Chapter 71 Black Rat

With a sheep tucked under her arm, Wang Yan asked blankly, "What? Did I have another baby?"

Xia Chuhe didn't know how to explain to him that "animal" was a metaphor for "baby".

She had no choice but to ask, "Do you want to hand these animals over?"

Wang Yan shook his head, saying that the value of live animals far exceeded that of food, water, and daily necessities, which was beyond doubt.

Xia Chuhe then asked, "If you have a child, would you want to give your child away?"

Wang Yan shook his head again. How could he possibly trade his own child for something?!

Xia Chuhe glanced at the second oldest in the village and said in a low voice, "That's it, whether they're animals or children..."

Xia Chuhe and the others did not want to hand them over.

As for the rats, it was partly a stopgap measure; if they were all left behind, the village chief would certainly be very unhappy. On the other hand, Xia Chuhe hadn't figured out what would happen if he handed over the animals or not.

The large number of mice, coupled with the limited value of the goods they could be exchanged for, indicated their low worth. Therefore, handing over the mice was an experiment conducted by Xia Chuhe.

Xia Chuhe couldn't help but make a hypothetical assumption: if her child really was a rat, would she do everything in her power to protect it?

Xia Chuhe shrank back uncomfortably; the assumption sent chills down her spine.

Thankfully, the baby was pulled out from the spinning wheel; if she had actually given birth to it, she wouldn't have been able to accept it!

Even if it were a dragon! I still couldn't accept it!

As for how the other evolved beings in the instance act, Xia Chuhe couldn't control that; she had already done her best to remind them.

Inside the hall, Wuying and Wang Gang witnessed the farce that Xia Chuhe had just put on.

Wang Gang held the newly hatched, featherless chick: "Third Master, what should we do?"

Wuying played with the little white snake in his hand, and the little white snake was half dead from his handling.

Wuying handed Wang Gang two mice: "You figure out how to deal with the village chief, I'll go see what she's up to."

Wang Gang: "..."

Xia Chuhe and the others strolled around the village, visiting most of the areas the couple had just taken them to.

Xia Chuhe waited specifically by the vending machine, watching other people buy things with their energy points. After watching several times, he still couldn't figure out what was going on.

The second oldest villager suddenly laughed and said, "Our village is quite big. There's a place that would be perfect for you. Would you like to go and take a look?"

His words were strange.

Xia Chuhe, however, didn't care at all: "Okay, lead the way."

Li Yue wearily dragged her backpack up; the calf was heavy, and she wanted to rest.

Sister Diao noticed Li Yue's unusual behavior and asked softly, "Why don't you go back and rest first?"

Li Yue hesitated for a moment: "No need, I can still manage."

Xia Chuhe sighed, "Let it walk on its own. Newborn calves can usually stand and walk within three or four hours."

Li Yue took the calf out of her backpack: "Who brought a rope?"

Wang Yan used a knife to cut a long strip from the hem of his clothes for Li Yue. He was also tired from carrying the lamb, so he cut one for himself as well.

After cutting off his own clothes, Wang Yan looked longingly at Lao Qin. There was still one lamb left untied; if he cut any more, he'd be wearing a crop top.

Old Qin: "..."

Old Qin had no choice but to give Wang Yan a rope from his own clothes.

Xia Chuhe thought for a moment and then released the little black snake. After the village chief's intimidation in the hall, the little black snake became much more docile. It coiled around Xia Chuhe's right middle finger, like a black ring.

With the calf no longer a burden, the group moved much faster.

The second oldest man in the village led them out of the village. The further they went, the fewer vending machines there were, and the fewer houses there were. Some houses had their doors open, and there were children crawling in their courtyards; the children looked to be a little over a year old.

The second oldest in the village was giving them a warning: the longer the children stay, the fewer resources they will receive.

Even after leaving the cluster of houses, the second brother continued walking. After walking another kilometer, the group spotted another house near the village.

The houses in the village are neat and beautiful with red tiles and blue bricks, but this house is built with thatch and branches, and it is dilapidated. A gust of wind can blow away a few strands of thatch.

"You old hag, are you still alive?" the second son shouted at the top of his lungs.

A weak cough came from inside the thatched hut.

The second son kicked the door open, pinched his nose, and walked into the thatched hut.

Lying in the thatched hut was a withered old man; if it weren't for the vibrations from his coughing, no human form would have been visible under the flat blanket.

The old man reached out to the second son, "Water...water..."

In one corner of the thatched hut, there was a large water vat covered with a round lid made of woven wheat straw, and on the lid was half a gourd ladle.

The second son pointed at the old woman, beaming with pride: "See? This is what happens when you disobey the gods. When you get old, there's no one to even offer you a sip of water. In our village, the obedient villagers get taken away by dutiful children to enjoy their old age before they even reach old age. If you don't listen to her..."

Xia Chuhe picked up a gourd ladle and slapped it across his second son's mouth: "Shut your stinking mouth!"

The second brother flew into a rage: "You dare hit me! You wait, I'll tell the village chief right now that you have ill intentions! Today we'll bring out the dragon and the snake!"

The second son turned and walked out of the thatched hut.

"Stop him!" Xia Chuhe shouted, and a fire snake shot out from her fingertips.

The fire snake landed in front of the second brother's feet, blocking his way.

The second brother turned around, his mouth twisting into a wide grin that reached behind his ears, his two front teeth suddenly bulging: "You guys started this!"

Upon seeing this unusual situation, the group instantly prepared for battle.

Wang Yan and Xia Chuhe unleashed their fires together, and the flames instantly engulfed the second brother.

Xin Diao's eyes gleamed as she held the second son firmly in place, unable to move despite being burned by the flames.

Lu Dangui protected Li Yue, Lao Qin, and the animals, retreating to the old man's bedside. Lao Qin watched the four fighting warily, ready to nurse someone at any moment.

The second child gradually shrunk under the scorching flames, as if it had been melted by the fire.

Boss Xin laughed and said, "Hmph, a piece of cake."

Xia Chuhe and Wang Yan also breathed a sigh of relief.

Just then, a black rat, about half a person's height, suddenly darted out of the flames. Its incisors gleamed coldly as it charged towards the group.

Xin Diao and Diao Jie used their superpowers at the same time, but the rat's speed did not decrease at all, and in the blink of an eye it had rushed to the group's legs.

The flames from Xia Chuhe and Wang Yan had no effect on it whatsoever.

The group struggled to move around the room, while the black rat kept its eyes fixed on Xia Chuhe.

Wang Yan and others were desperately trying to provoke the rat's hatred, but the rat was completely unaware.

Xia Chuhe pulled out the pistol from his waist and fired at the rat that was inches away. With a loud "bang", the rat's flesh sizzled and smoked, and blood gushed out.

However, the pistol only temporarily halted the black rat's attack and did not fundamentally damage it.

The rat pounced on Xia Chuhe in a rage.

Newborn calves weigh 25-45kg, sheep 2-3kg, pigs 1.2-1.5kg, and tigers 0.5-3kg, with significant differences between different breeds.

So it's no wonder Sister Li is weak; she's really exhausted, working herself to the bone for the sake of milk...
