Chapter 17 First Experience at the Base

Everyone fell silent.

Wang Yan secretly tried to replicate it and succeeded in making a replica of a lollipop...

The flower stems are straight and upright, and the flowers are round and plump.

Wang Yan: ...quickly put away the embarrassing flames in his palm.

His control over fire was even worse than that of a little girl!

Xia Chuhe recalls his childhood with his mother.

She crouched down, her gaze level with the girl's: "You're very pretty, really amazing. Tell me your name? How old are you?"

Xia Chuhe spoke gently, a stark contrast to her previous unreliable demeanor.

The girl's voice was barely audible: "I don't have a name. My mom calls me Bao'er. I don't know how old I am."

Xia Chuhe gestured with his palm next to Bao'er a few times, roughly measuring Bao'er's height as 116cm, estimating her to be about five or six years old.

Xia Chuhe said, "My surname is Xia..."

She pointed to each person beside her: "This older sister's surname is Lu... Su... Du... This older brother's surname is Wang... Qin. You can choose whichever you like. Or any other surnames or characters you know? That's fine too."

Others: What does this have to do with us?!

However, no one stopped Xia Chuhe's actions, and no one explicitly expressed their unwillingness.

Bao'er put away the flowers in her hand and carefully pinched Xia Chuhe's clothes: "Xia, is it okay?"

“Of course.” Xia Chuhe took Bao’er’s hand. “Come on, let’s go get an ID card.”

Du Zhen stopped Xia Chuhe's actions: "Bao'er is too young. We should wait until she is ten years old before getting her identity card. People who need identity cards are all Evolvers. If Bao'er is registered as an Evolver when she is six or seven years old, it will attract a lot of attention."

At such a young age, he awakened extraordinary abilities, truly a genius. But geniuses always attract unwanted attention and trouble.

Su Yesheng was afraid that Xia Chuhe might not understand the situation at the base, so he added, "Non-evolved individuals don't need identity cards; they will never leave the base where they were born."

Xia Chuhe expressed his sincere gratitude.

She was truly lucky to have met such a sincere and kind team. Xia Chuhe would be very happy to cooperate with them if they needed to run dungeons again in the future.

After understanding the precautions, Xia Chuhe went to the guard station alone to apply for an identity card.

The guard station occupies a small area, even smaller than a modern small mobile phone service center.

There weren't many people in the hall; it was mostly adults with teenagers, processing identity cards for the teenage evolvers.

This aligns with what Du Zhen said.

Xia Chuhe was the only exception.

Soon, Xia Chuhe lined up in front of the window.

"I'm here to get my ID card. I'm Xia Chuhe, from the North Tiger Base."

The staff member typed on their notebook: "First time applying for a card? How old were you when you started?"

Xia Chuhe hesitated: "25?"

Everyone in the hall immediately turned to look at Xia Chuhe.

Their gazes were so blatant that Xia Chuhe felt extremely uncomfortable under their stares.

She said to the woman and child who were closest to her, "If you keep looking, I'll charge you."

The others in the hall looked away, and the staff member snapped back to reality: "Go over there and update the portrait. You'll need to pay a 200-point material fee."

Xia Chuhe waved to Du Zhen, who was waiting outside the door, and Du Zhen came in to pay the bill.

We really owe this young lady a debt.

I successfully had my photo taken and received my ID card.

Du Zhen was alone with Xia Chuhe: "That child, are you really going to raise him?"

"Hmm? You don't have to raise it?" Xia Chuhe said casually. "You're going to raise it for me?"

Du Zhen wanted to punch her: "No, the base has a nursery, which is mainly responsible for raising androids and orphans. When they grow up, the base will assign them jobs according to whether they are evolved or not."

"That's wonderful." Xia Chuhe was tempted.

“Never mind, I took her mother’s dried meat.” Xia Chuhe laughed. “My family runs a small business, and our family motto is just two words—honesty.”

Du Zhen said no more. Wastelanders didn't care about such things, as they lived a precarious existence.

The two left the guard post and turned into the nearby Five Star Shopping Mall.

The Five Star Shopping Mall features a minimalist design with a simple and elegant black and white color scheme. Two potted asparagus ferns at the front desk showcase the extravagance of the Five Star company.

The products inside the mall include various watches, notebooks, and portable cell towers.

Lu Dangui chose a basic watch with all the features, for 5000 points.

The watches displayed here are priced in three ranges.

3000, a minimalist model. It has all the necessary functions, but the quality is just average.

5000, the basic model. Fully functional, excellent quality, top-notch price-performance ratio, the hardware can last for ten years without any problems.

This is an upgraded version. It boasts comprehensive functions, excellent quality, and a beautiful appearance.

Xia Chuhe didn't choose a watch.

Her phone was a custom model, with a solar panel on the back and a memory card expansion slot inside.

She tried it; the phone could read the ID card, but it couldn't connect to the internet and had no signal.

Xia Chuhe placed his phone on the counter: "Could you check if this still works?"

The receptionist glanced at it and said, "It's an old relic, not made by Five Star Company, it's unusable."

Xia Chuhe took a basic model watch.

Wang Yan whispered, "I know a mechanic who likes to tinker with these old antiques. Maybe she can help you take a look."

Xia Chuhe put down the basic model and picked up a minimalist watch.

Frugality and thrift are traditional virtues of the Chinese nation.

Du Zhen paid the bill, and then she reached out to Xia Chuhe and Lu Dangui, saying, "Give me your ID cards first, in case you run away."

The two obediently handed over their identity cards, since there wasn't a single point on them anyway.

Du Zhen: "Let's go and exchange the loot from the dungeon for points first."

She could no longer bear the time she spent as the young lady's wallet.

Xia Chuhe silently calculated the prices in his mind: renting a car for a day costs 1200, a watch (or phone) costs between 3000 and 4000, the card application fee is 200, building a mill...
