Before leaving, Xia Chuhe packed up everything he could take from the snow house.
What they called "all" was actually just a large pile of pine firewood and a few flints.
Du Zhen: ...
Although she was bad at jinxing things, she had to say, "Are you preparing to drag all of us down with you if something goes wrong?"
Without firewood, no one except Wang Yan could survive.
Xia Chuhe: ...That makes sense.
Xia Chuhe put back half of the pine firewood.
She wasn't after firewood; she just wanted to see if there were any other suitable places to spend the night while she was fishing.
Xia Chuhe didn't want to work for the snow apes anymore.
The group went fishing in the north.
Everyone else was full of energy, except for Wang Yan, who was as sleepy as a dead dog.
Upon arrival, the group gathered around the frozen lake to discuss how to catch fish.
Wang Yan rolled up his fur and lay down on the snow: "I'm going to sleep for a while. Wake me up when we leave."
Xia Chuhe was speechless when she saw the ice surface covered with thick ice; this was completely different from what she had imagined.
She thought the ice had cracked open to reveal the lake, but in reality, the ice was frozen solid. Without ice-breaking tools, even a hundred fishing nets wouldn't help.
Su Ye humbly asked for guidance: "How do I cast a net?"
Xia Chuhe said listlessly, "Let's dig a hole first."
Du Zhen pulled a dagger out of his boot.
Lu Danggui pulled a small iron rod out of his hair.
Old Qin pulled out a small hammer.
Su Ye brought over a block of ice.
Wang Yan stretched out a hand: "Xiao Ye, give me a buff."
Xia Chuhe's lips twitched as he watched the ice under Wang Yan's hand gradually thin out, melting into a small hole.
The others: ...silently put away their weapons.
When the hole had shrunk to the size of a water bucket's waist, Wang Yan rolled over, moved a little further away, and went to sleep.
Before the net was even cast, some silly fish were already jumping out.
The fish's head was round, flat, and hard, like a plain tortoise shell on its head. Its body was slender, somewhat resembling an eel.
Xia Chuhe had never seen this kind of fish before: "What kind of fish is this?"
Nobody knows.
Xia Chuhe asked again, "Is it edible?"
Lu Danggui touched it: "Non-toxic and pollution-free, edible."
Wang Yan, annoyed by their noise, silently rolled away again.
Xia Chuhe brought the fish to the farm, and in a short time, he had collected about ten silly fish.
Not all fish are stupid; most of them gather around the entrance of the hole and swim around, but they don't jump out.
Xia Chuhe took out a fishing net.
The fishing net woven from willow branches was very simple, with no lead weights at the edges, so it could not sink quickly into the water.
Fortunately, fish in ancient times were less wary and were unaware when they got caught in fishing nets.
Xia Chuhe cast his net several times and had a good harvest.
Looking up, good heavens, a large, snow-white beaver was stealthily creeping towards Wang Yan.
If it weren't for the beaver's brown head, Xia Chuhe wouldn't have noticed it at all.
She scoffed, signaling everyone to pay attention.
Du Zhen pressed his palm down, and the group lay down in unison. The dog stealthily moved towards Wang Yan's location, using the snow as cover.
The five men lay in ambush beside Wang Yan.
The beaver stealthily approaches.
near.
When it was about a meter away from Wang Yan, the beaver sprang up from the ground, opened its blood-red mouth, and lunged at Wang Yan's neck.
Lu Danggui and Du Zhen jumped up at the same time.
Lu Danggui thrust his iron rod into the beaver's mouth, piercing its throat.
Du Zhen's dagger pierced the beaver's head from the outside, and blood splattered all over Wang Yan's head and face.
Awakened by the pouring water: What happened? Who am I? Where am I?
Warm, fresh blood flowed onto Wang Yan's lips. Wang Yan subconsciously stuck out her tongue and licked it. It was salty, had a rusty taste, and was a little fishy.
"Damn, you guys are inhuman!"
He finally realized what had happened.
The herd of livestock used him as bait to lure and capture a beaver.
Everyone was amused by him.
Xia Chuhe thought, if she were to curse, she would curse them as real dogs.
She asked casually, "Have you ever seen a dog?"
"Mutant dog? I've seen them before." Du Zhen drew his dagger, wiped it clean with snow, and put it back in his boot.
She casually remarked, "They're easy to kill; they're low-level monsters with low lethality."
Xia Chuhe's smile froze, and a pang of sadness welled up in his heart.
In her world, dogs are man's best friend. Her family farm has many large yellow dogs they found, which are very responsible in guarding the house, herding sheep, hunting rabbits, and cleaning up leftovers.
But in the wasteland world, dogs are just low-level monsters that are easy to kill.
...
Du Zhen and the others did not notice Xia Chuhe's emotions.
Du Zhen praised Lu Danggui: "You reacted very quickly and were not affected by the wind and snow at all."
"I'm used to it."
As Lu Dangui spoke, he walked over to Xia Chuhe and helped her brush the snow off her body.
She said, "I've seen my old pet dog online; it was so cute. If I see it in the game again, I'll catch one for you."
Du Zhen said, "We have a sacred beast in our army, and it's quite adorable. I'll introduce you to it sometime."
She said this with the intention of recruiting them.
The team lost a space-type teammate, but Xia Chuhe can fill the gap. Lu Dangui, although a support, is very capable and a strong fighter.
Du Zhen's special ability is sensory dulling; he can't feel the cold of the snow, so his movements are unaffected. Lu Dangui, however, doesn't possess this ability, yet he can still achieve precise kills.
Wang Yan washed his hair and face with river water.
He returned with a slightly transparent, yellowish object in his hand.
Wang Yan: "I just found this in the river. Have you seen it before?"
Xia Chuhe frowned: "Let me see."
She took the item in her hand, and as she suspected, it was indeed a fragment of a plastic bag, commonly found in snack packaging.
