Xia Chuhe pressed his eyes against the gap in the car roof, fascinated, admiring the vibrant world outside.
If it weren't for the strange "pedestrians" coming and going in the market, Xia Chuhe would almost think he had returned to his childhood.
There were very few creatures on the road that looked completely human; most were species with human bodies and animal heads. Occasionally, you could see a few pigs wearing suits, dogs wearing glasses, and horses with big gold chains.
The truck drove slowly through the market, and Ma, wearing a thick gold chain, shouted, "Old Dog, what good stuff did you bring back this time?"
"Mr. Ma, I'd definitely let you know first if I had anything good! This time it's just personal business! Personal business!"
The truck drove through the market, stopped by the roadside, and the engine shut off completely.
Xia Chuhe cut the rope outside the canopy and crept under the vehicle.
He looked up and met Wang Yan's gaze from under the car in front of him.
A pair of legs appeared outside the truck, and the person kicked the wheel, which made a dull thud.
"He's out. What kind of boss is he? What kind of underling is he?"
It's Boss Xin.
Xia Chuhe then crawled out from under the car. She dusted off the dust on her sleeves and explained seriously, "I did this for safety reasons."
Xin Diao pointed to the impressive courtyard beside the road: "They've all gone inside, and the cars have driven in too."
Xia Chuhe smiled and said, "Since we're already here, let's go in and take a look."
Xin Diao shrugged: "Do you think they're willing to go with you?"
Xia Chuhe then noticed that the others were staring intently at the market not far away. Wang Yan's Adam's apple bobbed, Old Qin looked utterly captivated, and Li Yue's eyes shone: "So much...so much...food."
Xia Chuhe didn't sense any danger as he walked from the market; it felt like a peaceful and ordinary small town.
"Let them go, you keep an eye on them?" Xia Chuhe helped them load their things into the farm, and tricked Xin Diao into being a temporary bodyguard.
Xin Diao pouted and raised her chin at Diao Jie: "Of course I'm going."
It turned out that Sister Diao was following closely behind Li Yue. Although her face was expressionless, her eyes were wider than usual.
Wuying ran over, saying, "I want to go too! I'll protect them. You can have this guy at your beck and call."
Wu Ying pushed the person behind him in front of Xia Chuhe, his face full of pride: "Indestructible Body."
It was Wang Gang who shielded Wuying from a bullet the night before last.
Wang Gang saw Wu Ying mingling with Xia Chuhe and the others, so he secretly followed them. When Wu Ying hid in the truck, Wang Gang followed him inside.
Wang Gang smiled ingratiatingly at Xia Chuhe and called her "Sister Xia" in the same way Wang Yan did.
This man had a fierce and menacing appearance, but his smile was quite honest and simple, like a big, simple-minded fool.
Xia Chuhe thought of his supernatural ability and decided to follow him; his indestructible body wouldn't be a hindrance.
The Lighthouse really has all sorts of talents; an indestructible evolved being with maxed-out defense is just a shadowy follower.
It's good to let these people go to the market; it'll save us from having a large group following us, which would easily expose us.
Xia Chuhe put his arm around Lu Dangui's shoulder and said softly, "Why don't you go and have a look around with them? I just saw some cupcakes for sale on the roadside. They have cream on them. You can try them."
As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Xia Chuhe realized something was wrong...
They seem to, probably, have no money...
Points probably can't be used here...
Seeing the eagerness and impatience on Li Yue and the others' faces, Xia Chuhe did not reveal this disappointing fact.
These people are all highly skilled; making some money shouldn't be a problem for them, right?
Lu Dangui turned his head away from the market: "I don't want to go."
Xia Chuhe was about to persuade him again when Lu Dangui said, "If we don't go now, we won't be able to see anything."
Xia Chuhe: "..."
Xia Chuhe ignored the poor guys who were going to the market and led Lu Dangui and Wang Gang to the edge of the yard.
The hummingbird had already crouched down by the wall.
Lu Dangui easily climbed over into the yard and found a secluded spot to hide.
Xia Chuhe climbed onto Wang Gang's shoulders and peered over the wall to watch the spectacle. Although there was a hummingbird (a live streaming platform), nothing beats the excitement of being there in person.
They were indeed a bit late.
The rat parents, who were respectfully invited into the car this morning, are now, for some reason, kneeling in the yard with their hands and feet tightly bound.
A sandalwood chair sat before the mouse parents, and on it sat their expressionless tiger son. The warm politeness that had been etched onto his face that morning had vanished without a trace.
"Let go, let go of me, you unfilial son, what are you doing?!" Father Rat roared.
Tiger laughed, his hand on his forehead, but there was a hint of sadness in his laughter.
After the tiger finished laughing, Xia Chuhe noticed that the fur around his eyes was wet and sticky, somewhat like the tear stains left by a kitten that often sheds tears. He looked rather pitiful, making one want to pamper (or torment) him.
"Unfilial son? Unfilial son? Ha, how ridiculous. Have you ever thought about whether you really gave birth to a tiger?"
The two mice kneeling on the ground frowned in unison.
"We had a total of... twenty-two children, didn't we?"
"No, no, twenty-three." After all, she gave birth to them herself, so the mother mouse remembered them more clearly.
"There are a dozen or so mice, a few rabbits, seven cows... and..." Father Mouse started counting, then got stuck.
Mommy Mouse added, "It looks like there are also a few sheep and pigs..."
They had too many offspring, and each one was given away after only one or two years of raising. Two or three decades later, when they looked back, they couldn't even remember which offspring they had. However, it seems they never actually had any tigers.
The tiger's expression grew increasingly cold: "If you can remember him today, I'll take you to see him one last time tomorrow and let you live one more day. If you can't remember, then tomorrow you can expect to be judged!"
Trial?
What trial?
Those kneeling in the courtyard and those clinging to the wall all simultaneously faced this question.
Xia Chuhe let go and jumped off Wang Gang's shoulder. Hummingbird dutifully guarded the wall to record the video, while Lu Dangui nimbly climbed over the wall into the yard.
The three returned to the truck. The group, who had gone to the market with great enthusiasm, now returned looking dejected.
Xia Chuhe asked knowingly, "Oh? Why are you back?"
Li Yue's eyes welled up with tears: "I have no money."
She reached into her pocket and a few nutrient solutions fell to the ground.
Li Yue pointed pitifully to her empty pockets: "I don't have any money at all. The milk here is so cheap, you can buy a whole bucket for just a little money. There are also bananas, oatmeal, sugar..."
The more she spoke, the lower her voice became, and the redder her eyes grew.
Snap.
A large tear fell to the ground.
Xia Chuhe laughed unkindly: "If you don't have money, just go earn it. Let's go make some money."
