Braniko, a medium-sized town, was originally a human town located at the border between the demon territory and the human territory, but ten years ago, the Kingdom of Geolar abandoned the town for strategic purposes.
At that time, all the residents of Branikori believed that the evil demons would launch a great purge and turn the town into a place inhabited only by demons, and that a desperate battle was inevitable.
But things took a turn for the better. The lord of Braniko actually negotiated with the demons, proposing the idea of peaceful coexistence between humans and demons, and the demons agreed to it.
Based on the value that "humans are just one race, no different from demons and demi-humans," humans and demons began to try to coexist peacefully in this town.
Although there were some conflicts at the beginning, they gradually came to understand each other through communication. Demons are also human beings, and despite their different races, they all have human hearts.
Since we are all human, we can get along. As long as we help each other, show each other courtesy, and understand each other, humans and demons can coexist peacefully.
In a peaceful and interdependent relationship, humans obtained the labor of the demons and the magical power of the demons. Land that would normally take humans a year to cultivate could be completed by the demons in a week by having them work with the demons. The demons' magic was also diverse, even used in agriculture, industry, and brewing, which made the local economy prosperous.
The demons also benefited from the conveniences of civilization, learning and enjoying methods for growing delicious vegetables, raising livestock, brewing wine, as well as cooking, music, drama, and many other things, which improved their lives.
At the same time, humans also provide food for monsters, which is human blood containing magic to feed monsters.
The lord of Braniko enacted a law that would reduce the monthly tax burden for each household if they donated a vial of blood each month. This was not mandatory; those who did not wish to donate blood could simply pay their taxes as usual.
Monsters are attracted to magical creatures, so they attack and devour humans or demi-humans with magical abilities. Feeding them blood, a renewable resource, is undoubtedly more cost-effective and efficient than directly attacking humans.
To the demons, it's like humans helping to milk a cow.
Braniko can also be seen as a ranch for producing monster feed. Blood that cannot be digested within the town is transported to other towns in the demon realm for use.
There are three reasons why Chen Hao chose to stay in this town for a period of time to cultivate.
First, now that Chen Hao has regained his senses, he's not in a rush to level up, defeat the Demon King, and obtain the Philosopher's Stone. He's finally made it to another world, so how could he not take the time to explore and sightsee? The town of Braniko was described in the original work, and one of Chen Hao's reasons for coming to this town was to visit and check it off his list.
Secondly, Chen Hao was very interested in the peaceful coexistence of humans and demons in the town of Branico and planned to see it for himself. If he felt it was good, perhaps when he became strong enough to overthrow the rule of the Kingdom of Geolar, he would put one of his own people on the throne as the emperor of the new kingdom and cooperate with Eve, who would probably become the Demon King by then, to eliminate the current war between humans and demons, and at the same time, make the new kingdom treat demi-humans equally and restore peace to the world.
Thirdly, Chen Hao wanted to ambush two people here: the Sword Hero, Bred, and Princess Norn. In the original story, they both came to this city with the intention of massacring its residents. Currently, this city has not yet experienced any massacres from the Kingdom of Geolar, so it is feasible for Chen Hao to come here in advance and ambush them.
Although Chen Hao didn't know what kind of changes the butterfly effect he had caused would bring, it was certain that Princess Norn would plan to massacre the town. In her eyes, Braniko had now fallen into the territory of the demon race, and the human residents living in the town were all traitors. Demons and humans could not coexist, and the war had to continue until humans killed the Demon King and the Kingdom of Geolar obtained the Philosopher's Stone to unleash a forbidden spell to rule the world.
Currently, the fighting on the front lines has temporarily subsided. If Princess Noren wants to start another war, she must first ignite a spark. She will undoubtedly use the excuse that the humans in Branicone are enslaving humans by donating blood to feed monsters to massacre all the demons in the city. The human residents will not be spared either. After all, once everyone in the town has been slaughtered, the specifics of the situation will be up to Princess Noren to decide. She can simply fabricate a story that the demons were the ones who attacked the human residents.
When the demons realize what's happening, they will definitely start another war with humans. Also, because of the example of Braniko, there will never be a second chance for humans and demons to coexist. Once that happens, the two sides will have completely broken off relations.
Slaughtering an entire town for a single strategic purpose—that's the ruthless and cold-blooded nature of Princess Norren.
If possible, Chen Hao would try to stop the massacre. After all, it was the lives of people in an entire town. Since he had the ability to stop it, he couldn't just ignore it. This wasn't out of a misplaced sense of compassion; it was simply driven by the most basic moral principles.
At the same time, Chen Hao felt that Noren was too dangerous and he had to find a way to get rid of her. Even if he didn't kill her, he had to rewrite her personality and make her one of his own.
