Chapter 156 The Truth Emerges
"You damned woman! You were an undercover agent!"
Wang Zhiqiang's roar was broken. Despite feeling weak all over and having a stomachache, he still stared intently at Su Yingxue, as if he wanted to devour her alive.
He staggered forward, a gleaming short knife suddenly appearing in his hand—his weapon for self-defense, hidden at his waist.
"Run!"
Xiao Sui shoved Su Yingxue toward the stairwell, then pulled out a police retractable baton hidden in his sleeve and stood in front of Wang Zhiqiang.
As an undercover agent who had been lying low for many years, he was well prepared to confront the drug dealers head-on. However, the effects of the drug slowed his movements, and he was slashed on the arm by Wang Zhiqiang's knife as soon as they made contact, his sleeve instantly stained with blood.
"Little Sui!"
Su Yingxue exclaimed in surprise, but had no time to turn around. She knew she couldn't be a burden to Xiao Sui, and she couldn't let the ledger she had obtained fall into Wang Zhiqiang's hands.
She noticed that the door to the storage room next door was not closed, and that it was filled with a lot of kitchen utensils and ingredients. She immediately slipped inside and grabbed an iron pot from the side.
Wang Zhiqiang shook off Xiao Sui and chased after Su Yingxue like a madman. At this moment, he had only one thought in his mind: kill this woman, take back the account book, and then escape in the chaos.
He stormed into the storage room and immediately spotted Su Yingxue huddled in the corner. His eyes were as fierce as a wounded wild beast's: "Hand over the ledgers! I'll make sure you die a quick death!"
Su Yingxue clutched the ledger tightly to her chest, her palms sweating profusely. She knew she was no match for Wang Zhiqiang.
Even though the effects of the drug had taken hold and his mobility was greatly reduced, his years of experience in the underworld had made his fighting instincts still terrifying.
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down, and quickly scanned the surrounding kitchen utensils—iron pot, cleaver, rolling pin, and chili powder and Sichuan peppercorn powder piled in the corner.
You want the ledger? Dream on!
Su Yingxue deliberately provoked him, while quietly moving closer to the shelf where the seasonings were stored.
Wang Zhiqiang roared and charged forward, brandishing his short sword. Though his steps were unsteady, his sword strikes remained sharp, aimed directly at Su Yingxue's chest.
Su Yingxue was prepared and suddenly dodged to the side, raising the iron pot in her hand at the same time.
With a loud thud, it struck Wang Zhiqiang's wrist precisely.
"ah!"
Wang Zhiqiang winced in pain, nearly dropping the dagger. He clutched his wrist and took two steps back, his eyes growing even fiercer.
The dizziness and stomach pain caused by the drug gradually eroded his rationality, and his actions became more violent. He lunged again without regard for anything else, the glint of the knife blindingly bright under the stark emergency lights.
Su Yingxue dodged while searching for an opportunity to counterattack. The storage room was cramped, making it difficult for Wang Zhiqiang to wield his broadsword; instead, it became a hindrance.
Using her agility, Su Yingxue moved nimbly between the shelves, occasionally using the iron pot to deflect Wang Zhiqiang's attacks.
The iron pot clanged as it was chopped, sparks flying everywhere, and each impact made Su Yingxue's arm go numb.
"You bitch, stop hiding!"
Wang Zhiqiang was panting heavily, his forehead covered in cold sweat, suffering from both the pain of the medication taking effect and the exhaustion from the fight.
His vision became increasingly blurry, his steps became more and more unsteady, and his slashes lost their aim.
Su Yingxue knew she couldn't delay any longer and had to subdue him as soon as possible. She seized an opportunity when Wang Zhiqiang lunged at her again.
Suddenly, she ducked to avoid his knife, and at the same time, she stretched out her foot and tripped him on the leg.
Wang Zhiqiang was already unsteady on his feet, and when he was tripped like that, he immediately lost his balance and fell forward.
Just as he was about to fall to the ground, Su Yingxue grabbed a bag of chili powder from the shelf, ripped open the packaging, and threw it hard at Wang Zhiqiang's face!
"Achoo! My eyes!"
The chili powder instantly blinded Wang Zhiqiang, and the pungent irritation made him scream in pain. He instinctively rubbed his eyes with both hands, and the short knife clattered to the ground.
Seizing this excellent opportunity, Su Yingxue lifted the heavy iron pot with both hands and, with all her might, slammed it down hard on Wang Zhiqiang's back!
"Thump—"
With a muffled thud, Wang Zhiqiang groaned and collapsed limply to the ground. He struggled a few times but then became still, only twitching occasionally, clearly having been knocked unconscious.
Su Yingxue breathed a sigh of relief, slumped to the ground, panting heavily. Her arms ached so much she could barely lift them, and cold sweat trickled down her face, dripping onto the dusty floor.
Just as she was about to get up, she heard hurried footsteps outside the storage room, along with Xiao Sui's voice calling out, "Sister Xiao Su, are you alright?"
Su Yingxue stood up, holding onto the shelf, and opened the door to the storage room. She saw Xiao Sui leaning against the wall in the corridor, his face pale and his arm still bleeding.
"I'm fine, but I knocked Wang Zhiqiang unconscious." She quickly went over to check on Xiao Sui's wounds.
"Leave me alone."
Xiao Sui waved his hand and looked warily down the stairs.
"Xiao Wang ran away! He took advantage of the chaos and ran towards the back door. We have to stop him; he knows a lot about the inside story of the deal!"
Su Yingxue looked in the direction he pointed and saw a familiar figure staggering towards the back door; it was Xiao Wang.
He was clearly also affected by the drug's effects; he staggered as he ran, and occasionally clutched his stomach, bent over, and vomited, but his will to survive drove him to push forward with all his might.
"I'll go after them!"
Su Yingxue immediately gave chase. She knew that Xiao Wang, as Wang Zhiqiang's right-hand man, must have been involved in a lot of drug trafficking activities, and catching him was crucial for the subsequent trial of the case.
Lin Xiaoman, covered in sweat, finally rushed out and blocked Su Yingxue!
"Don't worry. I'm here. You get some rest."
Su Yingxue hurried along the corridor, watching the two. Along the way, drug dealers who had been subdued by the police were escorted by officers.
Weapons, cash, and various other items were scattered on the ground, and the air was filled with the nauseating smells of gunpowder, blood, and rotting food.
Although Xiao Wang wasn't fast, he was very familiar with the layout of the villa and made his way to the back door through a maze of turns.
"Xiao Wang, stop right there!"
Lin Xiaoman shouted and quickened her pace.
Xiao Wang turned around and saw Lin Xiaoman chasing after him. He was terrified and ran even faster, muttering, "Don't chase me! I don't know anything! Wang Zhiqiang forced me to do this!"
Lin Xiaoman sneered; she wouldn't believe his nonsense. Just as Xiao Wang was about to run to the back door, Lin Xiaoman had a sudden inspiration and noticed a roll of thick hemp rope used for bundling goods on the nearby shelf.
She immediately ran over, grabbed one end of the rope, and swung it at Xiao Wang's leg.
"Smack!"
The rope precisely wrapped around Xiao Wang's ankle. Lin Xiaoman pulled hard, and Xiao Wang lost his balance, falling flat on his face with a "thud," his face hitting the cold floor, making him grimace in pain.
