Xu Ding rummaged around in the carriage for a while, then, carrying a toolbox full of things on his back, he and Xu Nuo headed to the supply station.
The second supply station was unmanned; Qi Zhen had told the two brothers in advance where to put the key.
Time ticked by, but Xu Ding and Xu Nuo still hadn't returned. The five people in the car took turns trying to contact them, but there was still no response.
Xia Chuhe said, "Shall we go take a look?"
Dr. Han: "The fact that they haven't returned means there must be a problem at the supply depot. They're most likely out of fuel, so we should abandon it..."
"Xiao Han!" Qi Zhen stopped him from saying anything even more inhumane.
Dr. Han held up the sample box: "The samples are in the car now, and the viruses and microorganisms inside could be inactivated at any time."
Qi Zhen remained silent.
Dr. Han said, "If they don't return in another hour, we'll head to the next supply depot."
A silence fell over the car; the atmosphere was so thick it was suffocating.
"Bang bang—"
A heavy thud came from the car window, and everyone looked out with trepidation. It was Xu Nuo.
Qi Zhen opened the car window.
Xu Nuo cried uncontrollably, his mask freezing to his mouth. He forced himself to speak and pleaded, "Save my brother! There's a trap at the supply station! He's disappeared!"
Dr. Han, Qi Zhen, and Dr. Zhao remained silent.
Xu Nuo looked at Xia Chuhe and Lu Dangui with tears in her eyes: "We're all from the same hometown, can't you help me?"
Xia Chuhe pursed her lips: "I'm sorry."
Xu Nuo's tears vanished instantly, and she said fiercely, "My brother carries another sample. Since none of you are willing to save him, then let the sample be buried with my brother!"
