Chapter 5 Building a Snow House

It was the face of an ape.

Prominent brow bones, deep-set eyes, large and flat nostrils, and protruding lips.

A creaking, scraping sound came from the doorway.

The trio of short people were the first to open the doorway.

Five snow apes stood outside the doorway, each carrying a thick fur.

Xia Chuhe, Lu Danggui, Du Zhen, and the other two took the furs and wrapped themselves in them, silently following the snow ape-man.

Xia Chuhe subconsciously wanted to get closer to Du Zhen and the others, but Lu Dangui grabbed her.

If the dwarf wasn't lying, the journey with the snow ape should be relatively safe.

Lu Dangui deliberately separated himself from the others and explained the characteristics of the dungeon to Xia Chuhe alone.

Newcomers to dungeons are easily tricked, and she didn't want others to know that Xia Chuhe was a first-timer in a dungeon.

Dungeons have appeared in the last hundred years. Some say they are a sign of the wasteland world's accelerated demise, while others say they are the wasteland's hope.

The dungeon types are strange and unusual, but they all have two characteristics.

One is very dangerous, more dangerous than the wasteland, where you could lose your life at any moment.

Another advantage is the relative abundance of resources and the near absence of pollution. Even in the harsh, icy world, seals can still be hunted.

Normally, each person can only stay in the instance for seven days, and will be teleported out on the eighth day.

Currently, both official and unofficial organizations are deliberately farming dungeons to earn resources.

It is said that each instance is a small world, and each small world has a core that supports its operation.

Most people obtain ordinary items from the small world, and very few obtain the core.

If the core is taken, the instance will also disappear.

Lu Danggui explained it all, but Xia Chuhe only vaguely understood.

She felt that getting a whole bag of flour and tea, and then getting out safely, would be good enough. As for the core or anything like that, she didn't dare to think about it.

Death is actually a good destination.

But she couldn't let go of Lu Dang Gui.

Lu Dangui was expelled from the base for trying to save her. Xia Chuhe should at least find Lu Dangui another place to stay.

The snow apes' territory was ten kilometers away. Under the snow apes' supervision, the group dared not rest and it took them more than an hour to reach it.

Before they even got close, they saw a circle formed by a bonfire, around which the snow ape-men were jumping around aimlessly.

As Xia Chuhe got closer, he saw food roasting over the fire.

Large chunks of meat emitted the smoky aroma of roasted meat, whole fish carried the salty fragrance of the sea, and plump seals kept dripping oil into the fire.

Xia Chuhe's mouth watered uncontrollably.

I only ate a little bit of nutritional supplement today. Although it filled me up, it didn't satisfy my cravings.

Not to mention her, even the usually composed Du Zhen couldn't help but swallow hard.

The three dwarfs turned around without hesitation and followed the snow ape man diligently, doing their work obediently.

Su Ye, another woman in Du Zhen's team, was also swallowing her saliva until she saw the large chunks of meat that the Snow Ape Man was roasting.

The copious amount of saliva stuck in her throat, causing Su Ye to cough incessantly.

Su Ye quietly tugged at Du Zhen's sleeve: "Zhen, those pieces of meat... have long white hairs on them."

Du Zhen's pupils contracted slightly, and he turned his face away, humming in response.

Upon hearing her words, Xia Chuhe examined the meat closely and discovered white hairs on the unprocessed pieces, the color and texture of which were identical to those of the Snow Ape!

Among the chunks of meat in the middle of the fire, there was even a snow ape's arm.

They even cannibalized their own kind!

A wave of nausea washed over Xia Chuhe, and he completely lost his appetite.

The group of seven was led to an open space by the snow apes, who pointed to the snow and molds on the ground, indicating that they should get to work.

The seven people wanted to get together for safety reasons.

The snow ape-man yelled "Ah ah!" and pushed the group away.

They bared their teeth, with exceptionally large teeth on their upper lips, some with bloody flesh stuck between them.

Xia Chuhe felt nauseous just looking at it.

Du Zhen glanced at Xia Chuhe and Lu Dangui.

Lu Dangui said, "Let's go to the other side."

However, even after being divided into two groups, the snow apes were still not satisfied. One snow ape stretched out its hairy claws towards Su Ye.

Du Zhen quickly pulled Su Ye aside: "Wang Yan, Su Ye, and Pan Sheng are in one group, and Lao Qin and I are in another."

Du Zhen whispered to Wang Yan, "Protect Su Ye well."

Seeing that the five people had split into two groups, the snow ape was finally satisfied and stopped chasing them away. Instead, it walked towards the fire, glancing at the groups from time to time, seemingly supervising their work.

Xia Chuhe and Lu Danggui have already started working.

The snow apes provided them with stone shovels and stone molds.

The stone shovel is used to dig a pit; building part of the igloo underground would keep it warmer.

But the ground was frozen solid, and Xia Chuhe pretended to shovel it a couple of times before immediately giving up.

The snow apes were generous with their tools; the two of them received six stone shovels and three molds.

Xia Chuhe unceremoniously took four stone shovels and a mold to the farm.

After she finished stealing, she turned her head and saw Lu Dangui carefully pressing snow into the mold, making the soft snow compact.

Lu Danggui was not entirely satisfied with this and continued to work hard to fill the snow.

Xia Chuhe: ...

Seriously? Do people really treat running dungeons like a simple job?

Xia Chuhe plopped down on Lu Dangui and said, "I'll weigh down the snow bricks, you build the wall."

Lu Dangui didn't think much of it, obediently nodded, and followed Xia Chuhe's arrangement.

Xia Chuhe poured out the super-heavy and super-solid snow bricks that Lu Danggui had pressed down and handed them to Lu Danggui.

Then I just stuffed some snow into the mold, not caring about making it firm, just making it take shape.

Lu Dangui weighed the snow brick, which was much lighter than the previous one, and hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped.

Xia Chuhe winked at her.

Lu Dangui sighed softly and began to build the foundation with snow bricks. To save effort, she followed the example of the others, standing in the middle of the snow house and laying snow bricks.

The two worked leisurely. If the snow ape glanced at them, they would work faster; if the snow ape didn't look, Xia Chuhe would stop working.

Although Xia Chuhe contributed little effort, the snow house was built surprisingly quickly because the snow bricks she made were of poor quality.

As the fire gradually died down, the snow house was already more than half built, and Lu Dangui had to stand on tiptoe to place the bricks properly.

However, just as Xia Chuhe was shoveling snow and making bricks, a soft "bang" sound suddenly came from behind him.

She turned around and saw that the snow house, which had been gradually building up, had completely collapsed. A snow ape and Lu Danggui stood in the snow house, looking at each other, with snowflakes falling all over them.

The snow ape roared and pounced lightly, shattering the snow house.

The enraged snow ape immediately lowered its eyes, extended its claws, and made a fierce expression.

Its claws are very sharp, with long nails, completely different from human hands, somewhat like duck feet, with the palms open to reveal the thin webbing in the middle.

It wants to attack Lu Danggui.
