Chapter 58: Hired an Engineer
The next day.
Su Jingge received a message from Xie Mo, who said that the people had not borrowed those large tools.
She could understand; after all, no one has many tools, and it would be a shame to take them out and use them in such a useless way.
But the people still borrowed the smaller tools.
That's fine.
Fortunately, she and Xie Mo split up into two groups.
Xie Mo made a mistake, but we succeeded.
She rode her horse to Mazhuang in the west of the city.
Lu Huai paced back and forth at the entrance of Mazhuang, his hands behind his back. Today was the deadline, and if Su Jingge didn't secure the land deed for Mazhuang, there would be no turning back.
His thoughts were heavy with sorrow.
But then a clear, crisp sound rang out.
"Brother Lu Huai."
The man was startled and saw the woman rein in her horse and dismount.
"President Su, you've really come!"
He was extremely excited, his eyes shining.
"I've kept Brother Lu Huai waiting."
"What are you saying? Assistant Manager Su has been racking his brains, and this matter has nothing to do with him. It would be a favor if you helped, and it's your right not to." He stepped aside to make way for him. "Please come inside."
The two sat under the thatched shed.
Su Jingge took out the item: "This is something Brother Lu Huai entrusted to me three days ago. Please take a look and see if it's true?"
Lu Huai took the land deed, opened it, and saw the handwriting and signature.
"This is it, this is it!" He immediately stood up excitedly, cupped his hands in gratitude, and exclaimed, "Assistant Su, you've saved my whole family!"
The man was excited, his eyes filled with shock.
Su Jingge helped him up: "Brother Lu Huai, you don't need to be so polite. I was just lucky. You must keep this land deed safe and don't give it to others easily."
She paused, then said, "There's something I'm not sure if I should ask."
"Assistant Su is now my savior, Lu Mou's savior. Please speak, my benefactor!"
Where is your younger brother, Lu Er, now?
Mentioning this matter, Lu Huai's eyes lit up, and he clenched his fist, slamming it on the table, causing the tea on the table to spill.
He pointed to the stables not far away and shouted, "Bring the wicked creature here!"
The men under him were startled when they saw the man's angry eyes.
They immediately brought Lu Er up from the stable.
Su Jingge looked at the person; his hair was disheveled, and his clothes were covered in marks from being whipped.
Their hands and feet were tied.
He looked extremely disheveled.
"What is this?" she asked.
"Hmph! I've beaten this brat and locked him in the stable. If he can't quit gambling, he'll never leave the stable for the rest of his life. He'll be tied up for good!"
Su Jingge could understand his feelings, but she still said, "This, this is wrong to imprison people."
"Do you know who saved you? It was Assistant Manager Su. If it weren't for her winning back the land deed, my Lu family would not exist today! You wretched child, why don't you thank her!"
Lu Er was so frightened that he trembled all over, knelt on the ground, cowering, looking extremely pitiful.
He looked at Assistant Manager Su, then kowtowed and cried, "Thank you, Assistant Manager Su, for saving me! Thank you, Assistant Manager Su, for saving me! Thank you—"
His forehead was scraped open.
She said, "Alright, alright, actually you should thank your brother more." Su Jingge looked at Lu Huai, "Your younger brother is still young, perhaps he was deceived and picked up bad habits, but I heard that your younger brother has an engineering background, and he can be very accurate in engineering matters. He can recognize the building materials at a glance. I heard that the design of the Drum Tower in the west was drawn by your younger brother, and he is a good material."
"With proper training, he will surely become a great talent in the future."
Su Jingge is right. Many of these farm tools were designed and drawn by Lu Er. His once proud younger brother has become like this.
Lu Huai sighed deeply: "After my parents passed away, I was busy with the horse stables and neglected to discipline Lu Er. No matter how smart he is, if he doesn't follow the right path, he's a useless talent!"
"Now everyone knows he's a compulsive gambler. Who would want him? His future is uncertain; he's ruining his own career! Alas!"
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became; the more he talked, the angrier he got. He grabbed the black riding whip hanging on the wooden post and was about to lash out at someone.
Lu Er knelt down and hid from Su Jingge, crying, "Brother, I really won't gamble anymore. I'll listen to you. Please give me another chance."
Su Jingge stood up to protect him: "Brother Lu, calm down. Your brother is weak and can't withstand your beating."
"I'd rather he be crippled than killed, and I'll take care of him for the rest of my life!"
"Brother Lu, calm down, calm down," Su Jingge advised.
Lu Huai's eyes were filled with tears. He appeared unmoved on the surface, but his hands were trembling with heartache.
He looked very sad and disappointed.
Su Jingge pondered that this person was a talented individual; in her time, he would have been considered a construction engineer!
If this person can be used by her, it will take the construction to a new level.
Su Jingge looked at Lu Huai and said, "Brother Lu, I do lack such a talent. I think your brother is truly repentant, and now is the time to use someone. Why don't you hand your brother over to me and let him work under me?"
Upon hearing this, Lu Huai was shocked and thought he had misheard: "Assistant Su, you're not joking, are you? You really want to take this wretched child in?"
Su Jingge smiled and said, "Look, I am now the assistant manager of the county. In the future, I will be busy repairing the city. I will be busy repairing the ground. The width, length, and various sizes of the ground need manpower for measurement and calculation. If your brother can work under me, he will be able to do the work of ten people. So, how about entrusting your brother to me?"
Lu Huai's eyes reddened, and he immediately clasped his hands and bowed deeply: "I will never forget your great kindness to my Lu family!"
"You're too kind; you've helped me too." She looked at Lu Er. "Would you be willing to join forces with me?"
Lu Er never expected that Su Jingge would appear like a ray of light in his life.
He nodded vigorously: "I do, I do!"
In the blink of an eye, Lu Er was given a fresh start.
Su Jingge then explained the subsequent tasks to Lu Huai one by one.
"You need to return the farming tools I just told you to me within a month. As for the raw materials, just keep them for as long as you can. Brother Lu, there's no need to rush. I'll find a way to mine the ore."
Lu Huai cupped his hands in greeting: "I accept your command!"
By this time, Lu Er had finished washing up and changed into a clean set of clothes.
The man wore a light blue robe, had a tall and slender figure, and his black hair fell to his shoulders. In the sunlight, his eyebrows and eyes were handsome, and two strands of hair fell naturally in front of his forehead. His eyes were bright and innocent, and his skin was fair. There was a bloody mark on his forehead where his brother had hit him.
It stood there obediently, like a gentle little puppy.
“From now on, Assistant Manager Su will be your master. You must obey her every word. Do you understand?” Lu Huai said sharply.
Su Jingge smiled and said, "Brother Lu, there's no need to be so formal." She looked at Lu Er and said, "Just call me sister from now on."
He made a gesture of respect with his hands clasped, and was about to kneel when Su Jingge interrupted him: "No need to kneel, really no need to kneel."
The man looked shy, but spoke in a gentle voice: "Greetings, Sister Su."
"In that case, from now on you will treat Assistant Manager Su as your own sister. Her words are my words. If you dare to disobey, you will be considered disobedient. Do you understand?"
Lu Er nodded slightly: "I've got it."
Lu Er was carrying a toolbox.
The two mounted their horses.
At this moment, Lu Huai handed Su Jingge a black whip. The whip gleamed in the sunlight, making people feel frightened.
"Assistant Su, take this tiger-tail whip. A single lash can tear a horse's skin and flesh. If it hits a person, a lash is like having tendons and bones torn apart. If your wicked child develops bad habits again in the future, just whip him to death without reporting back to me!"
Su Jingge swallowed.
"Alright."
Even though it's not used, just looking at it is enough to intimidate people.
