Chapter 364 The Temple of the Heavenly God (Part 5)

A tiny, rice-grain-sized pill was stuck to Zhao Yu's finger. He said incredulously, "This is today's payment? This can be called a pill?"

A piece of brutus sold normally on the market is about the size of an adult's index fingernail, equivalent to five or six pieces of brutus distributed by the supervisor.

Zhao Yu felt like he had been fooled, and the others also started to make a fuss in dissatisfaction.

"If you don't want to do it, then get out! If you don't want to do it, there are plenty of other people who will!" the supervisor said impatiently.

One person in the crowd immediately shouted angrily, "I quit!"

"Take care, no need to see you out." The supervisor pointed to the open door. "Anyone else leaving? Get out of here too."

The crowd quieted down, and the woman who had spoken up left angrily when no one stepped forward.

Little did she know that behind that door awaited her not freedom and choice, but death.

...

Seeing that no one was causing trouble, the supervisor offered a lukewarm reassurance: "If you want more Blues, then perform well. The company needs to make money from all the Blues; just get some mini versions for your own use. Besides, you can accumulate quite a few mini versions..."

After giving everyone a long-winded reassurance, the supervisor changed the subject: "Some people performed well today, so they can get an extra pill."

He read out the list, and those who received the extra reward were met with envious and jealous glances.

"Some people's mucus collection is substandard, but considering that some of them are doing collection work for the first time, we'll let it slide for today. If it's the same tomorrow, our company will not pay you."

The supervisor read out another list of unqualified harvesters, and Zhao Yu's name was prominently featured on it.

Zhao Yu clenched his fists secretly, realizing that the insect's blood had affected the harvest results. A thought suddenly occurred to him—the slime was the raw material for creating Bru, so consuming only the slime should also provide some pleasure, right?

Zhao Yu secretly dipped his finger in the sticky liquid and put it in his mouth.

The sensations of pain, itching, and numbness exploded on his tongue. He wanted to scream in pain, but his tongue and throat were completely numb, and he couldn't make a sound.

Zhao Yu clutched his throat in pain, and when he looked up, he met his supervisor's ambiguous smile.

The supervisor did it on purpose; he deliberately didn't tell everyone this, so that everyone who secretly tasted the ingredients would suffer the consequences.

"One more thing, please don't work overtime at night. Bug is not very controllable at night. If anyone secretly stays to work overtime, the company will not be responsible for your personal safety."

After explaining the precautions, the supervisor left directly.

The collectors looked at each other, none of them showing any intention of leaving.

Li Feng whispered to Li Rong, "Let's go. It's safer to listen to the supervisor on the first night."

Li Rong scratched the itchy back of her hand: "Okay."

For some reason, she always felt an itch on the back of her exposed hands and cheeks.

Many people shared the same thoughts as Li Feng and Li Rong, and half of the collectors gradually left.

Of the group that destroyed the seedlings in winter, only Zhao Yu, Lu Lei, and she remained in the end.

Winter-destroying seedlings scrape off the slime from the surface of the insect treasure, patiently waiting for the next wave of slime production. She appeared calm, but was actually very anxious inside, resenting everyone else for being like the shrew.

"Aren't you leaving?" Dong Huimiao asked casually.

Lu Lei scratched the back of his hand: "I'm not leaving. I want to collect more slime so I can get a promotion."

Her frankness left Dong Huimiao speechless.

Zhao Yu clearly shared the same thought.

As everyone worked tirelessly, ten o'clock quietly arrived, the factory lights suddenly went out, and darkness enveloped the surroundings.

Several exclamations came from inside the breeding room, and soon someone lit a spark.

Lu Lei pulled out an emergency light from somewhere and hung it on the fence.

Night fell, and the music stopped playing.

Every wriggling movement of the insect reminded Dong Huimiao of her supervisor's words, making her heart pound with fear.

However, no accident occurred. The little bug was very well-behaved and quiet, with a thin layer of mucus clinging to its body, reflecting a warm glow under the light.

Winter destroyed the seedlings, pursing her lips, comforting herself that there were still many people in the breeding room, and with their company, there wouldn't be any major problems.

She picked up the bottle for collecting the mucus, frowned—the bottle's weight was wrong!

Looking at it under the light, only the bottom of the bottle remained; most of the original bottle of mucus had vanished.

"Someone stole my slime! You damned thief, if you've got the guts, come out and steal it openly, don't try to sneak around!" Dong Huimiao didn't tolerate the thief at all and immediately shouted.

Upon hearing that there was a thief, the others immediately clutched their bottles tightly, but it was too late.

"Thief! My slime is all gone!" Cries of anguish echoed from the breeding room.

Zhao Yu's face was ashen as he stared intently at Lu Lei, who had remained silent.

Lu Lei glared back impatiently, picking up the empty bottle: "What are you looking at? My slime has been stolen too. Idiot, it wasn't the workers who stole it, there's something else here."

Lu Lei reminded him that if the harvester had stolen the seedlings, he should have done so during the day, instead of waiting until night.

There is a creature in the breeding room that only appears at night and has stolen the slime.

"The bugs are not very controllable at night. If anyone sneaks in to work overtime, the company will not be responsible for your personal safety..."

The supervisor's words echoed in Dong Huimiao's mind again.

The one out of control wasn't the Insect Baby, but an unknown entity.

It can steal the slime without anyone noticing, so can it also silently take the life of the collector?

Thinking of this possibility, Dong Huimiao shuddered and silently moved closer to Lu Lei.

Dong Huimiao whispered, "Are you leaving?"

"Go on, or are you waiting to die?" Lu Lei sneered, tossed down the bottle, and left.
