes gave Xia Bao'er a meaningful look, then quickly pulled something out of his sleeve and put it back.
