Chapter 32 I was so scared I almost flew away
Large raindrops fell with a pattering sound.
Su Jingge's clothes were half wet, and Qingyue took off her outer robe and held it on the woman's head.
The aroma of tea filled the government office.
Zhao Zhou sat casually in the official chair, staring at her with disdain: "Su Jingge, do you know what mistake you've made?"
Raindrops slid down Su Jingge's brow, but she didn't blink: "I don't know."
Zhao Zhou snorted coldly and twitched his finger.
Beside him, Fan Tong picked up a consumer voucher from the table with two fingers. On the table was a piece of wet, broken tile.
Fan Tong's cold eyes blazed, a smile playing on his lips: "You won't admit it? Ha! You should recognize what this is, shouldn't you?"
As he spoke, the man threw the object to the ground, where it floated right in front of her feet.
She didn't look down, but glanced at him gently.
These are her restaurant vouchers, how did they end up with Zhao Zhou?
'smack'
The sound of the gavel startled Fan Tong so much that he almost dropped his hat.
"Assistant Su, I have received two lawsuits today. The first is that there is a problem with the quality of the batch of rubble you produced, and you must stop work!"
"The second matter concerns this consumer voucher. Someone has filed a lawsuit against you, accusing you of inciting public opinion and attempting to cut off the livelihoods of other taverns in Yuxiang County!"
"How do you explain these two lawsuits?"
The man squinted, staring at her.
Behind him, ordinary people listened to the case while holding umbrellas.
They were discussing it:
"Manager Su is in trouble this time. I heard that the merchant surnamed Tang used poor-quality tiles when repairing the roof, and it broke overnight. Luckily, no one lives there, otherwise... someone might have died!"
"I've never heard of this. When did it happen?"
"It was just last night. I only heard it when I went to collect cow dung there this morning."
"The rubble is of poor quality? May I ask, Lord Zhao, you provided this material to me. Now that the roofs of people's houses have collapsed, what do you want from me?" Su Jingge's pupils were as black as lacquer, and her aura was calm and powerful.
Zhao Zhou smiled sinisterly: "You bought rubble from that Master Li, how can you say it's my rubble?"
"Lord Zhao, you must have a bad memory. I did buy a batch of rubble from Master Li, but I haven't even used it yet. How can you say that I had someone repair defective products?"
"Secondly, I'm using the leftover materials from Lord Zhao's batch. We haven't finished using them yet... Oh..." Su Jingge took a step forward, pointing at him in surprise, "Could it be that the official's rubble is fake?"
"Huh? It's fake?"
"The official documents were fake?!"
The onlookers began to discuss the matter with unease.
Someone stepped forward: "Lord Zhao, you must give us an explanation! Is it fake or not? If the roof collapses, people could die!"
The people, their faces flushed, crowded forward, and the yamen runners couldn't stop them.
In an instant, they all reached the threshold, that dividing line.
The accusations were deafening and chaotic.
Zhao Zhou panicked, and the gavel rang out again with a 'snap'.
"Everyone back off, or you'll be arrested for rioting!" Fan Tong hurriedly shouted.
Zhao Zhou was taken aback, her eyes darting around. Wait, wasn't this him accusing her?
How can I bite him back?
He underestimated this little bitch.
Zhao Zhou pointed at Su Jingge below the hall and solemnly said, "Stop talking nonsense. Bring me the witnesses, and we'll know the truth in one question."
"Send word to the Tang family!"
Su Jingge smiled inwardly. She had originally intended to use the materials from Master Li, but considering that Zhao Zhou's remaining materials might cause confusion, she decided against it.
Xu Yuan had warned Zhao Zhou that he would cause trouble, but he couldn't wait to do it again after only two days of peace.
A short while later, a man in a dark blue robe, Tang, who was probably in her fifties, entered the hall with a worried look on his face.
When he saw Su Jingge, he was clearly bending over, unable to look at her.
Zhao Zhou's voice was extremely low, carrying a hint of warning: "Tang, you tell me what happened with the roof collapsing?"
Tang, with his back bent the whole time, recounted how Su Jingge had brought materials to repair the piles in his house.
Su Jingge asked, "How can you be sure that those materials are mine and not Lord Zhao's?"
The man stammered, his hands trembling, "I... I just noticed that these rubble pieces were different from the previous batch..."
Looking at the man's cowardly appearance, Su Jingge could tell he was being blackmailed.
She looked at Zhao Zhou with a lowered gaze, a warning to Tang Shi to be careful with her words.
These green flies are the worst kind of disgusters.
She said, "Then Manager Tang must have misread it. That batch of materials belonged to Magistrate Zhao. I was just taking them out to dry and soak them three times."
"Huh? Three sunbathing sessions and three drenching sessions? What does that mean?"
"We don't understand either."
The people were puzzled.
Su Jingge said calmly, "Only after being dried in the sun and rained on repeatedly will the rubble become more solid."
Zhao Zhou sneered: "If there really is no problem, why are you going to all this trouble? It can only mean you have something to hide!"
"You're the one who's hiding something!" Su Jingge retorted.
Zhao Zhou was taken aback, only to see that the woman's eyes were dark and captivating.
"Because the batch of materials you provided has been stored for many years, in damp and shady places, near rubble and ditch. Only after taking them out to dry and going through a series of processes can they be used."
The people nodded in agreement:
"So Assistant Manager Su really knows repair techniques! That's amazing!"
"That's absolutely right. That's how I do it with my clay, and it actually makes it stronger."
The discussion grew louder:
"But why is it old material? Isn't it new material?"
"Could it be that the funds allocated by the imperial court were used by Magistrate Zhao to produce the materials long ago? But why isn't it being distributed to us all?"
"Yes, Lord Zhao, why has it been delayed for so long?"
"Did Lord Zhao produce the materials a long time ago, but just not let me use them?"
The people's voices rose higher and higher, and Zhao Zhou's forehead was covered in sweat.
He cursed Tang inwardly, demanding that she say she personally saw that the batch of materials was transported from Master Li's place.
That old coward, he won't say a word.
He's being tortured like a firecracker!
And what about Su Jingge? How did she know that she had already given birth ahead of time?
He secretly produced this material to build eight houses for his own family.
Could it be that Xu Yuan said it?
'smack'
The gavel struck.
"Silence!" Zhao Zhou stroked his beard. "People, this batch of materials is leftover from the reconstruction after the disaster. If it's materials that came from me, then there's absolutely no problem. Tang saw with his own eyes that the materials came from Master Li's place. Who knows if Assistant Manager Su sold off the good materials and pocketed the money, while using the leftover materials to build your houses?"
He glanced at Tang, signaling him to speak!
Tang hesitated, knowing that Assistant Magistrate Su was a good person and didn't want to say anything, but because her son had something on him that the magistrate had, she was now in a dilemma!
Su Jingge looked at Tang Shi's predicament and then at Zhao Zhou and his group's sinister faces.
Her expression darkened. "Bite me?"
Oh!
Your teeth aren't sharp enough!
Zhao Liu's eyes showed even more fear and unease as he looked at Tang Shi without saying a word.
Instead, Su Jingge was about to speak again.
Now, just seeing her speak makes his head buzz and ache.
"So you're saying this batch of materials wasn't built by you, but by the government? The government fabricated it!"
Oh my goodness!
Zhao Zhou's vision went black upon hearing this.
Why is this girl so sharp-tongued?
His lips twitched, his face paled, and he wiped his sweat: "You, you, you, this is outrageous! When did I ever say that the government was fabricating evidence?"
"You can't just say things like that!"
Zhao Zhou's eyes darted around.
I was so scared I almost jumped out of my skin.
