Chapter 22 Kyal emerges from confusion

After traveling by carriage from the capital, the two arrived at a border town in the Kingdom of Geolar, not far from their destination, the forest known as the Monster Forest.

The Monster Forest, located at the border between the Kingdom of Geolar and the demon-controlled territories, is home to many ferocious monsters and beasts, making it a great place for adventurers to hunt and level up.

The rest of the journey would naturally have to be on foot, as a carriage was not convenient for traveling in the forest, and in such a dangerous place, the two of them did not have the energy to take care of the horses.

Since it was already quite late when they arrived, the two of them first found a hotel to stay in and rest after reaching this border town. They also paid a deposit to leave their horses there for someone to take care of.

After dinner, Kyal rested in his room, lying on the bed staring blankly at the ceiling. At that moment, he suddenly missed the maids in the palace.

"Seriously... people really can't be idle..."

Kyal muttered to himself, a slightly bitter smile on his face.

People really can't be idle; if they are idle, they will start to overthink.

There was never a moment of rest in the palace from morning till night. He studied in the morning, practiced swordsmanship in the afternoon, and practiced waist exercises in the evening. Apart from these three things, he either ate or slept. He was like a time management master with a full schedule.

With a maid constantly watching over her, she had to be mindful of her words and actions at all times, lest she do anything that aroused suspicion.

As a result of suppressing his thoughts for too long, his mind started racing as soon as he left the palace. He didn't want these thoughts to interfere with his plans, but why couldn't he help himself?

Kyal understood that these were the issues he was worried about. If there really was a god who created the rules for leveling up by fighting monsters in this world, were his level, class, and healing magic things that could be taken back at any time by this being?

But what exactly is he, the hero, in this existence? A pawn? A puppet? A doll?

Were all his actions influenced by God? Did God know that Kyal's soul had been replaced?

Even if he gets a ticket and travels to another world, can he take all his power with him? Would God really let him leave with His possessions? If all his power is taken back, and the new world he travels to is dangerous, how will he survive?

Kyal felt completely insecure. A series of questions were plaguing his mind, leaving him conflicted and confused.

In this confused and bewildered state, it is simply impossible to practice Nen abilities.

Because mindfulness is not just a technique for controlling life energy; it is also closely related to will, intention, and mind.

"Knock knock knock".

Just as Kyal was racking his brains over these things, there was a knock on the door.

"Kayal, may I come in?"

Kreeher's voice came from outside the door, and just from her voice, Kyal could guess the worried look on Kreeher's face.

"...Come in...the door's unlocked..."

Kyal sighed softly and sat up in bed, supporting himself.

The door opened, and Kreeher, dressed in a white casual outfit, walked into the room and closed the door behind her.

“Kayal…”

Kreh pursed her lips. Kyal still looked uneasy, as he had been since they arrived. Even when asked, he would deflect the question by saying that nothing was wrong.

But looking like this, how could it be that nothing's wrong?

"Kresh, don't worry, I'm really fine. I just need a good night's sleep."

Kyal managed to force a smile.

"Kayal, you don't have to force yourself."

Kreeher sat down on the edge of the bed and took Kyal's hand.

"I really didn't..."

Don't lie to me!

Kreeher interrupted Kyal excitedly, her eyes reddening and glistening with tears, looking as if she was about to cry.

"Kayal's expression is exactly the same as the one I saw in the mirror when I lost my right hand!"

"How could it be that nothing's wrong?!"

“…”

Kyal was speechless. His mind had been racing with these thoughts all this time, and he couldn't even maintain his acting skills. How could his expression be so obvious?

"I know exactly how I felt back then... unease, confusion, and fear."

"As the most talented 'Sword Saint' in the family, he lost his right hand and can no longer wield a sword, filled with uncertainty about his future..."

"Having lost my right hand, I can no longer fight... I feel lost about the future..."

"And then there's the fear that, now that I'm no longer of any fighting value, I might be used as a tool for the continuation of my family's lineage..."

"For me in the past, the sword was everything! My strength was everything!"

"But losing my right hand really felt like the world had turned dark; there was no hope left, and I felt completely insecure..."

Kreeher gripped Kyal's right hand even tighter.

"It was you, Kaiyar, who healed my right hand, allowing me to wield a sword again and continue fighting."

"How can I possibly ignore someone like you... I can't do it!"

"So... please, Kyal, please let me help you, okay? I'll do anything you ask..."

Kreh looked pleadingly into Kyal's eyes.

“…”

Kyal, who was looking at Kreeher, fell silent.
